Need to do better distinguishing swiping from touching

When swiping from screen to screen, if the current screen is full of icons, it is very hard to avoid catching an icon while swiping, and this stops the swipe from taking place. Improved recognition of finger motion would help distinguish a swipe from a touch.

  • Agreed. Swiping is both too slow (delayed response) and too unreliable.

  • Agreed, i now swipe the bottom of the screen where the dots are

This often doesn't work for me -- I have a device where I see the controls of that device on the first page. The icons literally go all the way to the top to to the bottom, being very close to the dots at the bottom. So I have the same predicament.

I asked if we could make icons smaller or bigger -- would be helpful, along with rearranging the icons to our choice

  • Thank you all for reporting that one. We are already working on this since we do fully agree that there is room for improvement concerning the swiping in between pages.

    • Patrick Related to this exact problem -- can NEEO eventually add the following features:

1.) Can we rearrange the placement of the icons of the "Controls" of a device? Much like how icons on iphone/android screens can be held down and then dragged to a different location (Except you would do this on the NEEO app)

2.) Can we change the order of the shortcuts / control pages?

3.) Can the size of the icons be changed?
Use Case: it takes me like 4 presses (because of my big fingers) to hit the forward button when using my DVR. Then another 4 presses to hit the play button, so I always have to rewind and repeat the process to get to the proper stopping point. I think if the icons could be made bigger (end user's option), then that would help, and also be visually clearer!

      Thanks!

    • ClearHeatVision , expanding on your idea, I think it would be good if we can populate each page with exactly the controls we choose for that page, so we can group controls together if they are frequently used together. And a little more thought into the default groupings would be good; for instance, there are probably 8 to 10 controls on a DVR that are used more frequently than any others, and those should be grouped on the first page.

We are going in the direction you are hoping for in general, you sure can understand that this will be a progress and not be coming all at once.

One of the first features we see happening will be the sorting of the shortcuts/recipe pages, this should also include hiding them if you don't need them at all. This will already allow a lot of customization so that NEEO will fit your needs. If you then only make use of shorcuts and widgets you can already influence there sorting.

Concerning the difficulties to hit the right buttons, we think a quick fix could be to increase the area on which the click is recognized without having to change the UI or implementing new features. But we do like your idea in general.

We are very careful with new features since we want to implement everything in a way so that advanced and average users are both completely comfortable. Meaning we want to give a lot of possibilities to everybody who wants to dive into customizing, but we don't want other users to have to mess with hundreds of different settings. For exactly this reason we fully agree that the auto-populated pages can be improved much further.

    • Patrick regarding your last paragraph -- do you think NEEO would have an "advanced" option mode that allows advanced users access to this?

I agree that there will be the majority of users who want it to be as simple as possible. But if these other modifications that we mentioned in some sort of "advanced" mode with a warning message, then I think we can all be happy.

Looking forward to these future updates!

ClearHeatVision I can not yet tell you how exactly how and when this will be integrated. I need to check that with the team. I do not do the UI design myself 😉

    • Patrick The point of the thread is already well understood -- but just to emphasize some more 😂...

      See this use case:

I have a recipe for a Stereo (Sony STR-DH130). The final step of that recipe is to "show controls"

The attached picture shows how long all the controls are. Some of them I hardly need and would like to manually remove, but worse, is that it is too long a list for me to swipe properly. I think this is the best use case to demonstrate the importance of this thread to the software team.

      Thanks =)

ClearHeatVision You are right. I have assigned that issue to the developer team.

    • Patrick any progress on this? I haven't heard anything in several weeks.

  • And sometimes, it even swipes 2 screens when making a swipe. It is really annoying. I hope the dev team will find a solution to make it better.

I also notice that with a single swipe, the remote scrolls 2 pages further.
