Initial Impressions
We want to know how your very first experience is after getting your NEEO, therefore we have created this topic to share your initial impressions about NEEO. We are interested in everything, including the box for shipping, the packaging itself, the instructions, the NEEO remote, the NEEO brain, the IR extender, the Apps, the UI, the initial setup, everything! We even care about the cables and power adapters.
Shout out what you feel like telling us, post images of what you want to show us 👍

I received my Neeo a few hours ago and was ecstatic over the un-boxing experience. I have opened many beautiful packages over the years so I guess it takes a lot to impress me. However, Neeo did just that. I was very impressed!! (Giggling like a silly child!)
To me that's a good start and I immediately pictured the expression on the faces of all those nay-sayers who were negative on the comments section, going through this same un-boxing experience then deeply regretting what they said!

Raphael NEEO and the NEEO team: Today I received the NEEO. With the delivery scheduled during day time and knowing I would not be at home, I had the delivery rerouted to my office. This worked out well and I was able to take it home. Now I can start playing with it.
Others have already commented on the unboxing experience and there is little else to add to it other than wow.
I do want to thank you for the personalized note included with the NEEO. I very much appreciated it.

Hi,
My initial impressions.
Shipping box - excellent
postal address - correct
Fedex Tracking - accurate
Fees to pay - none
Damage to outer box - none
Unboxing experience
Cutting my thumbnail into the plastic film was scary and exciting !
Didn't want to hurt the precious box !
Apple might have had a little pull tab, but it was fine.Initial setup, very smooth and intuitive.
Cables, very premium feel, love the braided USB cables.
The remote itself looks and feels really great and according to my children looks very modern, not like those old chunky Pronto remotes !!
The charging base was surprisingly heavy and I can see that it will happily stay put with the remote plugged into it.
Placing the remote into the charging doc was perfect first time, but the beep confirmation once it had power make it pretty clear when it is docked successfully.
I plugged in and placed the IR extender before even connecting the power, would it have prompted me to connect it if I hadn't ?
Sonos configured quite easily, I don't appear to be able to access Napster through it yet?
Easily added steps to a SONOS recipe to switch on my amp, it was a SONOS Connect:AMP, so perhaps it could have figured out that it would be connected through the AMP and would use the AMP volume controls and need to power on AMP etc.
Like the ! On my BluRay device which then prompted me for connection info about which source and how it was connected, very intuitive to use !
Will post more later !

Initial reactions, I love the packaging! I love that everything has its spot in the box. My remote had a full charge and the screen looks amazing! The cable ties are a bonus, as well as the braided cables, they look and feel great.
Setup was a breeze with my Android phone, got my TV, Xbox One, and TiVo setup. Working now to shift my Z Wave controller.

My NEEO arrived.
No problems with the shipping. It arrived in good conditions.
Unboxing was great, like the others already wrote. The heavy charging dock is great. And also the quality of the USB cables. And the USB cables are long enough from the bookshelf to the power socket on the floor. The Power adapters for Germany are included.
Now its time to get it run.

FINALLY I GOT MY NEEO!
It was a bit hassle with customs and Fedex delayed delivery for couple days + over weekend but I got my package today. 😍
If I have to describe unboxing experience with one word, it would be GLORIOUS!
Unboxing
+ I don't remember when was the last time i got so excited just opening black box.
+ Personal card was even more magnificent than I hoped!
+ Box drawers are brilliant. Never seen implementation like this before
+ Never seen this quality cables embedded with electronics, very nice!
+ Cables are longer than normally, more flexibility to device placement!
- Protecting film over the remote screen + brain + docking station had some bubblesRemote
+ This is thinner than predicted, feels very nice in hand!
+ Weight is perfect, aluminium top & plastic bottom feels very well joined together. Feels very solid.
+ Display resolution is better than I have seen on any remote
+ Overall feeling is impressed when holding this remote!
Charging dock
+ HOLY CRAP this is heavy! Is there lead inside??? (only positive feeling)
+ Magnetic touch is brilliant
+ Beeping sound is clever...
Brain
+ This is gorgeous peace of design! I'm sure that many consumers could be fooled that this new Apple product.
+ Shiny top cover is amazing.
+ Mysterious switch hidden under top cover? ("click" if neeo-logo is pressed)
- How to turn off the white led, still shining after power off recipe...? Quite bright in the night...
Initial setup
- Was suprised that setup needed to download Neeo app to get brain up and running. Is there a option in the future to use remote for initial setup?
+ After Neeo app installed (IOS) everything went smoothly. Guide pictures and pages are informational and clear.
+ It is very easy to add new devices...
+ Got my Pioneer amplifier and Apple TV to work like a charm, can't wait to get rest of my equipment to work as well :)
Oh my... it turned out to be quite long post. Sorry! 😀 -
i know I am a little late in posting my first impression but even 4 days later i still cannot believe the attention to detail and simplicity that has gone in to the packaging and design. unpacking the black box out of the initial brown package was a treat and a tease. Every layer of foam i went through grew my anticipation. i love the sleek look and the "drawer" design that was smart for all the cables. only flaw i have encountered with the physical product was a slight cut in the plastic of the screen protector. i peeled the plastic back to see if the actual screen of the remote was affected in any way and it was not. i assume this happened due to a bubble and packaging of the remote into the box. i have posted the picture to this response. The weight and feel of the remote in your hand makes it feel like its meant to be there. not too bulky, comfortable to hold and even with the slender body it doesn't seem to want to slip out accidentally.

Overall impression is good. Remote feels great and set up was pretty easy. Tactile feel of everything is superb. But for my particular set up, having some issues and noticing some bugs. Existing set up involves TV mounted to wall with an IR extender at the bottom of the TV that then relays IR commands to the rest of the AV equipment on the other side of the wall. Currently using a Harmony which of course broadcasts the IR signals directly from the remote itself. i can't seem to find a location in the main room to place the brain where it is sufficiently discreet and can get a good line of site to the existing IR extender. If I place the brain next to the other equipment, then it can't control my TV, as I don't have a blaster on the TV from the IR extender. Was previously relying on Harmony remote directly for that. I hope I can find a way to make it all work. Would've been great to include an IR transmitter in the primary remote itself rather than only relying on the brain.
The other bug I noticed is that when I add the "mode movie" shortcut for my Denon receiver, it seems to cycle through 4 different modes every time I hit it, instead of just bringing up the mode menu. So will need to play with that a bit as well.

Jeremy Porter Thanks a lot for the feedback.
I am not sure I am imagining your setup correctly, maybe some images would help me with that. So far we have managed to find a position where everything was working for every single setup we have tried, also for our beta testers.
Wouldn't it be an option to have the NEEO Brain in the position where you can control you equipment and then use our included additional IR emitter to make sure you can control the TV too?
The last bug you are describing sounds like an issue with the IR command itself. I will put our device driver team on the case, I am sure they can fix that one. Andy will let you know once this can be tested again. Could you tell me which exact device you have added to NEEO? Was it exactly the one you own?

You'll see the TV hanging on the wall. It's on a mount that allows it to extend down and away from the wall. You'll see the existing IR relay/extended hanging down facing out toward the room at the bottom of the tv.
The IR extender is then wired through the wall through a tube down to a corner of the room behind this wall where it then connects to the transmitter/receiver relay that then carries the IR signals to the rest of the equipment in that room.
Because the TV and IR receiver face out toward the room, the original IR signal needs to emit toward the face of the TV and the IR receiver and ideally control the TV whether the TV is in the up or down position.
If the brain is behind the wall, the IR extender of the brain would need to extend through the wall and then be in a position to always relay to the front of the TV and IR receiver.
The back of the viewing room is a sliding glass door. So if the NEEO IR extender is placed right next to the existing IR receiver, it will relay through the receiver but I can't get it to turn the TV on or off. I don't think they are bouncing off the walls in a way, or going out the glass door, such that they are returning to the TV. Make sense?
It will just be difficult to get the NEEO IR extender/emitter to communicate with both the TV and IR receiver at the same time, while also allowing the TV to go up or down. The existing Harmony works well, as I stated, because the remote itself is an emitter and sitting on the couch allows for clear access to both the TV and receiver.
I have a subwoofer down to the right of the TV pictures against the wall. Placing the brain there, it just seems the IR signal doesn't have a clear enough line of site to the receiver on the TV to control things reliably.
On the receiver issue, yes, I added the specific receiver. But there were several options (different zones for example) for my receiver, the Denon AVR 3312 CI. So I thought I had selected the right one.
Don't mean to take up all your time, but you asked... :-)
Thanks!

My initial impression is overall very positive; the packaging is great, and the product itself feels super high end. Setup process was indeed close to effortless (at least in my case); I was adding devices within 10 minutes. Speaking of which, I love being able to add devices through the app; my present remote is a Harmony One, and changing anything is a giant pain.
The only big missing piece for me right now is IR learning - I have an Outlaw RR2150 receiver which the Neeo doesn't currently support, so my options for activities I can control in my home theater setup are pretty limited until I can use it. -
My two NEEO remotes arrived today. Easily the best Kickstarter product fulfillment I have ever received, and I have been fortunate to have almost entirely positive experiences. Unboxing and quality of packaging is very much an Apple-esque experience. Setup pretty smooth. Set up my LG 77, Emotiva XMC-1, AppleTV 4, Amazon Fire, Opportunity-based UDP-205, and DirecTV with few problems, all in under a half-hour. Successful firmware updates on both the remote and the brain required more than one reboot, but that's small stuff. [I have discovered one small problem that I hope can be fixed soon and I have posted a separate topic for it. 4k on the Emotiva XMC-1 is hard-wired to HDMI input 8, and the NEEO command set for the XMC-1 does not currently include an HDMI input 8.]

Unfortunately not ready for prime time.
After waiting years after the end of the kickstarter project, my Neeo finally arrived yesterday. Firstly the good. The packaging, cables, remote - all of the hardware was excellent. Now the bad. With my setup, the missing stuff includes a lack of working stop command for either Apple TV or Xfinity X1 (both I would have thought, prime devices). The inability to access a number of inputs on my Pioneer VSX-52 receiver including most annoyingly HDMI2. As a result of the above I had to try to manually reprogram the recipes which in the end resulted in the brain losing the plot and me having to reset everything and start again. Then I have the problem of the remote flagging 'please wait' usually during fast forward of the ads on the Xfinity. By the time that the message goes away and I can control my system again, I have to rewind back to where I wanted to be. During programming often the recipes froze and I had to close and reopen the app to get around this. I like (not love, but like) my Neeo and I will wait for firmware updates to make it really useable but in the meantime I can only use it alongside my Harmony One, not instead of. A number of the promised features (fingerprint identification, control of stuff like Nest thermostats etc) is also not present yet. I would count myself as disappointed but not yet ready to give up......

So far, I am disappointed with my Neeo remote. After backing it then waiting for nearly 3 years I was excited to unpack and set it up. After being walked through a pretty standard "search for device" process that I have done countless times with other "universal" remotes I was immediately met with frustration as every single one of my devices are evidently "dumb devices".
My home is far from being fully automated so my expectations aren't what I would consider unreasonable. My expectations were to be able to program recipes that would turn my TV on and off, control my reciever/tuner (which serves as the central hub of the inputs/outputs of my home viewing entertainment), and (in the rare occurrence that I do not have my phone with me) adjust my Nest thermostat.
Now having used it for a few days I am unfortunately underwhelmed. I will be the first to concede that perhaps I am just missing the obvious which is why I am writing here.
I watched the backing video again and my remote does not recognize my hand, it does not pull up a list of movies or music (as demonstrated in the video), I have no clue how to setup parental controls, I have a device setup option for my mac mini but all I get is a power button icon once it is setup.
My expectations are the same as they were before. I would like the ability to control every device in my home. The standards of controlling my TV, Receiver, Apple TV, Mac Mini, and Nest systems would be wonderful. Additionally it would be awesome if I could control my Apple Airport Expresses I have setup in each room of my house for music, or at least the music that is being streamed to them.
If anyone out there in Planet Neeo land can educate or assist me in this, I would greatly appreciate it. So far my experience with Neeo has been that is NOT "insanely easy to setup" and it is not the "Ultimate Universal Remote"... I now have 4 remotes, a bluetooth keyboard, and a mouse on my coffee table instead of 3 remotes...
Thanks for reading my frustrated rant.

I was impressed with the unboxing, but that's where my disappointment began. Any one else disappointed? It seems the more I use it (try to use it), the more frustrated I get. My setup looks almost exactly like the little cartoon setup that shows the brain on the cabinet with the signal flowing out the back. It's the one that talks about where to place the brain. I have my DirecTV box on one shelf and my AV receiver on another (which isn't in the device database btw), so when I place the brain on the top of the cabinet, it will only control the TV. Why doesn't the remote itself send out IR? That would solve my problem. Am I supposed to place the brain on the floor in the middle of the room? Also, I have my video signal going to my tv with HDMI, but my audio goes to my receiver with a digital cable. The app doesn't ask about any audio even though I told it I am using a receiver, so my tv will change input when I switch videos sources but my receiver stays on the same input...
