Recipes Crashing? And control mapping bugs?

I've been using my NEEO since the initial batch shipped out with no major problems, and have been very pleased with it.

Recently, however, I've had some quirky things, just over the past week or two.

  • It seems that like AppleTV recipe is crashing, or something similar. I'll run the recipe, everything will turn on, correct inputs, etc., but then the AppleTV controls will not show up in my remote, and the recipe is not listed as "running" at the top of the screen. If I run it again, everything works as expected.
  • Unless, it's one of the few times where the hard buttons seem to be mapped incorrectly, and trying to navigate through the AppleTV home menu results in the volume changing and the screen saver coming up and going away, as if the hard buttons are mapped incorrectly.
  • The other issue is that, sometimes I'll fire things up in the theater (where the NEEO is located) with my phone, before I go downstairs. When I get downstairs, the physical remote is not synced with what recipes are running, so I have to run them again to get control.

Any other similar experiences?

  • Travis Ballstadt First of all, you schould check if the remote and the Brain are on the same Firmware Version. Also you can try out a restart of the Brain, just pull the power for 1 minute.

Also can you check what your NEEO Hostname is and provide is as Information here? So the Team behind NEEO is able to check the Logs, what has happened.

When you say your remote is out of sync, does it mean it is so directly after pickup? is it laying around or docked, when not in use? Did you try to wait a few moments? are there one or two Indicators on the top right corner? The Recipe active is pushed to the remote via NEEO Link (this is the left indicator on the top bar). Currently it is used as main route to send Updates to the Remote, regardless if this is switched on or off in the Menu. Also it is better when it's swichted off, because there are issues, when the Remote priorice the communication to NEEO Link.

I will pull in Jeff and Ingrid so they are aware of this issues.

Do you have any further information or can you explain it, if known? I can not understand where log files are stored and how NEEO evaluates them. Furthermore, it is incomprehensible to me that apparently NEEO has a possibility to see any log, but as a user, it seems virtually impossible to do any debugging or somehow determine why the remote produces an error. If there is a log file, why is not it also possible for users to see this since this is my data and I also like to know why the remote produces any errors.

    • Fonzo the Brain transfers the log files to neeo. That's stated in the user agreement.

The way a user can see them is not known by myself. I don't can tell anything if this is possible or not. Sniffing of network traffic can be a way but I think the common log files are encrypted so I don't think that this will help.

  • Hi  Travis Ballstadt Thank you for posting this. Sounds very strange and I can say this is the first time I hear about something like this. Can you please provide me with your NEEO hostname? This can be found in the about section of the app.

I also suggest disconnecting the NEEO Brain from power for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in to see if this helps with that issue.

Also, how often have you experienced this over the last 2 weeks?

    Thanks,

  • It’s now happening constantly.

It seems that, instead of the remote sending misinformation, it’s just constantly, but slowly, sending random commands. I’m sitting here now typing this, and the remote has navigated into a special features menu of this disc (on the Oppo now, not just AppleTV) and muted/Unmuted several times.

I just unplugged the power to the brain for the last two hours to keep it from turning off the movie we were watching, and it is still exhibiting the same behavior when I plugged it back in

    Hostname: NEEO-be19b00d

  • A hard reset of the remote seems to have corrected the problems for now, but I’m concerned that this could return.

Travis Ballstadt Thank you for letting me know a reset has solved this. I will report this to our dev team so they can further investigate. Please let me know if this continues to be an issue. Did you by any chance reboot your NEEO Brain too?

      Thanks,

    • Jeff I did. I unplugged the brain first, and we watched an entire movie while it was unplugged (can't watch a movie with random signals muting and skipping). When I plugged it back in, the behaviors started up again, so I searched for how to restart the remote.

Travis Ballstadt Thanks for the info. Do keep me posted if these behaviors continue.
