I would love to be able to trigger macros on the brain with my voice...

  • Ideally in a way that is easy to remember and natural. Too many Skills seem to be something along the lines of "Alexa, tell SomeDevice to notify Room to execute ScriptTurnOn". By the time I remember all of that -- or instruct my house guests-- I might as well have just flipped the switch myself.

    • Travis Sitzlar A proof of concept integration is already available for beta testers. More to come -- but unfortunately I cannot share the details yet..

    • Raphael This is quite exciting news, even without knowing details. Can't wait to learn more! Thanks for letting us know.

    • Raphael things have been quiet recently with the standard NEEO. What’s happening with Alexa integration? It doesn’t work at all with my NEEO. It would be great to get this sorted especially as a competitor is focusing quite strongly on this.

  • You can do this with IFTTT right now in combination with the Maker Webhooks ( https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks ) and the Neeo API. I'm able to go "Alexa Trigger Cable" which triggers my cable recipe. I mentioned this in the IFTTT thread, but you'd need to do some basic port forwarding on your router and have a static ip/dynamic hostname service.

  • I was thinking just now about the other direction.  I.E. I have the remote in my hand and it would be nice to say the time when I turn on the TV.  Or perhaps have a button/recipe which tells the Echo to say the weather.

  • Soo much yes! There are so many times Alexa doesn't process the audio correctly, would be great to automate simple things like getting weather, calling an Uber, playing Spotify, etc.

  • I have a "smart home" here with KNX and just start implementing Alexa/Amazon Echo to "voice command" the light and other stuff, works good so far, but needs a little bit fine tuning. This all works via a Skill and a Gira Homeserver. There the Skill uses Http Requests via the Gira Homeserver Webapplication to trigger actions.

BUT there is still a big gap between Alexa/Amazon Echo and all of the audio/video stuff, there are only a few implementations (as example VU+ with VTI Image, or Engima Boxes) and a lot of stuff you can not voice control. I allready thought about - this would be a great thing if a intelligent "universal Remote Control" would work as a "bridge" between Alexa and all the other electronics. This should be easy to implement in a Skill but then Neeo needs a internet access and a way to trigger Commands or Macros on the Brain.

Best way would be one Alexa Skill for the remote control with "general" voice commands, which then should trigger via a Neeo Account actions like volume up / down, switch channel, power on/off and the Neeo Base send this then to the receiver/TV/Sat/...  There are allready Skills out ther, but seems not to work very well.

But in this way it also should be possible to trigger Macros on the brain. So you can program the universal control (Neeo) for controling exact your hardware and then use the voice commands only to this one universal control / Brain which works as "bridge", the webapplication then could give the user the possiblity to give own names to the Voicecommand for Alexa and the triggered action/Macro.

I think Alexa will not replace all remotes, but if this is implementet in NEEO there is only the need for one control /Brain and you would get the voice control additional with a simple skill.

  • Works now with Alexa, check your smart home devices in the Alexa app

  • The recipes shows up as WeMo Switches. Interesting.

    • Mikkel Jensen Yes, this is a basic implementation of a " can it be used" actually i find them really nice. also this is not a full working together Brain and Alexa but it is truely nice to have.

    • Markus Mahr Yes, it works really well, despite the "execute-all-bug" mentioned.

    • Mikkel Jensen yeah, but I don't think that this is NEEOs fault. It has started, when Amazon released their new software. I hope, that someday, there is more then the basic implementation!

  • Hi,

How do i get the Neeo to work with Alexa? I found the Recipes from my Neeo Account in the alexa app under smart devices. If i click on any of them, it works, but how do i use VOICE COMMANDS to make them work?

    Thanks.

  • you can put them into a smart home group or just call them out by name without any programming.  If you have a recipe called "Roku", you can simply say "Alexa: Turn On Roku".  Give it a shot.  Groups will let you combine them with other smart home devices like lights.  I have a group called "Everything" which combines my Lutron RA2 All Off toggle (all lights in the house) and "Cable" recipe from Neeo; when I say "Alexa: Turn off Everything", my entire av system and lights turn off (only need one Neeo recipe in there, as long as the recipe contains the desired steps; for an example even if the Neeo recipe is not active, the macro will still run for the off state).

  • I see this as a way to negate the need for the NEEO to have a microphone. My TV on screen searches could be done by Alexa while other functions could be controlled by NEEO to get a higher degree of usability.
