Philips Hue Scene / Color control

Hi it would be great to see more advanced Philips Hue lighting controls. Power switching as well as dimming already works great.

Adding the ability to change scenes or select the colors would be even better.

Isn’t this possible?  Thought it was.

    • Alex B At ISE it was just possible to turn them on/off and to dim them. No scenes or colour selection implemented yet.

    • Kasper Broos I assume this is without using the Hue Bridge?

Do Hue bulbs directly controlled by the Neeo Brain.

If I have a Hue Bridge, is it possible to trigger the scenes that were created on the bridge?

      Not yet.

as far as I know you still need the bridge, and even with that you're not able to select scenes or colours from the start. But again, that was at ISE, i don't know the progress since then.

Do not have my Neeo yet, but scenes and a color wheel should be a default feature. But give it Some time.

  • sorry but this is ridiculous... home automation and a hue support without color and scenes...

i guess the remote should think about THAT

    • Patrick The colour usage of the Philips hue was disabled because it caused issues and faults. The Team behind the NEEO will for sure eliminate the Bugs and then have time to fix the other parts.

Markus Mahr thanks for the info.

every 0,99€ App on the Appstore can do that

PS: I´m a developer myself.. i know things are tricky sometimes but if i have to choose the 5 Top HomeAutomation devices by popularity, Phlipps Hue would surely be among them. one would expect these to be "Onboard"

      cheers

  • I really can't believe this! One of the main reasons for NEEO was that the HUE integration only can be better than with Harmony... only to find out that is not there... NoooooOOOooooOO!

  • Any updates on this? This feature will be warmly welcomed by a lot of users. Set different scenes for watching TV, listening to music etc.

  • This week I got my hue starter pack and was sadly disapointed by the integration of Neeo. I aspected more, at least scenes and color selection.

Happy to read that they are working on it, but I hope it won't take to long! So an info update about this topic would be nice.

  • IMO at least add a new widget type "colour wheel" button, for control RGBW and display feed back, then we developers can make NEEO control any RGBW smart bulbs! Example from Pinterest...

    • Steven Y Such a feature is the planned state, as Patrick and Raphael mentioned here and there. But it takes time to get it worked and implemented in the Software, consider that neeo actuall is a company with about 30-40 people employeed, they are not such fast as google or amazon.

  • Patrick Maybe it helps your team how the guys from SIIO has integrated the Hue colour in another home automation control system. They just use a slider to set the color:

About Scene / Animation and 3rd party apps like iconnectHue for starting Animation automaticly?

  • Question Patrick Its been many months since an official update on this which is surprising for the innovative market leading bulb. An update would lovely for all Im sure. But my question isn't that....

I am wondering just how viable it would be to specify Hue bulbs for every bulb/room in the project and use NEEO to control them along with a few hue remotes and maybe even some in-wall iPads running the NEEO app? (don't think the iPad actually has a native app yet?)

I can envisage NEEO being the bridge between the various smart home products without needing the full home automation suite of high end homes. This is an exciting prospect. However considering the time it's taking to get topics as huge as this to come to fruition it obviously raises concerns

  • I am new to this. Is this something that a third-party developer can implement using the SDK? I am planning on moving to this remote from Harmony mostly because I need flexibility of being able to program my own recipes. I have an extensive background in front-end software development.

    • Derrick  Currently the Colour changing is implemented via a single slider (shortcut page) but this is not the end solution.

You are not able to add screens or functions to NEEO through the SDK that are not yet available in the firmware. Therefor your request is not fullfilable at this state.

When the NEEO Team has build in a colour picker, and also make it available thorugh the sdk, then you are able to use it, but it needs to be available frist.

Markus Mahr Thanks for the info. I wonder if there are any plans in future firmware to allow third party screen customization, this would be awesome. I can see so much potential in this device.

  • I feel so cheated by Neeo. $400 should get me more than something that turns on a light and switches to Netflix. I shouldn't have to use my phone when I have Neeo.

    • Kendrick Kirk I may misunderstand your Post here, but you complain about that you need your Phone to setup the Remote? And then never require to use it?

What is the Issue you are facing? This remote is on the market to be used as Smart Remote to control AV Hardware and also Smart Home things. That's what the remote can do allready (YES there are still features missing and there is air for improvement).

A Setup only with the Remote would require a lot of changes and was also never mentioned somewhere, that's why i ask the above question.

    • Markus Mahr i think he’s referring to the fact that we currently can’t change the colour of our bulbs, or turn them on and off individually with the remote, and that we currently need our phone to do that if we want to.

      Reply Like
    • Kasper Broos but the color can be changed. You need to add the right widget and then only get a rgb slider (Yes it's not a perfectly designed solution) that is capable of changing the color.

Issue with multiple sliders / switches are known and track as a bug by the NEEO Team, therefor a fix will come. But as long as there is no new firmware, this is still open and you are right.

Markus Mahr You can still do more with every cheap App compared to NEEO like select scenes, change the color, you can use only one hue bridge etc.. The only think NEEO can do at the moment is switch Hue on/off and set the level, that is really not much for a 400 € remote. That's why many are eagerly waiting for the least basic things can be done with a firmware update. Otherwise, unfortunately, it is far from only one remote, namely NEEO to use, if I can only turn on the light and then put the remote aside and again used an app. This is not necessarily in the sense of how such a remote actually should be used namely as a complete control for a system like Hue.

Markus Mahr A simple slider in which I can not see which value is set or read the current color value is relatively useless so you really can not inspire an end customer for.

If you would at least get the color temperature displayed, that would perhaps be an alternative for a color picker, but that's really unimaginative of the NEEO team to put there a simple slider as a solution for color adjustment.

    • Fonzo I never said, that this is the (or a) solution. But it is possible to control the color. That's all I said.

Also I'm not very happy with the current implementation and fully understand that this is complained!

But I also have only put an question and an answere to the latest post here. But thanks all for the replys again.

    • Markus Mahr ah, I didn’t know, thanks for teaching me something new! And I for one don’t particularly care about the sliders for every different bulb, I was just trying to guess what the other guy meant. Anyway, great to hear they are still working on it!

    • Fonzo The cheaper apps are designed just to do only that! 😩 Now in the grand scheme of things you can imagine how much NEEO have to cater for. Given room to breath they will come of age. One major side effect people don't think about is "battery life"

How often do you charge your Remote? Is it just like your mobile phone? Now don't get me wrong, am addicted to automation and thus all my control happens automatically.

      How?

I use other automation servers including NEEO to do the magic effortlessly (THINK SCENES)

Example : when I press the main power button and at given set time of the day, the servers are notified by MQTT and they all set the house into a given state. I only pick up the Remote to change channel on TV or the volume. But even that said the volume or pause is controlled automatically when a call comes in!

Anyway that's the other side of the story.

      Eman.

Emmanuel Serebe I myself also used a home-automation system in combination with NEEO. Otherwise, the NEEO would not be used by the family and would have been banished by my wife long ago in the garbage or in the drawer. The colors and scenes are currently automatically switched on according to the time of day and the called NEEO recipe.

But that does not replace the simple comprehensible desire of my family to simply change the color over the NEEO. I do not know myself how to adjust with a slider exactly colors such as green, yellow or blue and therefore can not explain the less enthusiastic family members accordingly how to do that with NEEO.

Therefore, just have to wait and see that this is finally implemented by the NEEO team according to there own motto.
NEEO is built to make your technique simpler.

Markus Mahr Issues are known for months now. Fixes will come whenever NEEO is done with there PRO launch? Don't get me wrong the last update was almost 5 months ago. NEEO should be able to fix an issue in a couple of days, they are still a startup. Instead of launching a new product make you're first one work in a slightly decent matter.

    • Hanno-wybren Mook as I don't work for NEEO, I can't say how they prioritize the thinks. All I reply or say in my posts are written somewhere here at other posts or thoughts I have.

I use neeo since the launch and still I'm very happy with it. Yes there are issues that are not helpful, but I personally don't care about color changing or other things as I don't need them.

I have build an own driver for enigma2 boxes to get rid of the stupid device state when I want to, I still like the ability you get with the SDK. So everything is fine for me.

Markus Mahr don't get me wrong I like the hardware as well. But it kinda bothers me that the software part and the promise made aren't met at all. Offcourse I can see that for some people this is an awesome remote. For my self I don't own a lot of IR devices so it needed to become handy with zwave, scenes, Hue, Wifi and services like Spotify, Infuse/ Plex etc. But I do not like to hassle with APIs/ SDK etc. I just want it to work out of the box. And I didn't get such an experience.
