Change name and icon for a recipe

Hi

I use a settop box together with my TV. My recipe for watching TV has the name AND icon of my settop box.

Will it be possible (soon) to change the name and icon of a recipe?

Thanks in advance!

PS. I am aware, that I can change the name of my device, but it seems stupid, renaming my settop box to 'Watch TV'.

/Michael

  • Hi,  Michael Grønbech Larsen. Thanks for your feedback and your thoughts. I'm not sure if I got that right. Do I understand correctly that you like to separate the rename option? Are you using your set-top box in various recipes? In regards to change the icons, there is already a topic in the Idea Voting over here. Please vote for this feature, that we can see and set priority with the votes for future firmware updates. Thanks.

Basically, I would like to be able to rename both devices and recipies, as well as changing icons on recipies.

I don't use the settop box in multiple recipies, but I use my TV in three different reciepies. With the current setup, I have to call my TV device 'Netflix' as the only recipie that only uses the TV is one, that starts a Netflix app. I also have had to rename my settop box to 'Watch TV' and it is very unlogic and inflexible.

    • Michael Grønbech Larsen May I ask you, how did you wire this three different TV recipes? If you use your set-top box & your TV for watching TV and for watching Netflix, you can add your Set-top box once more. Then rename it to "Watch TV" and the second one to "Netflix". Or you can add any other source device, another set-top box or media players you don't actually have. Then just rename the recipes and adjust them according to your needs. Please let me know if that makes sense to you.

I am aware of the various 'workarounds', but it would so much better, if I could just rename and change icons as I see fit.

Ingrid I have the same issue as Michael.

I have renamed my devices to match the function of their recipes from my perspective.  My set top box is "Watch TV", my AVR is "Chromecast" and my TV is "Wii".  This is so what I see on the remote matches what I want to do when I have it in my hand.

However, when I am editing the recipe, I am no longer thinking about what I want to do when I grab the remote. I am thinking about what signals I want to send to what devices (among other things).  So, for instance, when I edit my Wii/TV recipe, I need to switch to a certain INPUT on my AVR and also on my TV.   I have to remember that my AVR is actually called "Chromecast".

A similar problem exists when I run a recipe. The extra fancy circle animation that outlines all the functions the recipe is performing is forced to report misleading information such as "Switching Wii to INPUT COMPONENT 1".  There is no Wii device (as far as NEEO knows), and anyway it certainly doesn't have an input called Component 1!

I could add a custom recipe, but that means I don't get the "Use Volume" option.

In my case, adding extra devices as a workaround isn't necessary, but anyway, I don't think that helps from the "unnecessary confusion" point of view.  NEEO let's us connect to devices, which we can then use in recipes.  Those 2 concepts (devices and recipes) can and should be de-coupled. In fact, they mostly are.  Just not their names!

In the end, this ability is probably a minor add-on to all the work coming down the pike that will gives us custom icons per recipe.  Fingers crossed anyway. :)

Ah, upon further reading, I see this is a well known issue already, and "add more devices" is the preferred workaround for recipe issues in general. https://planet.neeo.com/r/80k85y
