  • I thought this was already supported? I haven't been involved with the beta at all, just a regular backer, so maybe I missed something, or misinterpreted the original campaign?

Just to avoid any confusion: You can of course control any device right now which is supported by NEEO and able to run KODI, e.g. a NVidia Shield TV running KODI will allow you to use NEEO as a remote.

Native KODI support, meaning the ability to e.g. browse your library on NEEO's display is not yet supported. What you may be referring to is the Plex Demo NEEO has shown a few times. At least as far as I'm aware, there was no promise of a yet implemented native KODI support.

I wouldn't worry too much though, as it will only be a matter of time.

  • Niels de Klerk is your implementation available for people to use? I'd really love to use NEEO to control it. I'm a noob at programming though.

  • same here my Mediacenter is waiting to be controlled by Neeo...

    • Thomas Nielsen Andreas Kraeuchi There are multiple ways to control your mediacenter/kodi/HTPC installation already. A KODI driver is already made, please search the forms as there are multiple posts about it.

A way to control kodi by viewing a list with movies posters on the remote will probably take some time before this will be realized (don't expect it soonTM).

Just wanted to make sure you're not waiting for something that was possible since pre-beta.

  • This would definitely be one of the top key used features. Please add support for this.

  • Agree, it is insane that a remote that just cost nearly $500 AU does not support KODI out the box. I wouldn't be so upset if you had helpful instructions on how to add the github driver version but nope you just expect everyone to go become a master at programming. Come on Neeo team how is KODI not yet done ?

  • I think people have a right on be disappointed and even a little upset. Installing these drivers is not the same as native support. Native Kodi support was promised years ago. My $20 remote from China does a better job than me NEEO. My NEEO is so pretty and so powerful but it doesn't do what it is supposed to do. Disappointing.

    • Matthew Potter do you know of any remote having native Kodi support? I don’t think there is any. Nor does a 20 dollar remote. Kodi is placed on the roadmap and for me it can’t get here quick enough either.

A 20 dolar remote can control Kodi over iR and NEEO can do that as wel. Control over IP is allready possible but with the use of a driver.

  • Niels de Klerk i understand that my $20 remote doesn't have native kodI support but the point was that at this point it is equally as useful as my NEEO. When many of us backed this remote it was understood that Kodi would be on the map. I don't think we were under the impression that would 3-5 years.

I would merely like some kind of info on when we should expect this? Had work even started? Will it start?

I genuinely want NEEO to succeed and I hope all things that were promised (hand recognition) will be realised soon. Occasionally I can't help but vent my frustration as this NEEO could be so great but isn't yet.

  • Was KODI part of the original deliverables? I read through the campaign page and can not find a reference to it.

Paul Spee Yes it was a promised feature which was added to the kickstarter campaign as a stretch goal (which was reached easily). So if they add it as a streach goal and it is reached I can expect to have this feature as soon as the remote is on the market, not months/years later.

    • Beni there are more features not yet included. It’s not that NEEO is holding them back it’s because these are not coded yet or not ready for release.

Lately a lot of changes are being made in the core system (not directly noticeable on the outside) and the inclusion of top requested features. A well developed foundation will eventually help to include intergrations faster and more stable.

another thing to look at specifically is the SDK. Even for those who can’t code. The SDK is used by me and others to write intergrations and for everyone to use. More importantly, NEEO uses the SDK themselves to intergrate products. Looking at the SDK advancements thus gives a good view about the progression towards 3rd party integration.

I’m aware that running a raspberry pi, use Linux and install drivers is not going to work for everyone. This process could and in my honest opinion should be made more easy. But also that takes time.

Coding is very time consuming and I believe NEEO is constantly balancing between bug fixes, new features, core enhancements, SDK progression etc...

It may seem like slow progression, take a look at the release notes and you might notice the vast amount of changes.

I’m aware this comment doesn’t cancel out any disappointments tat anyone may have, hopefully it helps to see the advancements that are made.

      hope this helps.

I have no hurry with this integration but I can still be disappointed over it, as with many other integrations. But I agree with Niels that it is important to focus on making everything stable and future proof even though it is a pain to wait.
At the same time I am also worried that the slow progress might affect the success of NEEO and its future.
Right now I would be happy if basic customizations are developed. I am sick of tired of having to lift my NEEO and slide one screen to the right in order to pause my Tivo. I should be able to either add a customized button on any screen OR (and more importantly) customize the hard buttons to my liking. That is really basic features of a smart remote.
Anyhow, I still love my NEEOs and will try to find other ways to fulfill my needs while it is perfected.

    • Pontus Lernhag thanks for sharing. Funny to see that top priorities do change ;-D

Having the ability to change recipe screens (enable/disable/order) is possibly the most requested feature currently. As I know NEEO is listening, Maybe Raphael or Patrick can comment on the short future a bit.

  • In my opinion it will never come.
Already to display the time at the top of the remote, one of the top demand for over a year, we are still waiting, in 2019 ... lol

Even the key customization is pending. We almost forget that it is a programmable remote control. In my opinion, Neeo is not ripe. My request for improvement for NEEO2 was removed while it collected several tens of votes and interventions. The desire to communicate is stronger than that of improving their product. Pity.
