Lots of reconnecting to the brain.....

My iPhone and  remote both have frequent reconnections to the brain. Would it help if  I reconnected  the hardwired network cable?

  • Your WiFi is set up correcty at the NEEO? Is NEEO Link enabled? If your WiFi is set up Correctly, try if it is better if you unplug the LAN Connection, if not, try to reboot the Brain via unplug of the Power Cord. Maybe it will help, if the Brain bootes up newly

  • Hi  Thomas .  Markus  has mentioned some important point. Please follow the inputs from him. Afterwards, for us, it would be interesting if the Brain is located next to your WiFi Router or not. For better stability on the Remote, the "NEEO Link" should be enabled.

    • Sandro WiFi is setup properly. I have not plugged the LAN back in since setup. It was just a thought. The brain is about 2 feet from the router. Neo Link was enabled from the beginning. I'll try a brain reset.

      Thanks,

      Tom

  • My remote was having to reconnect repeatly until I realized I was pressing a button, usually volume or mute, while it was asleep. If you allow it to wake up and you see the wifi connection in the top corner, then it works.  The remote displays a message "please wait" if you don't wait for the wifi icon.  To me, the sleep function shouldn't disconnect the remote from the brain so quickly.  Every time the remote is connected and I don't let the remote go to sleep, them response is instantaneous.

Edley Jones Have you already done the software update for the Brain and Remote? Regarding the fast disconnecting issue for the Remote, there are several improvements in the newest firmware.
Can you quickly tell me, which software version you've installed?

  • Sandro, attached is a photo of my current settings.   I haven't been tracking the updates but I think I saw that the brain firmware had been updated in the past two days since my post.  I did not update before taking this picture, but will do so.    I actually used the Neeo more than my four old remotes yesterday! Thanks, Edley

  • Edley Jones Seems like you are running the latest firmware on the NEEO Remote. What came to my eye though is that you seem to have no WiFi network on the NEEO Remote right when you were taking the screenshot.

The question now is why the NEEO Remote keeps losing WiFi. Is the coverage good where you are using your NEEO Remote? Are you using the NEEO Brain on WiFi? Can you maybe tell us a bit more about your WiFi setup (i.e. Router, Repeaters, Encryption...)?

  • Andy,  the connectivity has materially improved with recent updates, but, just to let you know, it loses contact from time-to-time.  My wifi is broadcast via the Amplifi LR mesh system, and it works quite well.  The signal strength can be tested with the Amplifi app, and is very good.  I just tested it, and the signal strength for the mesh point, which the conduit for wifi to the area of the house where the NEEO is located, is 100% at 2.4 GHZ.  The encryption is WPA2 PSK.

You have promptly worked with me on several issues of the kind I expected with a new technological product, and it has been fascinating to set the NEEO system up- especially creating and testing recipes.  I have to say for anyone questioning the product, that the wait, while irksome, was worth it.  NEEO has replaced 5 remotes!  They are gathering dust in the corner, where they will stay.

    Thanks,

    Edley

Edley Jones Thanks a lot for your positive feedback, especially since you are still seeing a few issues. We are working very hard on further improving NEEO, and many amazing features are yet to be published, we are glad to hear you already like your NEEO.

When you NEEO Remote goes down, how long does it usually take until it is up again? If you have NEEO Link enabled, can you still control devices in that state? I am not sure yet, but if I have understood your network correctly it consists out of multiple access points. It might be that the NEEO Remote has good reception on multiple of these and therefore keeps switching in between access points.

I am sure we can work that one out too.

    • Edley Jones I echo your comments. People flipping out need to stay calm. It is worth the wait. I have had 7 remotes replaced. Two more to go!!! (post coming soon)

  • Patrick, from the moment the remote freezes and displays the message that it cannot communicate, to the time it is reconnected, usually takes 1-5 seconds.  I enabled the NEEO Link some time ago, and this disconnect/reconnect is happening with the NEEO Link enabled.  Are you suggesting I disable the Link?

My wifi is a mesh system that offers superior connectivity because the ends of the house are a good distance from the base wifi router.  The system works fine with all other devices, so think its a NEEO issue.  I think the router is too far away for the NEEO brain to connect to it.  Also, the router has a setting to steer a device to the router if it detects any signal, but that feature is disabled, so devices should not be attempting to connect to the router where the mesh point is closer.

For a time, I kept the LAN connected even though the WLAN was working, thinking of it as a backup for connectivity.  What do you think of this idea?  I disconnected the LAN yesterday as a test and didn't notice any real difference in the connectivity.  Thanks,

    Edley

  • Enabling / Disabling NEEO Links should not make a difference since, based on your information that there is no difference when you have the NEEO Brain connected to ethernet, this really looks like an issue concerning WiFi on the NEEO Remote.

I do not want to blame your WiFi, I am much more trying to track down what exactly is causing the issue on NEEO so that we can get that fixed. If the NEEO Remote would keep switching in between two different access points, that could explain the behavior. Do you have any kind of roaming enabled in your Wifi settings?

Is it correct that you are not getting these connection issues when using the NEEO App?

    • Patrick  hi, Patrick. I wanted to update you on this connectivity problem. I still have problems with the remote losing contact with the brain, followed by the message that it cannot reconnect to the brain. On several occasions when this has happened I accessed the app on my phone and was able to make a connection with the brain instantly every time.

I have updated the firmware, and reset and rebooted the remote many times, but the problem continues. I know you raised the question whether this was a problem with my Wi-Fi, but as my phone is able to make contact with the brain through Wi-Fi without fail, I do not think it is a problem with my Wi-Fi signal.  My thought is that it is a problem with the software for the remote. Thanks,

      Edley

Edley Jones Thanks for the additional information. OK, so we may assume that the issue is really related to your NEEO Remote since the NEEO Brain seems to work with the App also when the remote is having issues.

I just sent you a private message, looking forward to your reply.
