Assigning hardware buttons on NEEO

My setup uses an Raspberry Pi running Kodi attached trough HDMI to my AV receiver which sends video to my TV and audio to my speakers.

When I activate my 'Raspberry' recipe I would like to use the hardware buttons on the NEEO remote to control the Raspberry. Unfortunately I haven't figured out yet how to get this to work.

If I set ‘show AV controls’ I can only control the volume of my AV receiver with the hardware buttons, which is what I want. What I would like is to use the arrow buttons, OK, back and menu buttons as well.

If however i set ‘show TV controls’ pressing the left hardware button inputs ‘down’ to the Raspberry en if i press the right hardware button it inputs ‘up’ to the raspberry. Volume hardware buttons control the TV volume in this setup.

It’s all very frustrating that my NEEO can’t replicate the basic inputs that my simple TV remote can.

Thanks in advance for helping :)

    Many thanks for your feedback!

How does the AVR control the Pi? Via CEC?

  • Hi Andy,

Correct, in my setup prior to the NEEO I would control the RPi with my TV remote -> HDMI -> AVR -> HDMI -> RPi.

As I understand it the inputs of the TV remote would be send to the RPI trough CEC with the AVR just forwarding the signal.

As we are sending the same commands to the TV as the original TV remote, you should be able to control the Pi the same way as prior to NEEO. Using the "Show TV controls" step should work. Can you please check if your original TV remote still sends the correct commands to the Pi? Also, which exact TV and AVR model do you use? And please check if our TV driver works correct with the TV. Thanks!

  • Hi Andy,

the original TV remote still works. My TV is a Toshiba 40HL933G and the AV receiver a Sony STR-DN860.

Your suggestion of using Show TV controls doesn’t work for me unfortunatly

Please first test if the TV sends the cursor commands to the TV (not the Pi) correctly. Next, add Cursor shortcuts from the AVR to the TV shortcut page and test if the cursor are sent correctly to the AVR (not the Pi). One of these devices should have an error with the cursor commands I guess. This way we can figure out if the TV or the AVR is actually controlling the Pi and then can correct the driver. Thanks!
