Enable self learning of IR codes

It's nice that you try to add as many IR codes as possible, but there are always situations where it does not go fast enough or you don't support. All past great remotes (Philips and Nevo) had that and it nicely worked.

  • This feature will be made public if it’s fully complete. When a iR signal is recorded then a lot of cleaning is necessary. And a lot of parameters are necessary to make a fully working driver. Think about timings and such.

If you have codes then this is very helpful for the driver team.

  • Well, I got this feature 10 years ago on my NEVO. It's totally easy and I don't request that you take commands over.

    • X X Yes, the use case for u as the User is easy, but the software behind needs a few additional things to "know".

Also you must make sure, that all available commands for one device is recorded and not only the ones the user whant to record. Else, you never can use the Driver for other people around the unit, or it is not fully available.

The Feature was anounced and is neccessary, but currently the Team behind neeo trys to build a clean as possible IR-Database.

Markus Mahr I don't want to use it for "other people". I gladly help to support you with code request, but I would like to use my remote NOW. Think about what you said... actually the user must have priority not your database...

    • X X first of all, I don't work for NEEO nor I'm related with them. I'm a user like anybody else with a little more knowledge about the product and the background.

From a reliable and clean database everyone gets their usage. And it is the decision of the NEEO Team if they want or not.

Markus Mahr I would like to hear from NEEO then. I am not willing to go like Apple does it "they know best what users have to accept".  I'd like to use my device my way, if it's possible I keep it and buy two more devices and recommend it to my friends or else I will dispose it...

  • Just received my Neeo and it looks great but I must say that the biggest omission is an ir learning function. I have lots of odd little no brand devices which are never going to make it onto a db - air filter, hdmi switches etc and want to add these. My ancient Harmony handles them with ease - it really is a big problem for me....oh and  the lack of Bluetooth control on launch is irritating to say the least. Sadly not impressed so far.

    • Barry Wetherilt Try it! Make a request for your devices and I am sure Andy or any other NEEO team member will find a solution for you!

From my point of view, it's this active participation that is NEEO's biggest advantage over other products available...

      Like
    • X X it’s not available in the firmware NOW but as soon as the feature is fully completed then I’m sure NEEO will put it in the firmware.

Just recording a iR signal and sending it isn’t to hard and in most cases that even works, but that on its own is not a solution. To do it right there is a lot more needed than just recording an iR signal. Decoding, sanatizing, timings, repeat multiplying, etc etc to name a few. This all has to be provided to users that doesn’t want to know about these necessary things so a wizard of some kind is needed. I hope you understand that it’s not just enabling an option.

Niels de Klerk I know it's not available now, unfortunately.

This feature worked on the Nevo S70 for more than 10 years with 100% accuracy and before even on the Philipps remote. This is real old tech! Extremely easy...

  • X X i'm sure somebody from NEEO wil reply, but they don't do any other reply then me or Niels allredy did.

If you look close at your remote then you find that the rmote currently runs Software 0.XX in the normal way all numbers below 1 are indicating a not fully featured Software, means, until you see 1.XX all promised features must be implemented. And it is not about that the team is not willed to do it. They just need time to do it. If you flip your Brain you see Names written on it, that are nearly all Members of the Team behind NEEO, if you count them here on planet NEEO you will come to 32 People with the @NEEO tag, that means, these are the only people involved in software, hardware, communication and everything else.

The Team is wonderfull and trys really hard to kill bugs and issues, but they are not Apple, AMazon or Google, so it needs some more time.

As you also allready sayed, the competitior to these remotes have more then 10 Years of experience in the hands of people, and nobody know how long they develope this product previous seling.

That is also the point: At the Kickstarter Platform you don't sell a Product, you back into a Company to bring such Hard or Software to life, not to sell you a fullfilled product. Maybe you will receive a reply by Patrick or even Raphael but it is their decision.

Markus Mahr agreed with most of your points. However, products which already 10-15 years ago worked. This should be the starting point for the new product.

I don't expect a fully working product, but at least give the user the possibility to change things. Or does NEEO want to go the iTunes way and force the user to behave in a specific fashion. It should be open and NEEO will be successful. LET'S SEE

  • X X We have outlined quite a few times that IR learning is coming but not yet available. What  Niels de Klerk and Markus Mahr are posting is absolutely correct.

Yes, currently we are a bit over 48h with handling device request due to the pretty big load of request due to European units being shipped.  The whole device driver team is working hard to catch up and we will soon be below 48h again.

Thanks for helping us improve our database.

Patrick nobody from NEEO actually answered to me re direct IR input. Only "users" with unuseful information and not good technical knowledge.

The delay of 3 days or more to fix device IR code however is a problem. Especially if I get an answer that it should work but it does not.

At least it would be nice to inform the user of the delay and not promise something you don't adhere too

      Like
    • X X you do not want Neeo to become "they know best what users have to accept" yet you are saying "my device is the most important one to fix since i cannot use it right now"?

You are basically complaining that there is no IR-code learning, which i fully understand and which should and will be added. But you are also complaining that your remote isn't supported which could be an easy fix.

Just provide the codes that should be added, which would mean that you have to use Google. I did it for you, which led me to this page:

      Sony HAP-Z1ES Discrete Codes Verified

      http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-discrete/thread.cgi?7367

As always, most companies do not share their IR-codes so there is no guarantee that this will work however it will help Andy and the driver team to verify what they added is correct.

  • If I could add the code myself I would not complain.

I'm waiting for more than 3 days now that a device is added or fixed. NEEO's reasoning is that they add everything within max 48 hours. At least I would expect some feedback if they don't keep their promise. Don't you?

    Like
    • X X yes, but they are busy do to the EU launch as Patrick mentioned (and sorry for passing the wrong device) i don't know if a workaround would be to learn the codes yourself (via USB/FLIRC + some IR code app) and share that with the team? Anyway i hope that your device is added asap so you can enjoy rather then be disappointed :)

  • X X If you read hear, you will find many of open requests. The Team behind NEEO is only 30 people big, that means, sometimes the issues get steacked and sometimes it is faster to add a device, sometimes it is not. Also the Guys do not work on Weekends or Holidays, and that is their good right!

As talked earlier. And some of the Useres who answer to you are able to help here, and that is the reason you get a answere within a few hours / minutes sometimes. From side of NEEO, the only paid persons for this planet are Patrick and Emily, they both try hard to read, assign and answere every single post, but to be fair, they are two in front of 2000 so it can sometimes take time to get an "official" answere from NEEO. Also that is why some of us users try to link the right people to issue topics...

But if you don't whant such feedback, we also can ignore your topics and don't try to help you!

Markus Mahr please stop with the same story line over and over again. If I have a reasonable request to NEEO, I expect an answer from them, not just anybody without the necessary knowledge. Don't be offended but help users if you can but don't comment on company issues. Much appreciated

I'm guessing handbags is a regional term for boxing gloves, but it has a very different meaning here in the US. I have visions of old ladies swinging their purses at Neeo staff people.

Andy dear Andy, could you please check the picture with the remote I posted earlier. On the remote you see ALL the buttons which can be controlled (10) and actually are on the amplifier. Look at your device codes. They are totally wrong to begin with. There is no such thing like Input 1-4, digit 1-10 does also not exist. You have the codes for a wrong device. Thanks for trying.
