Questions

Hi guys,

So, I have been trying to figure out the Neeo and the lack of instructions and guidance is really poor. A quick setup guide would be really good.

So, I have a few questions,

1.       What’s the point of the HDMI on the back of the Neeo?

2.       What is the point of the “I think it’s as IR extension” with the long-braided cable, it has a small one-inch black circle on the end.

3.       I have a Boxee Box and it has a remote which is Bluetooth I guess, I have recently purchased a IR dongle for it, I have no idea how to get it to work with the Neeo. The brain has a BT transmitter can that be used to control the Boxee or will I need to use the IR dongle?

A diagram with where each item is located would be nice when planning where to place the Neeo.

Thanks for the help in advance.

  • 1.  The HDMI is for CEC type of connections/control

    2. That is an IR Extender - useful if you equipment is out of sight (such as in a cabinet) of the brain.

    3. The bluetooth functionality in the brain isn't active yet - if you got the IR dongle working, then the brain can use that (I don't have a boxee box so can't help much there)

  • Can you post a picture of the exact dongle. If it’s a flirc than you can add a flirc device

      Hey, thanks for the reply.

So, from what I can gather, they are going to be uploading the codes for the IR dongle in question so that we can control the Boxee with this IR receiver, is this correct? https://planet.neeo.com/t/x1gbh0

As a matter of interest, are there any official supported IR receivers?

If you can control boxee with the IR dongle now , iI think you can use NEEO when the device is added. I hope to control my Shield with it.

Flirc is supported as Niels stated, buth much more expensive.

    • Wayne Dean could you test by adding the Microsoft MCE driver? Looks like a MCE R6 remote to me

    • Niels de Klerk I dont follow, could you be a little more speific as to what device you are making refrence? Either way, it doesnt work with the Neeo remote even though it does with its own remote on the boxee.

      Like
    • Wayne Dean the dongle. I’m sure it works with the original remote of the dongle but to be able to control it with NEEO the NEEO must send the same type of Ir codes. As it says MCE I’m advising to test the Microsoft MCE driver. Chances are this won’t work when the dongle has its own Undocumented codes. Have you ever used a universal remote with it? If so on what universal remote and how did you add it back then? This could give a clue to what codes it needs. The driver team of NEEO is extremely good in these kind of things so don’t worry just yet.

  • Hi, Wayne Dean. Welcome to Planet NEEO.🙂 I have forwarded your request to the team. They can add IR devices very quickly and independent from firmware releases. If it's not an IR device we use a voting system to add the most favored devices here.  In that way, we are able to set priority for the most wanted devices. Please check out our NEEO guide on the NEEO help desk over here. For further help or information, you are always welcome to write here on Planet NEEO.

    • Hi,  Wayne Dean. I'm wondering too, why you would be able to use your device via Bluetooth. 😉 At the moment we are not supporting your device via Bluetooth. As we have to check out with each manufacturer individually, Bluetooth will need a little bit more time. As  Andy has already mentioned, the MCE remote Control is already supported. So if you need further help please let me know.

Please excuse this. You have probably missed my reply. Please just add the "Microsoft MCE Media Center (Advanced)" driver. If it's as described by you is using MCE drivers, this one will work fine for you. Thanks!

Very strange. I'm 90% sure that I did own the exact same remote and did control it with the MCE driver. Is the dongle perfectly in line of sight with the brain? Also, do you own a plasma TV? I remember having interferences by my old plasma TV when using this dongle.
Anyway, I'll go on searching for the correct codes.

    • Andy I do have a plasma, that said, everything else works, amp, tv and tivo from remote. The boxee doesnt power on (manually power on from boxee remote), the IR reciever works with its own remote on the boxee. See images for setup, am i missing something?

Ok, then it makes sense that the MCE driver didn't work. Was confused by the previous link. Anyway, the US office confirmed that the remote was ordered and is on it's way.
      I'll keep you posted.

I don't know the Lenovo and Dell remotes. Most of these MCE remotes share the same IR codes and are 100% supported by NEEO. But some MCE remotes use different codes. Chances are that we have not the correct driver for them. At least the Dell one has RC6 in the model name; which is a good sign that it supports standard MCE codes.
The HP one looks better. I actually own a HP MCE dongle; it works with MCE codes. The model in your link is a bit different, but should work anyway.

On the other hand, you've requested this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004B9FPIS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Do you search for a replacement for this device? If yes, I can assure you the remote is on the way to the US office and we'll add this device as soon as possible.

POWER TOGGLE, POWER TOGGLE ON and POWER TOGGLE OFF are the same code and taken from the same source. Your device supports POWER TOGGLE only and no actual discrete POWER ON and POWER OFF commands.
Did the power initially work? Is the non-working power a new occurrence?

      I'm sorry to hear!

This remote uses the MCE codes. I'll create a Live IR Test about all possible MCE codes by tomorrow. But if none of them will work, I'm afraid there is no such command for this device.

If your device already uses MCE codes, no. All other supported IR dongles are using MCE codes, too I'm afraid.
