Cloud Shutdown impact

Do we have a definitive list of things that won't work anymore when they shut own the servers?

I'd like to know what I would lose and what maybe could or need be replicated to keep the remote going.

  • - No account login / no usage of the app

    - No new adding of devices

    - no channel logo search

    - no backup / restore

The remote itself will work wihtout cloud, but no changes can be made with the app. You need to login when new phone is setup, you loose control of the remote then.

  • Is the device database on the servers then I assume and gets pushed down?  The login stuff I would expect could be solved pretty easily by spoofing a server on the LAN.

    • Matt B Database and every device will be downloaded form the server, yes. Login and all communications is encrythed therefor hard to spoof.

  • Are there any ‘best practices’ or steps anyone would recommend we follow before the final shutdown? I have been following the development of the YIO remote, and will most likely purchase the kit once ready, but would at the same time like get as much use out of my Black Cat NEEO as I can and for as long as possible.

    • Tom Mandel When you not going to change anything at your Setup (also not require the app on a new phone) you can endlessly use the remote after shutdown. There is not much you can do. If you require new Hardware or change your Setup, it will not be possible to add these devices to NEEO, so then it is going to die slowly.

So recipes cant be modified? Everything has to be used as is after the servers shut down? 😥

Has anyone reached out to control4 to have a subscription based server?

    • ClearHeatVision As long as your app is logged in, you are able to do this, but as soon as the app has logged out you will not be able to login anymore, when the servers are unreachable.

On ISE2019 shortly after the sell announcment there where talks about the ongoing, but there never where any news or infos from c4 side. We all will see what happen, or if the servers will go down or not.

    • Markus M Do you know what the current date for server shut down is exactly?

Up to that point, can they add any devices at all if we contact them? For instance, maybe I should buy a new TV, and then have them add it before it goes down, that way I can extend the life of the remote? Same with PS5...

      Thoughts?

  • Seriously. You can add devices by providing the data via local network. If they would care the slightest bit about their backers, they would at least provide a self host database service with the devices data they already have implemented. But I don't see anything like this happening.

Thomas Hebendanz  I've asked for this and have mentioned it before. Raphael  At least allow the original owners to run the server as a home application on a PC that can allows us to update and modify our config and continue to use the device.  I don't see it happening as I would guess all work/support/development on any Neeo software has been dead for a while and I would assume they would not want to turn over the code as is.   Maybe someone will prove me wrong I hope.  Nothing to lose anyway, limited devices out there, new C4 device is different and not compatible.   It's not going to keep people from converting to C4 if that's a worry on their side.  Because most of us don't want to go to C4 anyway.

    • Matt B I am pretty ignorant and haven't even looked at C4 products at all. Do any of them seem to be like the next gen NEEO remote in terms of functionality / design?

ClearHeatVision  The hardware is the same IIRC, different firmware and OS.  Someone even said that maybe there was a chip on the board changed for the new firmware/OS.  I don't know.   The reality is that if they could give us the server software for our own in home use, it wouldn't impact them at all  with any C4 deployment or customers.  It's a completely different system.  No trade secrets would be lost.  No loss of C4 customers.   Us DIY'ers don't want to go C4 anyway. I'm perfectly happy with my Hubitat, Smartthings, Hue and Zwave switches I have setup currently.

    • Matt B Your post made me curious enough to visit Control4's website.

You are right. Looks like identical hardware. Only Control4-ified software. Doesn't seem to need a phone app anymore. Everything is through the remote itself.

      But...$600 for it is insane.

Here is the spec sheet for the NEEO3

    • ClearHeatVision It is not the same Hardware! It is the NEEO Pro they announced shortly before!

Here is an old Spec sheet:

At least they have updated the RAM to double it. And they lost 6LowPAN as well.

I have a couple of philips hue lights. So the hub is connected to NEEO.

Is it possible to add new lamps after the shut down?

    Like
    • Markus M as you allready have the integration NEEO-Hue this should not be an issue. As NEEO allready talks to HUE
