First NEEOs arriving today - Update your NEEO right away
The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here, the very first NEEOs will arrive at your homes today. Please understand that dependant on your location the shipment may take a few days more after you have received your tracking number.
Update your NEEO right away
We want you to experience all the new features and important fixes of the most recent firmware. Therefore, please update your NEEO right away using an ethernet connection, which is currently required for the first setup in all cases.
Your NEEO will arrive with the firmware 0.40.7. The latest versions are the following:
NEEO Brain: 0.45.7
NEEO Remote: 0.45.6
How to update
After installing the NEEO App on your mobile device, open the app and follow the instructions on your mobile device to set up NEEO.
If you are able to connect to your WiFi throughout the initial setup, you may completely skip this guide and just follow the instructions in the NEEO app. After the initial setup, allow your NEEO Brain some time to download the latest firmware in the background. A red exclamation mark appearing on the settings menu on the top right will indicate the update is ready. Now to get your NEEO Brain updated, just tap on the settings menu, follow the red exclamation mark and the screen instructions on your mobile device.
If you are having troubles getting WiFi connected in the initial setup, follow all steps below.
- During the WiFi setup, tap "Skip this step" and ignore the warnings on the following screens. Don't boot your NEEO Remote yet, in case you already did, don't worry.
- Proceed following the instructions in the NEEO mobile app. After adding your first device (for example your TV) tap "Done".
- Allow your NEEO Brain some time to download the firmware in the background. A red exclamation mark appearing on the settings menu on the top right will indicate the update is ready as shown on the first picture of this post.
- Tap on the settings menu in the NEEO mobile app and follow the exclamation mark by clicking "NEEO Brain" and then "Firmware update". Start the update by clicking "Update". The LED indicator on the NEEO Brain will be blinking in red during the update process.
- Follow the instructions on the screen until the update is completed. Be aware that the update process will take 10-15 minutes.
- You can now setup your Wifi connection by opening the settings menu in the NEEO mobile app, tapping "NEEO Brain" and then "WiFi Setup". Follow the instructions to get your WiFi connection up and running.
- Once your WiFi is setup, you may unplug the ethernet cable of your NEEO Brain if you wish.
You can now start using your NEEO Remote. Just follow the instructions on the screen of the NEEO Remote to get it setup. After pairing your NEEO Remote with your NEEO Brain, your NEEO Remote will automatically start downloading the latest firmware. A popup on the NEEO Remote will inform you once the update for the NEEO Remote is ready to be installed.
More devices can be added by using the NEEO mobile app. Open the settings menu, tap "Devices" and then "Add a device".
Enjoy!

Just received my Neeo (Oakland, California, USA). Woot!
Ok, I take back the snarky comment I made a year (or two?) ago about meeting deadlines. Water under the bridge.
First impression is that the packaging is very well done--as good or better than any consumer device I've purchased, incl. iPhone, Nest, Echo, etc. Super job!
However.... the engineer then overrides the artist in me and I realize I would appreciate eco packaging even more--all recyclable (no foam), post-consumer recycled material, no inks, etc. Save the environment a little and save some cost for the product itself. I almost feel like mailing the packaging back so that it can be reused--it would be a shame to toss it, and I won't.
Anyway, just my initial comment. Now I look forward to setting it up and using it. Thanks--so far it appears to be well worth the wait!

Okay, I just spent over an hour talking with Raphael trouble shooting my set up. Here is my advice when starting out for this initial set of units that have the old firmware:
1- Plug in your remote first thing. Mine came with just a little charge and it ran down fast trying to set it up. Just get it charging while you do the rest of the steps. They are supposedly leaving the factory with a 50% charge, but mine didn't. By the time you are done with the rest of the steps, it should have enough to make it through any setup.
2- You have to plug your unit into your router to start off. Go ahead and upgrade the firmware on your brain while plugged in. It goes a lot faster and if you happen to move the brain in an area without a strong reliable wifi signal (this was one of my problems) it will be nothing but trouble. It will take about 10-15 minutes (not kidding). It will flash red for a while, then go dark, then start flashing white, then have a solid white light. WAIT FOR THE SOLID WHITE LIGHT. Use the app and check that the firmware is the latest (listed above) before disconnecting it. It will just save you a lot of frustration. Once done, go ahead and move it where you will use it.
3- Once you have your brain set up where you are going to use it, use the app and get a few devices set up. This makes sure where you are using it has a decent enough wifi signal. Use it some just to check things work.
4- Once you have things running with the app, fire up the remote. When linking the remote to the brain, please note that there are different states on the brain, one with a fast flashing light and one with a slow flashing. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE SCREEN if you are supposed to just quickly press the top of the brain or if you are supposed to hold it for 8 seconds. Each of these puts the brain in a different mode.
5- Once the remote is linked to the brain, immediately go to the settings (small bars in the top right) and choose update. When trying to update, follow the instructions on the screen (timing of any short press and long press, better not to mix them up). This seems to work best if you put the remote back in the charging dock once you launch the update. Something about being in the dock clicks things into gear when the update is having trouble. Just bypass some frustration for yourself and put it in the dock.
6- Same thing as the brain, it will go dark for a while then start back up. If it doesn't come back after being dark like 5 minutes, probably safe to hit power. After that you should be REA TA GO ....
Apparently as new units roll off the assembly line, they will have the newer firmware and this won't be quite as difficult. Just trust me on the above and follow neeo's instructions at the top with my recommendations and things should go smoothly.
I hope this helps all the new people get up and running quickly and with little frustration! -
Alan Kelleher Which devices have you added? What we show on the home screen are actually recipes, not devices. So when you for example add a TV, an AVR and a Set Top Box, you will only see a single recipe. This is then enough to do all controls needed. Based on the response you give during the setup and wiring, NEEO will then send the correct commands to the right devices. So there is no need to see all devices in our opinion. If you want to see more recipes for other devices, you may enable them in the settings.
Would you mind opening a new thread for the "loose part issue"?

This may be the bug I'm hitting, got my neeo, it's basically a doorstop because WiFi won't work, what happens though since I didn't see these instructions before putting in my WiFi. So you say above like don't worry if you already have but ok I'm stuck in a loop with a nonfunctional product, now what? What are the steps to fix?

My brain doesn't seem to be updating. The set-up went flawlessly and was able to add a few items (minus my DirecTV HR24-200 which doesn't seem to be compatible). In searching for a solution for this, I found this topic.
Therefore, I tried to update my Brain. On the App - Settings -> NEEO Brain -> Firmware Update returns 'No Updates Available' and Last Check was 9 minutes ago (4:54pm ET) Current version shown as 0.40.7(et al).
I've power cycled the Brain and still have the same result. I removed the ethernet cable initially but have it plugged back in now.
Any suggestions on how to update? Similarly, any suggestion for my DirecTV set-top box?
Thanks

Well in waiting for my brain only pledge to be sent I picked up a silver combo on eBay. I got it today and I'm happy to say setup was a breeze. I was a little concerned given some people had issues. But everything went smoothly for me. I have to say you really have to hold the remote in your hand to appreciate it. I'm not sure when I'll be getting my brain pledge but if anyone needs an extra brain I'll have one eventually for sale.

I waited more than two years for the delivery notice. UPS says it was delivered yesterday and left on my doorstep (apartment in NYC). All that was there when I got home was the NEEO packing slip...I assume someone opened the box and walked off with it. How do I go about getting a new one shipped to me??
-
I printed the instruction just to be ready to update when I receive my package ..... I may need to update the version numbers in the print a couple of times so I ordered a tippex bottle on Ebay today and verified that they don't have any shipping problems into EU ....
I also moved my vacation to End of december to be ready for the unboxing experience and initial setup. I just told my Company that I'm not 100% sure if I need it this december or December 2018. Luckily they are very flexible.
So, all set for the device. Happy to wait.

I received my NEEO, which includes the brain and remote. The packaging is very nice.
I managed to get the brain updated, after some tries. I also added a couple of devices using the iPhone App. I was not able to put the remote to work.
The remote... The remote is in a loop.
If we start from a black screen and press the “on/off” for 2-3 seconds. The screen gives me few seconds to put the remote into a text box, after the time is elapsed it states AFST is in progress, then it goes to QR code that means “FAIL” and then locks with orange screen.
(See attached pictures)
Please let me know what to do to solve this.
Best, Romulo
