Release Notes “True Survivor" (Release 0.49.10)

Friends,

I am more than delighted to unveil the next software release to you! The release is ready when you read this. In order to get it onto your NEEO quickly, make sure to check out the "how to update your NEEO” section below.

As always, many of the new features are strongly influenced by all the discussions and the feedback you provide on Planet NEEO. Thanks a lot for being so active!

I’m super excited to announce the new customization features. Starting from today you will be able to freely customize the view of every single screen on the NEEO remote & app. By sorting, hiding and manually creating any screens for each individual device you get a whole new level of customization. Let’s dive deeper:

Whenever you start a recipe on NEEO, you’ll have different screens available through which you can swipe horizontally, those screens are what we call a "recipe slide". Here are a couple of examples of what you can do: Let’s say you are using the TV recipe only for SmartTV functions and don’t need the TV favorites slides, no problem, you can now hide these. Another one: If all you need on your setup box are the “Favorites” slides, go ahead an hide everything else. Generally, if the automatically generated slides are not what you wish to use, create new slides with shortcuts and just drag them in the first position and you’ll always get to see this first. I could write a whole book of examples right here, but I’m sure you got it ;-) Just FYI - depending on how you add the buttons, sliders, widgets etc - some shortcut screens can look a bit weird. We are working on the cosmetics of these shortcuts as they just became more important with the new customization options. Things will look muuuch prettier in the next release (most likely 0.50.x). Just wanted to warn you ;-)

All these customization options are available via the NEEO App by choosing “Edit slides” on the top right within a recipe or by going to the settings in the NEEO App and then choosing “Customize Slides” after clicking on a recipe.

Of course there is a ton more. Thanks to a bunch of change in the background the NEEO experience has been further improved for more speed, even higher reliability and overall snappier performance. In addition to a bunch of SDK changes we also enabled support for hidden SSIDs. Below are the full release notes for everyone who loves to know the details. Also, check out the Known Issues for this release.

How to update your NEEO

Once the update is available it will show up in your NEEO App as well as on the NEEO Remote in the top right corner with a red dot with an exclamation mark. All you have to do is opening the NEEO App and then follow this red exclamation mark, you’ll then be guided through the process. We have also prepared a little guide

Be aware that it may take a few hours until your NEEO Brain shows the update, not all of them download the update at the same time, so give it some time. A little hint from me: Rebooting the NEEO Brain initiates a firmware check and speeds up the download process.

  • Last release was a desaster, connectivity issues and full of function that are nice to have but you promissed core and USP functions are still not avaliable. No documentation of the functionallity of your "HIGH END" product in one place, IR Specs are insufficent for more then 1 IR eye....

We still have harmony me too remote control with bugs and pilot software. I was patience but after 3 years basics missing, last release my remote had issues getting worse, no response on my "switch the remote" request..

this patience will end now! Get your stuff straight, priorize what you promised to deliver, publish a release scedule for the features you promise and keep the promised dates in this scedule!

One of this feature is an online user manual with all features documented and some learning/sample videos of typical and most used functions!!!

The following functions (beside several others) where promised 3 years ago and were the USP of neeo and my arguments towards my wife and myself to justify to spend 400 bucks for a remote:

IR self learning => not present and no I don't accept your politics that I have to go through the driver team and make imporve your driver database but spend hours on testing and mailing... plus I just want to learn the buttons i need which your driver team cannot do!

MEANS IT IS AVALIABLE SO RELEASE IT IMMEDIATELY AS IT WAS A PROMISED FEATURE!!! or you pay me 400Euro/h (as each of my clients do), for you to test and correct your database.

Fingerprint sensor => individual setup and setting due to fingerprint => not avaliable

I request from you a precise and kept release date for this 2 features, as feature IR self learning is avaliable this soon in a resonable amount of time = not 3 month!!!

    • Christian Uhl New features are often chosen by its demand. The voting system is an important part of that, make sure to vote.

Including drivers though the driver team results in uniform drivers that are available to anyone. Chances are that the drivers you’re using are made possible because someone else have done the same.

Finger print sensor and IR-self learning are core+must have features that were promised since the kickstarter campagne and are the UNIQUE FEATURES of the NEEO that seperates it from the Harmony as market leader. So there is no voting for this, that are PRIO 1 requirements and promises NEEO made so people bought it ===> PLEASE RAFAEL make this very clear!!!! that this is the case!!! IF I need to vote for that I will return the neeo immediatly....

2nd: I don't give a s... about voting and about blogs etc. I bought a high end remote for 400$ with promised features I request now a release scedule with dates for this promised features.

This is not another gadet like a phone and I want to set up the dammed remote control once and then let it operate everyday. Only touch it when I have a new device to add or to delete....

But not even basics are done so till today I need to reconfigre it regularly because something else is wrong or doesn't work anymore or another try/test/failure report to driver team because I cannot programm it myself like I want it and forced to spend hours....and I am not willing to do this anymore!!!!! i have better things to spend my time and NEEO is by fare to much time consuming and didn't keep there promises yet.....so its time after its finally delivered 2,5 years later and everybody who bought it gets a sceduled release dates with the core features asap.

    • Dave H  and that is a joke compared to what is avaliable and compared to Harmony is offering. I am regretting now getting neeo instead of Harmony....

      Reply Like
    • @jeff IR self learning, fingerprint sensor to show different receipts/devices etc per person (my wife and I have totally different needs when watching alone) and the simple feature every remote on the planet has to be able to switch on/off a device  plus its input whenever I want it. In Neeo terminology outside the receipt eg if the receipt doesn't switch on the TV but it should I can start it with a touch of a button seperatly. restarting the receipt doesn't help here either. Or watching apple TV on the TV and now the episode is finsihed and I want to listen to music via airplay and switch off the TV because i don't need it on anymore. With Every 20 till 35$ remote I had I can do this, also with the 200$ Harmony my friend has but not with Neeo.

have a look at what "one for all" offers via its 35$ Nevo bridge plus nevo app:

      https://www.oneforall.com/urc8800-tablet-remote.html

simple, intuative, fully configurable, Macros (your receipts) are simply done by recording what you want the remote to do everytime you start the macro eg the switch on sequence i switch one step by step all the devices, chosing the input, wait for 3 seks, set volume etc and the stop recording. then I give the macro the name "watch apple TV" and job done. but I can simply adress every device seperatly and eg switch it on/off etc. on the same screen (= inside the marco or in Neeo language receipt). What the remote can do and you want it to do can be recorded and then assigned to a macro button.

Why I replaced this with NEEO and spent 10 times the money and not Harmony for 5 times:

      1) nevo app development stopped 3 years ago and slowly getting compatibility problems with apple releases for the IPad.

      2) No hard button for volume change and control wheel plus delay due to wifi => Neeo has that but only this limited number of buttons (Harmony has a lot more which are not needed)

      3) a) limited to OFA driver database but beside my motorized screen and the AVR build in internet radio I could get everything to work in one afternoon being a bit creative b) the OFA 8100 radio to IR transmitter which enabled me to remotely control all my radio controlled stuff too.

=> IR self learning, harmony doesn't offer it but offers OFA 8100 support and database so I can get this radio stuff to work too. Only the radio controled plugs I was able to integrate with neeo.

      4) different needs of my wife and myself when watching alone (full homecinema with 11.4 THX, beamer, 3m motorized screen, lights, blinds and all other gadets for a proper homecinema but eg my wife simply wanna watch Netflix on the small control TV and doesn't care about the rest, lucky i was allowed to install that all in our living room) => fingerprint sensor, harmony doesn't offer it

Don Tong Thank you for posting this. I don't see them flashing, but I believe you mean that they take some time to load. We made some changes in 0.49.10 to help address this. We will continue to improve the image loading as we progress.

Just out of curiosity, can you reboot your NEEO Brain and NEEO Remote and let me know if the same behavior is happening.

      Thanks!

  • Great to see a new version! Upgrade process was quite painful though.

Tried upgrading the brain, failed a few times with an error (as above). Restarted the brain, waited for it to re-detect the upgrade, and it worked fine then. That's the easy bit.

Did some slide re-arranging on the app, then started using the Remote. That couldn't communicate with the Brain, restarts did nothing. Tried re-pairing several times, and it either failed to find the Brain, or failed to load the interface after pairing. After many restarts of the Brain, Remote and the Wifi router, I eventually restarted the Remote and walked away for dinner. When I came back it was in mid upgrade, and when it booted up all was working. Hopefully this is related to the issue:

    Raphael said:
Fixed issue that the NEEO Brain was getting a new IP Address after a firmware update.

and won't be an issue in future firmware updates.

The screen re-arranging is great. Hopefully the ability to re-arrange buttons on individual screens isn't too far off. I did notice a difference between the same slide on the app and the Remote - one of the built-in screens on the app has the up/down/left/right/ok Menu and Info, but the Menu and Info buttons don't show anywhere on the Remote.

I have a 'TV' recipe, which is setup to watch Netflix on my LG 55SJ810V TV. The screens on the Neeo app include an Info button (useful for checking bitrate, sound & video format etc.), but the Remote doesn't show it.

      Mike Whooley You're welcome :)

The NEEO Remote should have those function already built into the hard buttons. Can you confirm this? Press the menu button and see what that gives you, also try the menu long press.

      Thanks!

    • Jeff Ahh another thing I just learned now, there is a difference in pressing the menu short and long...Well if a user manual would be available like for any other basic product in the world and for every high end product extensivly in very detail explain in multiple languages I would have know that BUT THERE IS NO USER MANUAL TILL TODAY that explains all this functinonallities in one spot. I just find them in endless unsorted mess of threads, blogs and by random....

      Reply Like 1
    • Christian Uhl ..and I don't normally need any user manual but the "simple and intuative" NEEO is that complex and intuative like windows that even I need a user manual to be able to programm and operate it to even half of its potential... I am sure NEEO can do much more then I know till now spending endless hours trail&error, mail+phone calls with support staff etc which I didn't have to do with any other remote I owned before....

      Reply Like 1
    • Jeff Pressing the Menu button does nothing, a long-press of the Menu button seems to bring up Settings (what pressing the 'cog' button does on the original LG remote).

Thanks for the explanation: I see now that's what the difference is. There's one screen on the app (4 coloured buttons, Menu, Back, Guide, Info and direction buttons & OK) that isn't on the physical remote. I didn't notice that before, since the remote still has the same number of screens as the app (this is because one long page of shortcuts on the app is shown as two pages on the remote). That screen probably isn't needed on the Remote because of the physical buttons, though it doesn't replace all of them.

It's no major issue! I just added the TV's Info button to the shortcut screen and it works fine.

On another note, I did just find 2 other issues (unrelated to latest update).

      - The Power On shortcut for my LG 55SJ810V does nothing. (However I just discovered the Power Toggle button does work. That's great for when the TV auto-powers off, I don't have to power-cycle everything just to get the TV back on.)

      - There's an "Info" button missing for the Onkyo TX-NR676E receiver. You can add a "Guide and Info" widget for that receiver, but it only adds the Guide button.

Mike Whooley Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I sent this information over to our IR driver team so they can get the IR codes fixed on your Tv and AVR.

For the menu button, I will also have them look into this. On my Sony Tv, I have a button on the native remote that brings up the menu I which I can access all of my Tv’s smart functions. I added this button as a shortcut, but now that you mention it should be brought up when I press menu button on the NEEO Remote. I’ll see what we can do about that as well. Once I have an update from them I will follow up with you :)

      Thanks!

Any idea how to add the apps installed on my TV on one of the sliders? (e.g. integrate in Favorites)

Can't be done in favorites.  To accomplish something like this you need to create a recipe for each app.  Start by adding your tv again, and then set up an automated recipe.  After the wiring is done, change the name of the recipe to Netflix, or whatever app you want to start.  Then edit the launch recipe by adding whatever button presses it takes on the original remote to open the app.  You may also need to add delays between commands.

    • Dave H That is another problem of the neeo. There is no button i can adress in any smart TV or Apple TV to this as you need to move with the wheel up/down/left/right to the app you wish and with a return confirm you wanna start this app. But the TV or apple TV doesn't start always on the same spot so even painfully programming the number of the up/down/left/right doesn't work as every time I execute this receipt a different app is started....

with the original remote it always starts on the same spot on my sony and apple TV but not with Neeo. And with Harmony that works like charm as a friend has nearly the same setup.

If I could self learning the remote I know how to get this done but I cannot because fu... NEEO owners decided i must contact the driver team and spend hours on testing and waiting till I get something but not that what I would programm myself.... ABOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

From the beginning I got the remote delivered till today half of the commands with my AVR Pioneer sc-lx76 are not work or are wrong plus I cannot operate the build in Internet radio via the NEEO. Several attempts to fix that all failed but with self learning I would have done that in 30min half a year ago!!!! ABOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

        • THX! When NEEO was released, my Samsung TV wasn´t listed, so before I contacted the driver team, I picked the closest Samsung driver. When I remember correctly this driver contained a Netflix button (which was pretty neat!) Since then I´m wondering how to get this done ;-) (perhaps one of the NEEO developers or driver team have more insights)

  • Another minor plus - in the last release, shutting down seemed to take a long time. You'd see the circular animation, then wait for a few more seconds, then the devices would start to switch off. Now it's back to shutting down while the animation plays. Nice!

    • Mike Whooley Funny - this issue seems to have come back.

It's a very minor one, but originally when you pressed the Power button on the Remote it started shutting down the current Recipe immediately. Sometime before the True Survivor update, this changed so nothing happens for several seconds, then the devices start shutting down. It seemed to be fixed after True Survivor came out, but now is happening again.

(It's possible it never was really fixed in True Survivor, but instead it's an issue which only starts happening over time). It's no biggie in any case.

Mike Whooley Hi Mike! Thanks for posting this. Do you notice this behavior with al recipes including any custom recipes you created? I don't know if this is an issue as all your devices in the specific recipe seem to be shutting down. Since then I am not able to connect to it from neither the remote nor the app. I had this already, was only able to connect again after several restarts of the brain and the remote, with no clear pattern why and when. Today I have restarted the brains at least 5 times now, to no avail. The problem is most probably that it doesn't get an IP address in the WLAN, I can see that in the router's dashboard. The remote can connect to the WLAN without any problem but the brain never shows up there as connected device.

Therefor I have to give up for today and hope to get connection tomorrow.

    • Hannes Gütlin Hi, thanks for your feedback. Was the NEEO Brain connected via ethernet after you have restarted your router and your NEEO Brain? If not, could you please try that and perform the WiFi setup once more? Could you also try to perform this speed test and send me your test results? Thanks.

    • Ingrid Hi. After letting the brain sleep all night long (turned off), it got an IP address right away this evening when I turned it on. It's always on WLAN as the router is in another room. However It still claims there are no updates available. Attached is a screenshot with the hostname. Here is the result from the Speedtest: https://s3-accelerate-speedtest.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/en/accelerate-speed-comparsion.html?result=10184-01652-0251-1975&identityId=unknown
which was run from my laptop which is close to the router.

  • Richard Moore This! And a simple rename of the shortcut functions would already do wonder - or even not show them in case of transporet controls. Speaking of the icons Patrick Raphael Jeff , why is it, that the app shows transport icons foe FFWD and RWD while on the remote it's still the generic icons? It's kind of a bummer and uneccesarily disrupts the perceived quality. And, an "eject" icon is also standarized since long but seems not to have found its way into NEEO GUI. But that aside it's an appreciated update. Thanks for that and looking forward to further improvements....plus, Bluetooth control for AFTV ;)

Hi! Can you send me a screenshot of what you're referring to? I just triggered my BlueRay recipe and the fast fwd and rwd icons are the same on the app as muy NEEO Remote.

      Thanks!

    • Dave H Thanks for the advise (seconding Richard 's question).

Abd - why is there brackets around cable in my view limiting it to 2 icons per line and not in yours???

The other thing that puzzles me is the different view on remote and app albeit using the same configuration. But, as Raphael said, it's going to improve. So, thanks for that and eagerly looking forward to it - hope it doesn't take too long. ;)

Last note towards Raphael : as you see, I am controlling the "disk" part of my "cable" device successfully this way, so really no need to have 2 devices for one unit, you could make this easily 2 (rearrangable) "control" screens (like favorites).

Well, then, actually, since I made tis part of the "TV" recipe, not even the "cable" recipe. Long live customisation options ;)

    • Klaus Grosser It's possible to add separate buttons, these are displayed as 2 icons per row.

A widget will "cluster" a couple of buttons.

The following image is showing that while adding a shortcut you can choose to add single shortcuts like buttons or add Widgets. the transport widgets are what you might be looking for.

    • Richard Moore Klaus Grosser As the photo that Niels de Klerk attached shows, the widgets are located on top of the shortcut page where you add them to your recipes.   His shows he is on a current beta software, but these have been available since NEEO was released.  Klaus, you will notice that the top 2 rows of my screen has the text in brackets because those are actual shortcut buttons.  The widgets below do not have the text.  Some widgets are 2 per line, some are 3.

      + widgets show up first

+ they are used throughout the default screens so people have seen them already

      - probably not everybody is familiar with widgets, therefor not immediately making the link with what they have seen in the default screens

      - I assume fewer will know what « transport » means (cannot think of a better name though)

      - you need to add them to see their exact layout and decide which ones best match your needs

    • Geert Van Der Linden yes, and no.... it's a mixed bag, somehow and here you all are right. First  off thanks again Niels de Klerk  and Dave H for putting my attention to it.
I couldn't imagine having not come across this and in fact I did - just, I did the configuration on my app I felt the buttons better as both showed the icons there but the buttons let me have 3 in a row instead of just 2 with the widgets. So I opted for butons to find out later it didn't show the icons on the remote itself, erratically asuming this would be the same with the widgets. So while I would currently prefer buttons on the app and widgets on the remote that's something I can clearly cope with until the next update ;)

If I had a wish free I would ask for a interactive play/pause toggle button as having both side by side is a clear comitment to the legacy requirements of physical buttons - play during play makes as little sense as pause during pause - you clearly use those controls alternating. With the Transport W/O Stop this would allow for a line of 5:

      Prev/FRWD/PlayPause/FFWD/Next

      - a perfect transport control, even with 3 in a row this would make perfect sense.

Stop and Eject could reside underneath then.

And yes, can we have "empty" lines and a "end of page", please, so one could define the pages of their Shortcuts section more individually and separated for "blocks"?

Similar with the favorite channel icons: they differ too much in size for me and while one read the channel name some just have the logo, and they are way to big, a customizable grid would be much preferrable, I still do like the Harmony GUI better here....

Anyway, good thing is I am slowly starting to practically put my NEEO to use now, even if still in parallel/alternating to my Harmony Elite. Without Bluetooth Neeo just cannot replace it completely for me as ther is no way to practically place it to controls my loudspeakers and my FireTV - So while it is more a TV remote in look and feel, I listen to music way more often than I watch TV. Double windmill situation. But I have hopes things will improve over the year and the day gets closer I might  retiring my Harmony with no regrets.

    • Klaus Grosser same here, I really wonder which percentage of NEEO owners already had a universal remote (my guess is a lot) and how many have already retired their other remote (my guess is so far only slightly less). Have to admit that the latest firmware, though not coming close to the claim of fully customisable screens, went much further in cleaning up the GUI than I had expected, so harmony retirement day came closer again ...

    • Dave H I saw those a long time ago... IIRC, the issue I had was they had to occupy a page by themselves, and couldn't be combined with shortcuts on the same page. If that's no longer the case, I will give it another try.

      Reply Like
    • Dave H After trying again I remembered that my prior issue with widgets was flexibility -- a widget with two or three buttons means those buttons can't be rearranged. A couple of buttons I needed are on widgets that also contain a button I would never or almost never need, taking up space that prevents me from getting all the most common functions on one page (which I still can't do). I can come closer to that goal with individual buttons. That said, I was able to get a workable arrangement using widgets, shown below.

There are still four buttons I want to add to this page: Previous Channel, Info, Page Up, and Page Down. Acceptable but mildly annoying would be to get Previous Channel on this page, and the other three (which are used together) on the second page.

So it occurs to me that what I really need are more and better widgets. Example: The A, B, and C buttons should be in a single widget occupying one row (I'd prefer a horizontal arrangement of these anyway). The Play button on the bottom widget is superfluous (because the Pause button actually toggles between Play and Pause). It could be replaced with the Replay button. The Live button could be added to the Rewind/FF widget. Info, Page Up, and Page Down could be a single widget.  That leaves room for Previous Channel (or perhaps a widget with Previous Channel and something else useful). Voila, all commonly used DVR features on one page (plus the hard keys). I'm going to post a voting item for this.

  • @raphael First I must applaud you for the improved frequency of your updates!

Unfortunately @ this writing I don't have good news to report concerning both of the recent updates (0.48.35 & 0.49.10).The Neeo is turning into a brick on the coffee table since my family is refusing to use it due to frustration with the Neeo inconsistent performance since update 0.48.35. Let me clarify one thing, and that is prior to 0.48.35 the Neeo was performing flawlessly and all family members, young & old were excited to use it. I have reported these issues in other post replies that had similar issues but have not seen a response to my concerns, so I will repeat the issues hear and state that the latest update 0.49.10 had no effect on improving performance. I have tried all the recommended methods of repair including re-acquiring the the network signal  to the extensive totally rebuilding of my recipes but nothing has rectified the situation. During a normal evening viewing session the "Freezes" & "Lock ups" will occur 3 or 4 times during use.

1- My Home Theater setup includes: Denon AVR-1913, DirecTV Genie Gen 2 HR44-500, Oppo BP-103, LG TV OLED65B7A, xBox 360.

2- Neeo Remote "freezes" during use and only can be reused if totally shut down and reset. In order to reset one must hold down the Power hard button at least 15 sec and some times as long as 30 sec. The most frequent activities that "freezes" the remote are the use of the DirecTV control's soft icon "30 Sec jump forward" with the "10 Sec jump backwards" occasionally resulting in the same shut down result.

3- Neeo Remote randomly restarts by itself. Not sure why this is happening but again, very frustrating. I have a very strong and consistent network signal both ethernet & wi-fi in addition to a consistent provider connection. I have tried the remote's "Prioritzed Link" in both On & Off modes and it does not improve the issue either way.

4- Remote Hard Buttons refuse to function. This occurs with the Channel Up/Down (or page up/down depending on the equipment  menus), Arrows Up/Down/Left/Right. The volume control has performed flawlessly & is not effected by this hard button lock up. Usually the hard button lock up occurs during a series of repeated selections. Also, for clarify, the Hard button lock up occurs most frequently while using the DirecTV control within a recipe but can also occur on the LG OLEDTV & Oppo when using Neflix/Amazon fast forward/backward hard arrow buttons.

5- In all cases of performance failure I have tried all "original equipment remote controls" and all work flawlessly which in my opinion rules out my Home theater equipment as a factor.

It is my hope that one of your talented engineers will find a solution to these anomalies. Like many of your users I have a greater and faithful vision of Neeo's future capabilities, in so much as that it will eventually become a true "fully programable and customizable" universal remote that will eventually replace the Harmony and Pronto.

With all due respect my apologies for the lengthy reply, and keep up the good work!

When you say "re-acquiring the network signal" can you elaborate more on what this means? Does this mean that you went into the NEEO app settings and re-did the WiFi setup or something else?

Also, when you say "totally rebuilding of my recipes" does this mean that you simply deleted them and re-added them or did you perform a full brain reset using the NEEO app?

In regards to your NEEO Remote, have you attempted the recovery mode? I look forward to your response and I am very confident we can get your NEEO system up and running like before :).

      Thanks!

Jeff Yes, I redid the wi-fi setup. Yes, I totally deleted all recipes & rebuilt them. Yes, I have done a brain reset! Please clarify “recovery mode”! The only options on the remote are “reload” & “upgrade”. The only option available on the “app” is “Prioritize NEEO Link”. I have tried all of these options.

Michael Duke Please try these steps and let me know if they help with the NEEO Remote issues you are experiencing:

      1. Hold the power button on the NEEO Remote for 15 seconds

      2. Wait a few seconds

      3. Press the power & mute button simultaneously for a few seconds

      4. You should see the option for recovery, follow the on-screen steps

When was the last time you performed a full brain reset and rebooted your router? Was it after the 0.48.35 update or did you perform a brain reset after the 0.49.10 update? If you have not performed a reset on the brain after the 49.10 update, I suggest rebooting your router > perform NEEO Brain reset > when its back online perform the recovery on the NEEO Remote.

      Thanks!

Jeff I have given the Neeo remote a months worth of testing after the recommended fix and I can confirm that the issue of "freezing/hanging" is still evident but not as often. As outlined in my original post the same DirecTV transport slide features, the soft icons "30 Sec jump forward & 10 Sec jump backwards" are the main culprits in initiating a "freeze", as well as the channel/page hard selector. Additionally, the random restarts occasionally occur. All these issues occur at least once per day and sometimes as often as three times per day during remote use.

It is my suspicion this is a hardware issue such as overloaded memory. All my network connections are solid and reliable, pairing with the Brain takes milliseconds, and the remote is only 8 feet away from the Brain location.

I did not want to post this here but the latest firmware release 0.50.6, which was suppose to be a two click operation, took me ten attempts to complete. It kept telling me I had to retry. Eventually I had to switch on the "Prioritze NEEO Link" within the phone app. (so much for easy firmware updates).

You have the potential for a great product but there needs to be more thorough testing before releases and there is a possibility I have a hardware issue.

If you have any other suggestions your insight would be appreciated.

Michael Duke Thank you for the update. Can you please confirm the Directv make and model you own and which you one added to NEEO? I have the DirecTv Genie and Mini Genie. I watch recorded shows and fast forward and rewind frequently when watching these shows. I am yet to experience any freezing/hanging as you're describing.  However, you are stating that its the 30 sec jump forward and 10 sec jump backward. Are these added specifically as shortcuts or are you using the fast forward buttons? When you press the fast forward button once, it will skip ahead slowly and continue to increase as you keep pressing it.

In regards to your unit not updating, this can take several hours or even days for the unit to receive the update. What you can try is rebooting the NEEO Brain, but even then it's not guaranteed that the Brain will receive the update immediately. NEEO Link has no effect on your brain receiving the update, this was simply coincidental.

      Thanks!

Jeff Make & Model = DirecTV HR44/500; Device added to recipe = Directv HR44-500 Version 29. The problem does not occur with the fast fwd & reverse, I rarely use those. The soft icons (30 sec Jump fwd & 10 sec Jump backwards) are a default in the DirecTV controls slide they are not shortcuts. See image below:

The freeze will also occasional happen with the "CH" hard button when it is used as a page up/down in DirecTV or the Netflix & Amazon app.

There is also the issue of the remote re-booting itself during usage. Very frustrating!!

Regarding the update, the Brain appeared to update just fine but when asked to perform the update to the remote that is where the problem occurred. My success may have been coincidental but it worked!

Jeff A video is not necessary to explain the routine. The purpose of the "30 sec Jump fwd" soft button is to be able to bypass commercials on the recorded programs. In my case the average commercial is 3-4 minutes in length. By tapping the "30 sec Jump fwd" soft button 6 or 8 times "repeatedly", one can then skip the commercial completely. The repeated tapping is where the remote freezes. The speed of the tapping doesn't seems to matter. I have tried slowing this process down but the remote will still randomly freeze. Similar behavior with the "10 sec Jump backwards" soft button.

As I had mentioned previously the Neeo's performance has been inconsistent since update 0.48.35! Prior to this update there were no freezes or random reboots of the remote, all soft & hard buttons worked as intended.

I don't use the 30 sec skip, but I use the fast-forward button. I used the skip 30 sec and back 10 sec soft buttons and my remote did not freeze or restart. The video will show me how you are using it that triggers the restart.

    - Change Background for each Screen (or how you call them "Slides")
    - Change the Font-Type
    - Arrange the Icons on each Slide
    - Rename (or remove) the Name of the Icons
    - Change the Icons with custom-icons
    - Assign commands to the hardware-buttons

Is there anybody out there who can let me know how to do that?

imo is just hide a screen far awy from fully customizing.

what you can do is hide the auto generated slides and make some custom slides. so you can make screens your own way. just create a new shortcut slide and then take your icons or widgets the way you want.

you can not change font or font size, neither you can rename or remove icons form auto generated slides. the same with custom icons..

you can assign commands to the hardware buttons when you change settings in a auto generated recipe. you can just add a device you don't even own to do a new recipe, then you can set everything you like.

if you need some help to do that, just let me know.

      have a good day.

You cannot make some custom slides or a new shortcut slide, you can only use the shortcut slide we always had to create one single custom slide.

You can also not assign hardware buttons with this firmware upgrade.

you are getting more then one screen if there is no more space on the first one. in this case i added some buttons on the first screen wich i use often. the other ones are on the next slide, so you have more then one slide. what is not possible in my opinion is to have a 3rd slide in between of the two custom slides.. never tried that..
but in my case it works really good. i need slides just for TV, all other recipes are fine the way they are generated.

    • nuro Thanks for this hints. I tried this right now. It works so far so good. If I also could change names, icons and backgrounds it would be come closer to show it to my wife :-)

      I already voted for that

    • Dave H nuro Jeff yes, talking about the app, never occurred to me to check whether this is different on the remote ... I checked and indeed it gives multiple slides on the remote! Thanks!

Frank Montanaro Nicolas Philippe Peter Boeijen maybe you figured this out in the meantime ... if not, behaviour of the app and remote is different for the shortcut page. So while on the app you need to scroll down on the shortcut slide, you get multiple slides on the remote.

    • Geert Van Der Linden Yep, but this behavior isn´t something new, happened before this firmware update as well.

    • Geert Van Der Linden I haven't messed much with the shortcut screen other than adding some inputs and the "netflix" button (which doesn't work). The "internet app" button just presents me with a black screen, and then once I'm in these apps the power doesn't even work.

I still have the input issues above regarding the on-screen keyboard as well. Don't know if Jeff or Michael Vogt have anymore news on that.

    • Dave H That leads to an interesting suggestion: Why not add vertical scrolling? Of course we'd still want horizontal scrolling between different screens, but if a screen is extended vertically, then a well-chosen layout would allow the user to position the screen in a vertical position suitable for the current effort.

nuro Did you ever hear of "K.I.S.S."? The solutions you have presented are taking the long road to the requests to have "ALL" screens, Icons, positioning, vertical swipe & labels customizable. The root of the issue as I see it is that the Base programming will not allow, but should allow, full customization to the users discretion. Keep it stupid simple!! I don't mean to be crude but customizable should be simple and not add round about solutions to what is obvious. Take a hard look at the old Pronto remotes and you will see "every thing" was customizable!!

nuro You shouldn't! You missed the point about simplicity & full customization.

It will be a glorious day indeed for NEEO when it passes that test :-)
