NEEO launches NEEO PRO

Dear all,

We are here in San Diego, Southern California at the CEDIA trade show. Today we will announce NEEO for the PRO-channel (installation professionals). This is exciting news and a big moment for NEEO! I’m writing this post because I wanted you to be the first to know and I want to make sure all questions you possibly have around the launch of NEEO PRO are answered.

Here is a quick overview of what we are launching today:

The NEEO PRO version is featuring even more powerful hardware and a whole set of PRO-channel specific software. Some highlights are the admin interface for installation professionals to maintain systems of any size remotely. Another highlight is the announcement of the Multi-Brain feature. This allows integrators to build systems of any size. Thanks to its architecture there is – compared to the traditional control systems - no single point of failure.

NEEO PRO is compatible with over 60,000 devices (same database as every NEEO). With the launch of NEEO PRO, numerous integrations for the professionals are being announced. Some highlights, such as Kaleidescape, Lutron & Control4, are on demo at the NEEO booth #2840 at CEDIA 2018.

What’s changing for the ‘Consumer’ version of NEEO?

In a few words - things are growing faster and everyone will benefit from it. We have extended the team to accomplish this new line of products. Many of the features developed for the PRO version will also make their way into the consumer version or will at least unlock new possibilities. One great example is the Multi-Brain system. Whilst it was designed to ideally cover the PROs needs - we are happy to announce that we will make a free consumer version of this available for everyone with the coming firmware release!

Where do you sell NEEO PRO?

NEEO PRO is exclusively offered via our network of authorized dealers. It’s important for us to create a healthy environment for all of our partners and all NEEO users. All the leads for NEEO PRO that come in are forwarded directly to the dealers who all get additional customers that way to grow their businesses healthily. We are also making sure every authorized dealer is well trained, so everyone has the right tools and gets the best experience possible.

Win a NEEO PRO today!

To celebrate the launch of NEEO PRO we are giving away two units. The best part - installation is included. Drink a beer and enjoy the included popcorn while the NEEO certified installer gets your brand new unit ready.

Winning is easy: Simply post at least one comment within the next 48h on Planet NEEO and make sure you have a complete Planet NEEO profile. Any comment counts, it does not have to be NEEO PRO specific.

Alternatively, you can participate in this contest by simply following our brand-new Instagram @NEEO and posting any type of comments. We will announce the winner here on Planet NEEO shortly. Good luck!

This is it for today. Wish me good luck. I will now go to the show floor and will unveil the NEEO PRO. A bit nervous, but very proud of what the team came up with!

  • Hello NEEO team,

Can you give posts numbers (e.g #1,2,3,,.........450) Why? This helps to reduce your data base by one not replicating what has been posted before but one can refer to a previous post.

Now here is my point : am trying to have a discussion with Fonzo which should be important to everyone but being overlooked because everyone just skips to post comments about the main topic (NEEO Pro) but miss the discussions 😕 Our subtopic is about how CEC works!

I detailed him how I connect my devices using the AV Amp as the master controller for CEC connections. Even the NEEO is connected to the AV Amp! But now he is not happy on how to connect the PS4.

What I dig from his posts is that what he wants to emphasize is that "wireless" is best when it comes to a Connected Home (IoT) 😕 but I think otherwise. I don't use ir or Bluetooth in my setup and WiFi is only for the iPAD and the other mobile devices. NEEO should implement their CEC driver as a general driver but not cater for individual devices! How : they should steal an idea or two from these guys here :  KWIKWAI

Now to finish off this topic, here is an interesting video of a connected home : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azNK_Tgkb30

The video also helps to explain what is PRO and BASIC 😲

Emmanuel Serebe perhaps you misunderstood me. Standard in IOT is a bus or Network. You can see also in the video how many wires are there.  All these wires are all network cables. So first Choice is always to connect a device via bus like KNX or LCN or via network. But HDMI is not for long distance, if you go over length about 10m you need optical hybrid HDMI witch are really expensive. That’s way I would allways prefer a network connection. Every professional integrator who wants to sell me a cec Solution has no idea of homeautomation, I imho would send him home.

    • Fonzo You are entirely wright in this post👍 My initial thought was that your argument was about Bluetooth vs HDMI-cec as most users here would most understand because they have small set ups. But building a fully fledged Home Automation system one must consider everything but not bash one technology against there thus always use the "right tool" for the job at hand. What you mentioned above can also be acheaved if you use the right tools.

Now check out these devices here : Pulse Eight. You have to do your homework on their devices. They maybe not the best out there but a good search along those lines.

And to expand more on how devices can better be controlled over the network like you mentioned above is to add in other servers like Node-RED  and MQTT and let the magic flow!

    • Emmanuel Serebe that video is showing some important things regarding HA in an easy to follow way.. Funny thing is that I’m allready doing more than they show by just using NEEO and homey. You don’t even need to be extremely technical either. If you buy something new then check upfront weather or not you want integration and what products do support that for the system you’re using. Like the video showed, not all devices have open API’s. What I typically do is check if it’s supported allready within my setup or someone was already able to write some code. If so then I can use it.

Just withing that Pro version has OLED-display. It would be awesome!

    • Onni Manninen  I don't know if OLEDwould be a good option.  The screen has static images most of the time and OLED is notorious for burn in.  Even my 1 year old phone has burn in already.

    • Frederik Vancoillie Not the same thing. Remote display is on in daily basis only quite short period of times. Only when you keep it in your hands screen is on and when still display turns off after couple of seconds for longer battery life. I think that total display time is on only couple of minutes on every day (in average usage).

Of course there is also different ways to minimize burn in effect.

In my opinion OLED screen and backlit buttons would seal the “king of the hill” status and ultimate premium appearance. Don’t get me wrong: I love NEEO and it is the most beautiful remote I have ever used, those two things are just little tweaks to make it even more beautiful. :-)

    • Onni Manninen To each his own I guess.  My remote is used in the living room and when it's in the couch it moves constantly and is lit up constantly too.

I have had 2 phones now with Oled screens that had major burn in, had an LG Oled TV that had burn in after 5-6 months of usage (luckily the store gave me a refund at their store so I could get a Samsung Lcd)

After all these Oled shananigans, I'm done with the technology and gladly stick with LCD till they solve these issues with OLED.

  • Raphael  Sorry to say that .. But NEEO sucks. You proised a lot of things. Most of them should work since NEEO has been released. Now you promised more frequent updates ... Since three months I didn't heard anything from NEEO ... what's worng?

From a Product in Beta-Stage like NEEO I expact at least every two weeks a Update until the product is ready for the market.

Andreas Coradi Totally agree, I have to confess...

Almost 3 months with no sign of live from NEEO ;-\
At least you should post a short update now and then to keep the community somewhat happy.

Since using NEEO my Sonos has become more 'instable' than before/ever and basic things are still not possible (shuffle play, sleep timer etc.; things that even my unofficial 'Zonos' app on windows phone could manage perfectly) and unfortunately my about 10 years old Logitech Harmony, that has costed not half, still seems to be smarter ;-(

Please give us at least some cookies like the time being displayed at the top of the screen or some crumbles like what is next on your roadmap...

  • I’m also one very disappointed buyer of the remote. Still a lot specification that are missing from demo videos that were showed in the beginning. Instead you wanna launch a new product before making the first one completed. And over three months with no updates and very unstable remote. My remote reboots and sometime stop working loosing WiFi every second day. It’s not my WiFi that causes this. Lack of Bluetooth and hand recognition. Lack of customization of hardware buttons and display buttons.

    A total disaster investment.

  • Raphael Now it's 3 months since you posted the NEEO Pro post and notething visibale happend. Of course, I didn't expect that something changes - you have told it to us so often and notething happend ... please surprise us with some updates.

It would be so nice when there are some updates and improvements ... like the simple actual time thing on the remote.

  • I've been at CES this week, and see no sign of Neeo on the official trade show floors or at any of the related events at other venues around Las Vegas. (The first time I saw Neeo was at a CES-related event three years ago.) Not encouraging for the future of a home theater remote control maker.

    • Steveeo it‘s correct that we decided not to do a booth at CES this year (it’s a huge investment of time and money. We are planning to exhibit at ISE in Amsterdam though next month as this is the more efficient show for us. Hope you enjoyed crazy Vegas ;)

    Obviously not then.

I think the title "NEEO launches NEEO PRO" is a demotion when the product hasn't actually launched and has no updates. This could take another 4 years maybe?

Im told Control4 will be updating their UI and remote this year (finally) so unless this is a collaboration effort NEEO could miss a huge opportunity here IMO

InHome Media As someone who has almost certainly installed NEEO remotes in your client’s homes, how do you and your clients feel about the discontinuation of the NEEO product line? I find the total silence from NEEO’s partner companies such as OneAV and HDAnywhere very odd indeed.

Do you think the person who told you about this realised at the time that it would be the NEEO team working on the new Control4 remote at the expense of the NEEO remote? After all, it was only a short time before the acquisition news was announced.

Dillon Moulder Crazy news I know. Raphael told me on the phone well over 6 months ago about the Control4 integration, it was a few weeks before the big US based CES tech show that made the news public for NEEO Pro. So that was well before the Control4 admittance to a new remote but I suspect Control4 have been looking into the acquisition from at least the point of the CES show. How long before a signed deal and public news release I couldn't comment but absolutely if the Control4 person hinted at a new remote (& UI) in 2019 so it was certainly a done deal by that point I would say (*legal disclaimer - I'm only speculating!).

Regarding the client install, luckily for us it was only one room in one home that we installed it! (wipes brow of forehead) Apart from our own site setup which worked fine.

It cost us far too much time (£££) to make it work at our clients, so we had no further involvement from that point until the horizons were much clearer. Given my posts Raphael actually phoned me to apologise and said NEEO would be happy to contribute towards our incurred costs but this obviously never happened, so there will always be some sourness towards NEEO in the respect of false promises (NEEO's overriding mantra).

Not that Raphael will be concerned about any of this as I imagine he and any direct investors will be handsomely rewarded with Control4's new acquisition! (I figured Control4 would do this as it's a fairly standard exercise now). It really is a bitter pill for any crowd funders and early adopters so I feel for them entirely :(

On the plus side for my business, Control4 finally get a NEW REMOTE!!! The biggest issue in the system has been the 1990's old school remote so this is fantastic news... However, Im not holding my hopes too high for a speedy release!

A few more buttons would be nice too. The NEEO was too simplistic for daily use I found, trying to be a simple 6 button Apple TV remote doesn't work for multi-purpose use. But adding the Control4 button and a few basic use buttons will extend this remotes capabilities to the moon

InHome Media Thanks for sharing this information. It’s good to hear a dealer/installer’s point of view, and your experience with NEEO over-promising and under-delivering seems all too familiar. Since I very much doubt more than a handful of users on Planet NEEO can afford a full Control 4 setup in their homes, there really aren’t any positives that I can see resulting from this acquisition.

      Dillon Moulder  Your welcome :)

I agree that for the average NEEO purchaser the Control4 acquisition will totally stink unless Control4 do something kind to ease the pain of those caught up in this. 24 months of support before potentially it's an unusable product really is diabolical! IMO it should be illegal, products should have minimum life expectancy of 5yrs, ideally 10! - save the planet!!.

We saw the same thing with Revolv when bought out by Nest. I believe some form of refund was made available but not sure if thats much consolation for the people who invested time and money into its early stages! Seems that crowd funding id a bit like being an angel investor without the reward when big companies buy in!

Hopefully Control4 will get inventive and somehow keep a consumer level version out there with full support. It could be a nice introduction/lead into Control4, a little taste of whats possible. Done right it could even help with product drivers, allowing non dealers to code new devices. I mentioned this in one of the threads that having unofficial driver/IR learning from the general public uploaded into a database would be a potential goldmine of data for NEEO. Who could then tweak and make official as required. We can only hope :)

  • Be aware that NEEO Pro will not happen as it was announced here, it's going to be even better. Read this blog post for more information.

    • Patrick even better? Seriously? First get the consumer NEEO out of beta and give it the functions it needs to at least keep functioning. Then call it a day and apologise you didn’t deliver on all the features people were promised at launch. Seems like the only halfway decent exit strategy to me.

  • I have to weigh in also with a sigh of disappointment with the other users here that are saddened by the lack of expansion and control that this fabulous remote was supposed to afford us....  I have recently purchased a CAAVO and right out of the box I am able to control more units that my highly touted, “top of the line, better than anything out there in the world” NEEO Black Cat........  you guys should be embarrassed!
