Newbie Question & Complaint

I've just got my Neeo and have set it up with the basics. I have newbie question and a very early complaint.

Q)

Can you set which of the screen displays a recipe goes to when a recipe runs? EG when I run my Humax box recipe I want it to automatically go to the transport button screen but at the moment it goes to the favourites screen. Longer term I would want a combination custom screen with both, but if I can't make it land on that screen as default it would not be as usable.

Complaint)

I have searched for re-programming the hard buttons and see it has been requested many times over the years but apparently still not implemented. In my Humax STB for example I never use channel up and down so would use those buttons for skip forward and back which I use regularly. Hard  buttons must be the primary use buttons for day to day use IMO. If that feature is not going to be available soon then my Neeo will simply go back under the 30day refund policy. There is simply no excuse on a remote with limited hard buttons to not have them fully customisable. I could not believe they weren't already.

Yes you can change them, you need to go to the App Manu, then select Recipes, press next, then press on the applicable recipe and select customize slides.

The default slide is the upper one, you have also indications if the slide is used at the remote only or on the remote or app.

A "new Slide" can be created via the Shortcut section of each recipe, you can use the shortcuts of each device to create a custom slide, when one side is full, it automatically build a new side.

    Complaint:

this is h heavily wished feature, but it has some issues with the programming. This feature will come, but there is no dedicated timeline for it. The first step that will be coming is to rename all shortcuts and such things, as mentioned in an other topic from the neeo team.

I will pull in Jeff and Ingrid to inform the NEEO Team about your concerns. Maybe they will contact you again. Do not Hesitate to ask more Questions or if you need Help.

I can't find customise slides anywhere. I've followed your instructions but the option isn't there. I did another firmware check (I did so immediately but it told me "Last Check was a minute ago" and "no update available")  I'm on 0.45.11 - which I now know isn't the latest as I've seen reference to a 0.49. version . Is there a way to force the update? Oh hang on - as I type it's just come up with a new version available. It's been on for a good few hours now, how can it take that long to find new firmware? And worse tell you do are up to date when you aren't? Although I appreciate you are a relatively new company and product, this is a very expensive item and I must say my initial experience isn't great so far :-( Hopefully with the latest firmware things will improve.

    • Geoff T I don't work for NEEO, I'm also just a user.

To declare your issue: you run into annother known bug. The Brain checks for new firmware 4-6 times a day, if the firmware is downloaded completely and the checksum is OK. It gives you the new software side.

Sometimes the firmware checksum is not ok and the Brain restart the download but that is only starting at the next check.

You can force a download and check when repowering the device once initial setup is done.

Markus Mahr Sorry Markus, I presumed you did work for Neeo, I can see from your tab now that you don't.

The firmware has updated now and I can get to the customize slides page now.

      Thanks again for your help

  • Hi Markus.

Thanks for the quick response. OK I will have a play with the slides options that sounds good.

With regard to the buttons, I just know that having to use a screen button for fast forward and rewind for example is nothing like as tactile and responsive as a hard button. It was one of my concerns before getting the Neeo that it didn't have enough hard buttons (I thought it could do with hard transport buttons too to be ideal) , but I did expect them to be customisable.

    • Geoff T Fast forward and rewind are often mapped to the hard keys but it is device specific. My DVR, for example, a Channel Master DVR+ has fast forward (1 min) and rewind (1 min) to the hardkeys but 10sec fast forward and rewind are mapped to the transport screen icons. If your device (a DVR or something else that needs fast forward) list your device and reference Andy with the issue.

I don't think my device is mapped incorrectly. The channel up and down buttons do work as intended, as do all of the transport buttons on the screen. My issue is that I use the skip forward transport button all the time (to skip ads) but hardly ever use the channel up and down so I would prefer to customise them that way. My cheapo JP1 universal remote can be programmed so that any button performs any function at a tenth of the price of the Neeo, so I was disappointed to find that functionality isn't there (yet).

    • Geoff T The FF RW is normally found when you press the right or left side of the ring button (think the circular ring between the Vol and CH buttons)

Ah, that's very interesting. I've just tried that and they do indeed give some sort of FF and Rewind but only in very small increments and I have to be in pause first before they work. The ones I use a lot are the skip forward and skip back. They are programmable in the Humax to a user set number of seconds. If they could be mapped to the left and right ring buttons I'd be a lot happier. Are you saying that Neeo can do this as a sort of custom code?

    • Geoff T Typically they don't do custom codes but they will make adjustments if they think its beneficial to all the device users,  in this case your particular Humax device. Best bet is to contact Andy.

Thinking about it a bit more, it wouldn't work anyway. Because the "ring" buttons are used for navigation within the menu structure as well, it must be within my Humax itself that the left and right buttons "become" rew/ff in playback mode. So even if  customisation of those were possible in the Neeo it would stop the navigation working.

    • Geoff T You can check if the Ring or the Channel buttons can hav a "long press action" means: if you hold down one of the keys then a second function is called e.g. skip fwd.

Maybe Andy can have a look and check if this is possible with one of the dedicated buttons on your device or if all are allready used. (mostly menu has a second function implemented.)

Remapping is not yet possible but is definitely planned.

I'm afraid you are right. We cannot change the mapping to the cursor buttons. This would break the navigation. Thanks for understanding!

Forgive me for being cynical, but having spent my few days of ownership reading this forum, something being "planned" doesn't seem at all likely to become something that actually exists any time soon. Even getting a returns label for my remote is going to take 5 to 7 working days apparently. It seems to me that what takes a few minutes on Planet Earth, takes a week on Planet Neeo.
