Technicolor UIW4001

I recently received all new set top boxes from my cable provider. I'm not seeing it in the db. Can you add it, or suggest a generic one to use? Thanks

    • Edward Zwart HI, I'm very sorry I can´t find your device. Could you please try if that one works for you: Technicolor USW4001NCP? If not, could you please send me a screenshot of your device model number and brand? Thank you very much.

  • Not sure who to tag, so I'll just tag you both Ingrid Andy

I use the Slimline 2 remote (on the right) seen below.

The bottom right button (Options) doesn't have a corresponding function in the driver for this device (Telus UIW4001).

I actually use the same remote for another device (Telus VIP5662W (Alt. Power)), whose driver does have a "ZOOM" function which happens to map to the Options button!

Can you add the OPTIONS function to the UIW4001 (and maybe rename the ZOOM on the VIP5662W, although less important).   Thanks!

Also, I created this here just to keep UIW4001 stuff together. If you'd rather I open a new thread please let me know.

  • Ingrid A request and a question...

If you look at the remotes above, the one on the right... I would like to know if it's possible to have an implementation of the "Back/Exit" button.  I've tried the various likely candidates in the existing list of functions available, but none work like the button on the remote ("go back one screen/cancel out of the current menu choice").

Also, I've noticed that in general the shortcuts for this device (the only shortcuts I use) are sometimes very unresponsive, and often cause the remote to freeze up for a few moments, and then restart itself.  I'm wondering if this requires device-specific attention, or if I should expect performance improvements when other shortcut improvements are released?  I'll open a new thread for this issue if appropriate.  In another ticket with a similar issue I saw a request for the NEOO brain hostname, so I'll include it here: NEEO-80588d6c

    Thanks for your attention.

    • Edward Zwart Hi, thank you for your feedback. The team will check the commands.

In regards to your unresponsive shortcuts, could you please check that the NEEO Brain is in line-of-sight with your Technicolor. Do you have the same experience when using the NEEO app?

Regarding Back/Exit - please test the following Live IR Test. Let me know which command is the correct one. Thanks!

The Live IR Test works the following way:

      1. Navigate to the Settings Menu in your NEEO app.
      2. Navigate to NEEO Brain.
      3. Click on "Live IR Test".
      4. Enter into the text field the following code: I6BvnXeiBm
      5. Test the commands

      Thanks for testing!

Ingrid It is in line of sight. But even if it wasn't, it wouldn't explain the crashing, right?  When I use the app, I also get unresponsiveness but no crashes.

Andy I think the button on the remote is doing double duty.  Sometimes it's 'backs out' of a menu selection, sometimes it 'exits' out of the menu entirely.  Said another way, I think it knows if you are on a sub-screen, in which case it backs out, but if you are on a main/principal screen, it exits out.

As for your IR test buttons, EXIT only ever does a complete exit, so if I browse to recordings, pick a recording, edit its details, and then click EXIT, I go back to live TV (the entire menu is exited).  If I click BACK, nothing happens.  So, it could simply be a job of making that button work.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can do any other tests. Thanks.

As we have no other possible BACK button, would it be possible for you to send us the original remote? Where are you located?

    • Edward Zwart No, I think you are right, that wouldn't explain the freezing. Also, thank you very much for your hostname. Did you ever have this experience with other devices and shortcuts as well?

Could you please post a picture of the About screen of your NEEO Remote?

Ingrid I don't really use shortcuts with other devices (yet).  The reason I notice it on the shortcuts for my set top box is because I use the forward button on the "transport scan" widget to blast through a series of commercials on a program I have recorded, so I'm wanting to tap the button six or seven times or more in quick succession.  The results I'm getting are intermittent.  Sometimes 2 or even 3 rapid taps will all work in a row. Other times, there is a variable number of unsuccessful taps between successful ones.  So the result is I'm having to tap many more times than the number of 30-second jumps I want to make.

I'm sure some part of the explanation is "widget affordance" meaning, my finger does not hit the widget precisely enough each time.  You might call this "user error" :) but I might call it poor UI affordance (it would be nice if the screen worked as well as my phone in this regard, but I realize that may be too much to ask).

Anyway I know the issue is also very much the widget itself because when I have many unsuccessful taps, and I am tapping dozens of times to get through five minutes of commercials, I am looking at the remote and seeing that the widget is sometimes blanking out on the remote screen (or just greying out), and then it comes back, and goes away again, etc..  It's obviously working hard (too hard) and failing, so it's not *just* poor UI affordance.  And of course, there's the fact that the whole remote then freezes/dies/restarts sometimes.

Great! Best would be to send them to the US office. But at the moment, they are very occupied with CEDIA. I would recommend to not send it before next week.

      The address:

      NEEO Inc.
      20432 Silverado Ave #215
      95014 Cupertino
      Unites States

      Many thanks!

The remote has arrived at the US office, they have learned the codes and I have just added them. The new data appears around 7PM CET. Please update your device. Let me know if everything works, we'll send the remote back as soon as you have confirmed all is fine. Thanks!

Andy I checked, and it works. Fantastico! Thanks to you and the US team folks.

Question: Is there some way I can capture the actual codes myself? Some device or other I could point my remote at that would give me the same info you can get? Just curious. It could possibly save mailing if needed in the future.

Please excuse my very late response!

It's not very easy, but most user friendly possibility would be the learner called IRToy and the software IRScrutinizer. Let me know if you would like to get them. I'll send you a tutorial on how to use it. You would still have to send me the codes after learning.
