Stuck on 'Add Device'

Neeo came in today and began setup in one of my smaller rooms just to make sure I could get it working before interrupting my family in the main room. Installation went smooth and added an LG tv. Performed firmware update and still no issues. Played around with recipes and everything was great. I then moved Brain to what would be its final location. I then deleted the LG tv because I did not plan to use it. I started getting errors and connection issues, so I thought if I just started from the beginning it would be no problem since it was so easy the first time around. I performed the reset through the app and it has been all downhill from here.

I have deleted the neeo app, rebooted brain, rebooted network, and finally factory reset my entire network. Tried re-configuring my brain and seemed to have no issues until I got to the 'Add Device' screen. Now I can not find any devices including the original LG tv I added. Checked my admin tools from the network and still saw both a wired and wireless Neeo connection (after the factory reset, used the same SSID). I thought maybe this was the issue so I Mac address filtered out the wireless neeo connection. Still stuck on the add a device screen. Tried downloading the app on another phone and same issue. Not sure what to try next and fear I have royally screwed my brain up....

    • Aaron Ranson Did you were able to reenter the WiFi infromation after you perform the Reset to Factory Defaults? Is your NEEO Brain now connected to Wired and WiFi with the Internet? What is your NEEO Brains and Remotes FIrmware?

Sometimes the Search Database has trouble with the connection, but that should be indicated. I will add Patrick , he for sure will come back to this Topic, when he is in the office and can help you with more Informations regarding your Trouble. But it will help him, if you can answere the Questions above.

  • I believe I was able to re enter wifi info at some point. I am connected via Ethernet currently. I am no longer seeing a wireless neeo connection on my client list. I removed the MAC address from the Mac filtering so if it was connecting I figured it would have shown up again.

I am currently in rescue mode trying to download firmware again. Download log has not changed from 0% but it's only been around 15 minutes.

  • LOL, I guess I was so anxious to dig into neeo that I nuked my brain. Ok, enough tinkering for tonight and will wait to hear back from the team.

For what its worth, the little time I did experience neeo it was quite impressive!

Aaron Ranson You have somehow managed to bring your NEEO Brain into the rescue mode. What you now have to do basically is go through the three steps/buttons that are shown. Hit the first one to check which firmware is currently loaded, then download the new one, and once that is finished installing it.

Do I assume correctly that rebooting the NEEO Brain does not bring you out of this rescue mode?

I am in touch with our engineers already so we can solve that quickly.

Aaron Ranson When going through these steps, make sure to always wait until one is finished before clicking the next one.

Aaron Ranson I have just tried this myself, seems like the progress is not really show when downloading, but I got the confirmation of the download after about 15 Minutes. The installation then took about the same time again.

In the mode you are in your NEEO Brain should be blinking red, right? Once the installation of the firmware is finished, your NEEO Brain will boot again, once the LED is solid white again your NEEO Brain is ready to go. In the NEEO App, just hit "back", you should then find your NEEO Brain again.

      Patrick

Yes, brain was blinking red. I got up in the middle of the night and checked and it still showed 0% downloaded. When I woke up I noticed our power briefly went out at some point. The brain was blinking white at this point all morning. This lasted for around an hour before I had to leave. I quickly checked neeo app before I left and it couldn't find brain over the network. The white led never went to full solid. I will check again later this afternoon.

Aaron Ranson Well if that takes an hour to boot that is not normal. A blinking led usually indicates that the NEEO Brain is not ready, whereas a solid white means it is ready.

I propose that you unplug the NEEO Brain again and plug it back it, if it has not booted after ten minutes that is not OK. If you don't mind trying to go through the rescue mode again, please do so and try to get that firmware re-installed.

I am not exactly sure if your NEEO Brain has done a full reset or not, dependant on that you might have to plug it into ethernet to be able to connect the NEEO App.

If that doesn't work, let us know. We will then have a replacement sent to you.

Niels de Klerk Why do I have the feeling that you already tried? 😉

Patrick I was able to sneak away back home for a bit to work on this and seem to have everything working correctly finally. It was a bit of an ordeal though...

When I returned home, the white LED was still blinking. I then moved the brain back to the original room and LAN port I initially set it up the first time. I then created a completely new dedicated network that only my brain and phone could connect to. Powered brain into rescue mode and ran firmware update. success finally! (Also noted I could see the download progress change this time) Before attempting to setup neeo I shut down the dedicated network and moved the brain to its intended location and connected to the LAN port my PS4 uses (which I know works, ran a speed test earlier). Power up brain and once again continuous flashing white led and no connection through the neeo app.... Powered down NEEO and pulled out my 50ft cat5 and connected back to the original LAN port. Flashing white LED stops a few seconds after powering up and a flawless brain configuration with 'Add Devices' list populated again. This left me curious so I connected my PS4 back to the LAN port the brain failed to configure with and determined it was definitely functioning.

I'm not sure why but it seems my brain just did not want to cooperate with that LAN connection. Now that I am functioning I can finally begin to bother you with my functionality issues! Thank you for the quick responses Markus Mahr and Patrick . I have been looking forward to really digging into my Neeo.

    • Aaron Ranson have you enabled the DHCP in the second (main/PS4) network? Or did you assign ip addresses via the MAC of the Brain? If no DHCP is on and you want to set up the NEEO initially you need to cover 3 ip addresses for a fully operational unit. One for the rj45, one for wifi from brain and one for wifi from remote. And then you also need to be in the same network with your phone.

But actually the two different IP's are necessary to perform initial setup.

Maybe it helps! Always welcome, this place is to help each other. And to bring the NEEO further to success. Hope you enjoy Urlaub unit.

Markus Mahr yes, dhcp was enabled. I could see the assigned ip's for the neeo devices in the client list. A mystery to me! 🤔

Aaron Ranson  Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. We will make use of this information to improve the rescue mode, we are aware that this is not straightforward yet.

Sorry for that bad getting started experience. As Markus Mahr said, we are here to help, don't hesitate if you have any further questions.
