Volume up and down via Onkyo AVR

Hi,

I have a another problem:
- Sony TV via HDMI on Onkyo AVR

-Telekom Entertain Receiver 401

I set the recipe to use the volume of the Onkyo AVR. But it always try to raise up the volume at the Telekom 401.

I can switch the TV channels via the remote at the Telekom 401. But I can´t raise up the volume at the Onkyo AVR.

I tried to start again the brain and remote, but it doesn´t work at all.

Can you help me?

Thanks for your feedback! Please send me screenshots of the recipe steps. Also, try if the AVR volume commands work if you add them as shotcuts. Thanks!

I'm sorry, I did not see your reply. Please always add Andy . Anyway, the recipe looks fine. Did you test the commands on the shortcut screen? Thanks!

It works via commands on the shortcut screen. But NOT with commands via the hardware buttons. That is really sad, because I can´t use the hardware keys in TV mode as well.
    Any ideas?

This sounds like a hardware defect. Do the volume buttons work for no device at all, no matter which device you try or is configured as volume device in the recipe steps? In the TV recipe, is there the TV or the AVR configured as volume device in the recipe steps? Please make sure that the hardware buttons never work. In this case we'll replace you remote.

Oh, in the other recipes the buttons work well.

For example: Apple TV. Volume up and down at the Onkyo AVR via hardware buttons. No problem.

They just don´t work in TV mode. Yes, in TV mode the AVR is configured as the volume device (see the screenshot some post above).

This is very strange. But at least this means your remote is fine and it's definitely not a hardware defect. All I can think right now, is to re-add the devices. This is a lot of work though. Before you re-add the devices, are you 100% that you have added one AVR only?

  • Hello,

i am not sure if this is related or not but I as well have an onkyo nr 636 receiver and every time I press the up volume on the remote the volume drops back down. I use the iOS NEEO app with no issues. I use the original receiver remote with no issues. If I am navigating left and right through the menus an Apple TV it also drops the volume. On some instances without even touching the remote the volume will drop the volume all the way down. Pretty much the remote is unusable when it’s on and besides the volume issues being erratic the screen does not turn off and is always on (battery last less than a day).  I have removed all of the devices and set them up again with no luck. I have rebooted the remote and re synced it with the base with no luck either.

This sound very strange and is not related to the issue above.

Please add the volume buttons to the shortcut screen and test them from there.

For all other issues, there are two possibilites:

      - There is a known bug that can mix-up all codes and wrongly map the buttons. When the buttons work on the shortcut screen and don'tn interfere with each other, it may be this bug. In this case, delete all devices and re-add them. This ususaly solves this.

      - Or it could be related to a problem with infrared. The Apple TV and the Onkyo AVRE may share some codes. This is not very uncommon. Because of this we offer the drivers "Onkyo GENERIC_AVR_2_IR_ADDRESS_2" and "Onkyo GENERIC_AVR_3_IR_ADDRESS_3". If you use one of these sets, they should not interfere anymore. Plus, infrared is a light based communication Technic. This means some kind of lights and TV screens can cause such strange behavior like receiving commands without sending commands. Such extreme cases are very rare. When the volume was ramping down all the way, did you press a button on the Apple TV or the Volume button (shortly) on the AVR?

    • Andy hello, I have followed your steps to delete all devices and re add with no luck. I have also ultilized both generic drivers with no luck either. I did add the shortcut and that seems to work great, but unfortunately clunky to utilize. Now to be clear the issue with the volume quickly dropping down to zero happens in any input not just using the Apple TV device.

Another issue that was not addressed previously is the screen on the remote does not shut off and therefore dies within hours. I have reset the phone multiple times with no resolve

I'll forward this to the Dev team. To summarize it:
      - Everything works fine within the app on all screens.
      - Everything works fine if the commands are added to the shortcut screen.
      - Volume act's strange if the hard buttons on the remote are used only.

      Correct so far?
      Now, what I'm not sure:
      - If you press VOLUME UP, does the volume go up and then goes back?
      - Does the volume always ramp all the way down?
      - Does this happen with all devices, no matter if the AVR is involved?
      - Does it happen with Volume down, too?

Zammel Fernandez Hello! Thank you for reporting these issue with your NEEO Remote. Have you attempted a recovery on the NEEO Remote? If not, can you try the following:

      1. Hold the power button on the NEEO Remote for 15 seconds

      2. Wait a few seconds

      3. Press the power & mute button simultaneously for a few seconds

      4. You should see the option for recovery, follow the on-screen steps

      Thanks!

    •  Jeff Andy  the help is much appreciated, but I sadly report that the controller since the update is completely unresponsive. None of the screen and hard button inputs amount to any changes to the AVR, device, TV. On top of this the screen still does not turn off, which off the charger the remote last few hours tops. I have not used the remote now for weeks since I began reporting the issues. In the current state this remote is nothing more than a nice looking paper weight.

  • Andy not directly related, but also for onkyo. We I start recipe “radio” the onkyo turns on and internet radio starts (last one I need to do manual as neeo can not control the menu form onkyo it seems)

the the radio is on, but I can’t control the volume. I also don’t have a “turn off” option now.

    • Andy nevermind, had to add the step “show controls” . Then the button works.

other question. Can I set the neeo to in any status (also no recipe chosen) to have the volume buttons control the onkyo receiver volume. That’s a part I always need working the same.

Unfortunately, no. You'll have to choose the volume step for all recipe separately. And it will only control it if you are inside a recipe.
