Sonos Connect

Hi!

So I got an old Denon 1713 with nothing fancy but it works.
I'm planning to buy and add a Sonos Connect to my livingroom where my surround system is located. And where the Neeo is located - and connected - too. So this got me thinking:

How am I able to wake the receiver when I start playing music from the Sonos Connect?

I got in touch with Denon support which responded to me that the receiver have no "wake on signal" (toslink/digital in), so the receiver itself can't help me with this.

Would it be possible to auto start the Denon receiver when the Sonos Connect is being triggered? Is that possible with a recipe?

So the recipe for me would be triggered by Start Music on Sonos Connect:

  1. Turn on Receiver
  2. Set Receiver to Input "AUX"
  3. Set volume to "50"

..or something like that.

Would this be possible?

  • Pär If you launch the Recipe from your NEEO Remote this should be possible by editing the Sonos Recipe and add Power On AVR and switch inout to Aux.

For Power Off Sonos via NEEO this should work the same way, you need to add Power Off Denon then.

If you start music from the Sonos App, NEEO normaly also regognise that the Music was started, but i'm not confident if the Recipe was launched action will start. Therefor i would like to pull in Jeff Emily  and Ingrid to that. They should be able to declare this with the Developers and can hopefully provide an answere.

But if it is not yet possible, then this should be considered as Feature Request and with some parts in code this can be happen some day!

Markus Mahr quick response, I like that :)
So you're saying recipes are only triggered via the Neeo remote/app? I mean, a recipe should work backwards aswell, in my opinion. In this case, I of course am not using Neeo for everything in everyday occasions, but more as a convenient way of controlling my media from the sofa  and remove the 4 (four) remote controls I had before :) So in that way, Neeo is perfect.

But if it can't handle a simple Sonos request which triggers my Neeo recipe, that's just not good in any way, I'm sorry to say.

Ok so I'll wait for Jeff, Emily and Ingrid to see what they have to say about this :)

Cheers anyway for really rapid response anyhow!

    • Pär I don't say, that this is possible, but i don't have used it until now. I know, taht it is possible to get a recipe be available and triggered externaly. I saw some examples that work, but i don't know, if the recipe is only shown as active or if it is really activated like you do with your remote.

But maybe i can put together a quick test. Let me check!

      Markus Mahr Awesome!

    • Pär Ok, done the test. It is exaclty like is was saying. If you launch and Stop the Recipe from NEEO App / Remote, the step is done. If you start playing the Song from Sonos, the Power On will not be executed at the moment.

So, i consider this as an Bug and will mention it towards NEEO!

But maybe some of the Mentioned people did have an other idea how to archive the actual trigger of the Reciver when the Music playing not started from within NEEO.

Markus Mahr I'm not sure if it's considered as a bug; I mean, recipes isn't triggered by something else except the remote - nothing strange about that..? But I would definitely would consider this as a really extreme must-to-have to continue using the recipes being flexible and making Neeo worth having.

    • Pär I definitly see it as an bug, since i imagine to have a light show which provides sound lighting. And it should be started with each launch of the recipe, regardless of from which source i start the playing!

    Hey guys!  Markus Mahr Pär

I have Sonos at the office. If I trigger my Sonos via the Sonos app and then open the NEEO, my Sonos recipe was on via the NEEO Remote. The problem is I can't remember if I was on beta firmware or production 😫.

When I get back to the office I will confirm :).

    Thank you!

Jeff yes when I set my speakers to play music, they are visible as active units in Neeo, but not triggered by a recipe, no?

Pär Yes, that was the result I got when I began to play music directly from the Sonos app. The recipe was triggered in the NEEO app.

    • Jeff But:

It is only showed as active, no running of the edited Recipe was executed, means you are not able to trigger a light scenario or switch on the AVR when you like it. And this only happens, when you trigger the Sonos via Sonos app, or via Alexa or else. If you trigger Sonos from NEEO the recipe is triggered well and all steps are fully executed!

      Markus Mahr exactly my point!

Jeff I understand the Sonos is ”active” in Neeo when triggered somewhere else. But no recipe is triggered in Neeo when triggered somewhere else. If I understand it correctly..?

Markus Mahr Yes that is correct. I was only stating that the NEEO will identify Sonos as being triggered if accessed via the Sonos app :).

  • Hi All, here's my take.

So when you start the sonos activity using the NEEO remote is will start the AVR as part of the recipe. You might have to add the power commands manually but you get the point.

When you start to play music on sonos via the app then logically nothing happens on NEEO. You are able to automate this however.

Create a new recipe, and select Sensor Value changes.

Now Select your sonos device and the sensor Playing

    Select Turns On

Now add an action like Powering on the receiver:

    Hope this helps

Niels de Klerk This is brilliant! Looks exactly how I would like it! I wasn't aware of the Sensor Value Changes option. Cheers for that man! Any idea if this would apply to the Sonos Connect? It should, shouldn't it?

    • Niels de Klerk Wasn't aware of that. It is nice that Sonos is accepted as a sensor. Really helpfull!

Pär all Sonos devices are handled the same way, so yes, this should work with all the devices.

Sonos was implemented as an SDK device fully running on the Brain, and the API is available for all the Sonos devices the same way, regardless what device it is.
