Why is the software development so slow?

Love the product, but hate how so many functionalities the remote is missing or requires additional dependency for eg:- hdmi cable with cec support. Surely the remote is a keeper and one of the best-looking gadgets in my house.  Jeff and another of his team member was very helpful setting up the remote.

I was reading elsewhere on the forum that Neeo has a small development team hence all the delay.

Has Neeo ever considered outsourcing the software development work to an offshore cheaper location, most companies do that, and get the features implemented and then go about fixing the bugs and features with frequent releases.

Its kind of hard to digest that the product is out since over a year, and we are still in beta, and you guys are contemplating on bringing new hardware frequently *with neeo pro* released few months back, and another one down the line that might have support for control4?

I kinda agree with another poster here.. its a 400 dollar remote, we expect better from Neeo. My family is urging me to get the old Logitech back again.. I dont want to return the remote (as i recently brought it, and took me few days to set it up properly with half the functions missing though.) And I am hell bent on having them use Neeo. Now each time I get to keep the remote and the wife nags me.. is that why you got this remote? lol

  • Its very eye opening if you ask me to see that now NEEO starts to "archive" threads that are quote "not constructive". They ask the customers not to speculate totally ignoring that the money they get for their daily work is coming from us, the ones that bought the remote and now demanding the basic thing , error free device. At least that.

Normally if you have such a bad communication towards customer base its not by accident, most likely its purposefully. You can also see that in the "dancing around the bush" answers to specific questions.

Also, its the time of the year when everybody looks for a gift for their loved ones, daylight time is limited. Its the perfect time of the year to promote the remote , using topics like "having a cinema evening with the family" and so on.

I havent seen any advertising for NEEO at all using any of the available media platforms out there. When you re a company that makes its money over hardware sales of a premium product with a limited target market available , and lets face it strong competitors like Logitech, than you need to adress your potential buyers somehow. Your existing customer base is costing you money for support etc, okay maybe currently not much.

Way around would be to have a paid service for specific addons and functions, otherwise you would need to introduce new products on regular basis to get fresh funds into the company.

Professional installers might be a business case but not with the current lack of functionality and reliability if they face the same condition of the NEEO platform that consumers are currently dealing with.

Jeff please!  At least do bug fix updates more offen. Nothing is worse than us adopters trying to have our family use these devices only to be saddled with bugs that kee things from running smoothly!

  • My issue is that i’m tired of hearing that a software update is coming.  It’s been 6 months and the product has made no forward momentum (with exception of announcing a new pro model).

I still can't fully replace my harmony elite (and I really want to).

I write a lot of device integrations for Samsung smartthing's and get asked often if I would recommend moving from harmony to neeo and I have answer truthfully. It's a beautiful remote but the software is unfinished and doesn't allow for any customization.

I’ve been trying to think logically about the reasons behind the long delay in the software update.

The only thing I can think of is that all development focus has been on upgrading the software for the pro model.  Which will by extension allow for an easy port of all the customization features to our consumer model.

Anthony Santilli  exactly. Need more frequent bug fix and functionality updates. Save the “major” features.

My guess is the dev team is only a couple people and they prob have other jobs too. This isn’t their only focus. More time investment needs to spent on this. And the adopters like us that would be recommenders to others are losing the good faith ability to do so.

  • Matt B Anthony Santilli Sebastian Plattner I simply mentioned Multi brain as that is a prominent feature for us and many many people. We are always improving the software, just because I only said one specific element does not mean that is the ONLY feature and software enhancement our team is working on and will roll out in the next update.  Your patience and everyone else's is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    • Jeff Nobody ever inferred that is what you are saying.

What I'm trying to say is that there are other options nowadays and people no longer trust that companies will deliver on their promises.

I've had my remote for only 6 month's and haven't seen a single fix, let alone any new features...

It's hard to not have extreme doubts with that little activity.

While I can say I love how interactive your company is with it's customers.  In my mind actions speak louder than words.

Do you guys have a beta program?  I would love to be made wrong...

    • Anthony Santilli I am in the Beta Programm. But since the "Pro"-Annoucement it got way quiter in there. Before, there were more or less frequent Releases with small Fixes or new Features. But Progress is really slow... really not what I would expect.

Anthony Santilli We do have a beta team. I don't believe we are accepting new folks at the moment, but I will reach out and ask.

As  Sebastian Plattner all releases have been internal. I am pretty sure we will release a beta sometime soon.

  • It shouldn’t take me 6-8+ hours to set up eveything to make it work.

I Just bought a second brain and remote for a new room for consistency of other non techy users in the house. Brought me back to the pain of original set up and the fact I committed to this first unit Jan of 2015.

Matt B I can set up a single room in about 5 minutes. I am wondering if you are creating all your recipes from scratch or if you are going through the cable salad?

      Thanks,

  • Jeff I have also had several issues with this remote. You definatley helped a lot while setting up and connecting the brain with the devices, but none of my device work like the way usually universal remotes work. Not even half of it.

    Need your help and assistance.

You mentioned that an update is coming soon, I am anticipating that the update just does not focus on adding just a few devices and does include updates that benefits all the existing customers as a Whole.

Jamie Dimon Hi Jamie, can you tell me about your experience? What only works 50% of the time? I would also be happy to jump on a call and get this resolved much quicker.

      Thanks!
