Making Arris VIP2952 smart

I'm looking for a solution to make my Arris VIP2952 smart. I'm on to something but I can't make it work. The thing is that the settopbox is widely used by providers in the Netherlands under various names, so is the Motorola VIP1853 the same box as the Arris VIP2952. Now comes the curious part; the Motorola has a discrete on and off switch and the Arris only a power toggle. I added the Motorola and it did nothing but I'm anxious making it work. In general the settopbox can do both of the commands only KPN didn't provide them for the Arris.

can you help me  Andy

Thanks for your feedback! All these boxes are listening to different drivers because of different firmwares. That's why there is a discrete power for the Motorola that does not work for your model. The only way to smarten it up is when you find any command besides POWER TOGGLE that powers on the device.

A different situation with the arris vip2952 that the hard BACK button on NEEO doesnt do anything. Can you add this?

Power command - turn off your device, take your original system remote and test every button and see if any button does power on the device. E.g. the DIGIT buttons are sometimes powering on a device.

Back button - thanks for bringing this to our attention. We are going to fix this ASAP.

      Thanks!

    • Andy Well I dont think the device is meant to be off because it needs to be online/standby to record. The settopbox uses 5,4watts in standby and 5,8 in operating mode so i just leave it on. thanks for the back button!

Okay, agreed. I'm marking it as "Always on". This way you would get rid of the "stupid" screen. The new data appears around 7PM CET. Please update your device again. Thanks!

For the Back button -  we have created a Live IR Test. Please test the included commands.

The Live IR Feature works the following way:

      1. Navigate to the Settings Menu in your NEEO app.
      2. Navigate to NEEO Brain.
      3. Click on "Device Commands Support".
      4. Enter into the text field the following code: rxGJeAEfTu
      5. Test the commands.

      Thanks!

  • I have the Arris VIP2952 V2 version with the same stupid power toggle feature as described above. However, the 'Always on' functionality has been removed in the firmware. It will always go into standby after a maximum of 8 hours.

      Hi again,

To fix this, just add a command into the recipe that does wake up your device.

  • Andy I also have th eArris VIP2952 V2 in my setup. If you add the power toggle to the recipe it turns the box on, but doesn't turn the box of. But if you use the same recipe within the 8 hours before it goes on standby, it turn the box off. How can I solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Yes, this is exactly the reason why we don't use power toggle for automation. This is explained over here. Thanks!

I have a strang thing with the Arris VIP 2952. I thought that the mobile app screens and the remote should be precisely the same. However in the app I have 7 screens (including stupid device screen) and in the remote only 5. See the images. I would like to have the menu button on the remote also to map on  "menu", now it is mapped to "guide"

For all TVs and set top boxes: Short press on menu opens GUIDE, long press opens MENU

  • Reviving this thread given the new firmware with HDMI -cec. Given that after 8 hours this device goes into standby, there is a problem with turning on and off. If I use in the recipe an extra power on it turns the device off if it is within these eight hours. After eight hours it is okay as it has already turned off. Is there a solution to make turning on 100% correct?

  • Andy can you add the home button for this device? It is missing in the shortcut section

Sure! Unfortunately, we don't have a specific MENU HOME button. I'll create a Live IR Test. But on the original remote seems to be no MENU HOME button. How did you enter the menu with it?

      Like
    • Andy thanks for the fast response! There is a button on the remote with a house on it. That one brings you back to the mainscreen, whatever you were doing. So if you can add it as a shortcut that would be awesome!

Ah, yes. It's the KPN remote, not the Arris remote. We don't have a MENU HOME command. But it looks to be the same button as the TV button. Please test the following Live IR Test: 9jpKON994y

      Thanks!

  • I still cannot fully automate recipes given  the power toggle of this device and the standby function after a couple of hours and the way recipes work in Neeo. If I had only this device everything works: I have a recipe: watch tv in which I add power toggle with launch of this recipe and add a power toggle with  power off of the recipe. However I also have a bluray player and htpc and using those recipes together with watch tv recipe is complicated. Say for example I first watch TV. Everything works. Then I want to watch a bluray. Still working. But if I then return to watch TV by activating this recipe (it was still showing as active in the homescreen), the setup box is turned off of course. I tried to add power toggle of TV in the other recipes but that did not help. The only way that it would work is everytime I go to another recipe than watch TV I first turn off this recipe and then turn on other recipes. Or do you have other ideas?

  • You can set the standbytime of the arris to 8hours, that helps a bit. De device is registered as always on so it doesnt need a toggle. Only after 8 hours the device goes into standby. I have a shortcut made to toggle the tv back on, juat add it on the slides and you have to toggle it once a day. Maybe not perfect but it works for me
