Brain no longer connects to wifi, remote will not pair

After initial setup on cat5e, I swapped the brain to WIFI, it worked well for about 10 hours.  After that the app and remote could not longer find the brain on WIFI.  I checked my router, and the NEEO was not showing up in the clients list.  I plugged the Brain back in, and now it shows up as a wired connection and as a client on the router.  However, it will not join wifi.  It keeps indicating that my passkey is wrong.  I've triple checked the passkey, and I'm typing it correctly.  The brain is about 8 inches from the wireless router.  I would be fine leaving the brain on cat5e, but the remote seems to have lost it's pairing to the brain, and won't repair because he can't connect to the wifi either.

I've reboot the brain, rebooted the router, and reset the remote.  Only thing I haven't done is a total reset of the brain, which I'm hesitant to try since I'm not sure how easy the cloud restore is.

At this point I've thoroughly pissed off the wife because I've had to make radical changes to the home entertainment system to accommodate the lack of IR output in the remote (stupidest decision ever!!) and I can't put the harmony back in service, and she hates trying to use the app.

  • I was able to change the WiFi pass key to something else and could pair. Then I changed it back to what is was previously, and could still pair. It appears to have been an issue with a corrupted cached password. Perhaps an option to forget a network and clear the cached passkey would help.

    • Alan could you make sure both your neeo brain and remote are on the latest firmware version? There where some WiFi improvements in the latest firmware. If it happens again then it would be a good idea to have the NEEO guys have a look at it. As far as I know there is no bug that causes this issue but you could be just unlucky in finding a bug that is brand new.

  • I can confirm that both the remote and the brain were and are on the most current firmware.  Considering how BETA the NEEO is at the moment, I am checking for updates several times a day.

  • Alan Do I understand the current state correctly?  Your NEEO Brain is now up and running and it works fine when using the NEEO App? Is that only the case when you have it plugged into ethernet, or is WiFi now working too?

If WiFi is not yet working, can you plug it back into ethernet, and then go to the settings in the NEEO App, in that choose "NEEO Brain" and in there, can you setup WiFi again?

Once the Wifi is up, let's repair your NEEO Remote to make sure it gets the lates WiFi settings from the NEEO Brain.

    1. On the NEEO Remote, keep the power button pressed until the NEEO Remote turns off
    2. Then keep the power button on the NEEO Remote as well as the back button pressed at the same time until your NEEO Remote ends up on the screen which has the test "Hi! Nice to meet you." and the button "GET STARTED" on the screen.
    3. Then follow the instructions to pair your NEEO Remote to the NEEO Brain again

Let me know if that helped.

  • The remote is now working fine on wifi. I had to connect via Ethernet and use the app to setup wifi. The problem was that it would not connect to the network because it was complaining of a bad passkey. I had to change the passkey on my router to get it to pair. It appears to have been an issue with a corrupt cached passkey.

Alan Yes, I assume that makes the NEEO Remote much more enjoyable 😉  Let us know if you need further help.

  • I still think an option to forget a network and clear the key is needed. It was a huge pain in the ass to update every device I own with a new wifi passkey.

Alan Good to hear that everything is working now.

If I understood you correctly, that should already be possible. When you have your NEEO Brain connected to ethernet, you can use the NEEO App to go into the settings and then follow the steps I have described above. When you go into the Wifi options, then you can click on the same SSID again and NEEO will ask you for the password again.

Whenever you do that, re-pairing your NEEO remote is needed so that it gets the current WiFi credentials.

But you are right, we could make that more self-explaining.

  • I too had this problem, the NEEO brain stopped connecting, I put it in rescue mode, recovered from new firmware and was only able to connect via Ethernet. When I opened the app and attempted to setup wifi I too got password errors. Because of this thread, I was able to change my wifi password then I was able to connect the brain to wifi (I then had to change the password back) which allowed me to not have to change some 30 odd devices in my house to the new password.

I'm on week 2 of NEEO and I know that it's still pre-release but this thread was created 7 months ago and apparently it has yet to be fixed... Warm fuzzy feelings about finally replacing my Harmony are fading pretty quickly.
