How Complicated can Recipies be?

I have a Neeo on preorder and am hoping it will replace my current system (Domoticz) but i am just wondeirng how complicated can a recipie be. For example, can we use variables or script functions?

Time/And/OR/Sunset/Elseif/Geofence?

for example could a recipe

Turn on lights to 15% if sunset has passed and time is between 11pm and 6am and Kitchen Motion is on and light currently = off. Then in the same recipe turn that light off when Kitchen Motion has stayed off for 90 seconds?

As you can see many things need to be true for this to run.

  • Would be good to get an idea of this- is there a limit to the number of criteria?

  • You can do quite a few things with conditions, but I don't want to spoil to much things yet 😉

I am a home automation guy, and I understand "automation" not as "being able to control everything from an app" but as "my home should fully automatically behave as I wish in every single situation without me manually taking influence". This results in extremely complicated conditions and actions. I want to be honest, to be able to handle all of these highly complex conditions and dependencies we'll further need to improve our logics-engine.

Patrick I wanted to set up a stream music recipe. I had Neeo turn on my AVR, TV, and set the input. Unfortunately the Neeo codes for inputs on my Pioneer LX801 are not correct. So I added an "input scroll" button to favorites as a work around. When I pressed the power off, AVR turned off but TV stayed on. How can we remedy this?

Patrick another way of saying this. Unlike when you add devices, I do not see "when launched" and "powered off" options when I click on recipes I have created. The only options I see are Rename Edit and Delete. When Edit is clicked, no "powered off" options either.

Patrick Bump. Anything on my previous set of questions on this?

    • Malcolm Cox Using the input scroll is a bad idea for any type of automation. If any inputs are not correct please let Andy know. His team is super fast fixing such issues and the good thing is any fix like this will have an impact globally - so you help any users that may have the same issue. Thanks for being here. And - let us know how it works once Andy and team have updated your driver.

Raphael I could not agree more on the input scroll. I plan to let Andy know about the inputs this evening. I'm more concerned with the following question:

Unlike when you add devices, I do not see "when launched" and "powered off" options when I click on recipes I have created. The only options I see are Rename Edit and Delete. When Edit is clicked, no "powered off" options either.

Should i start a separate thread?

    • Malcolm Cox I think Patrick will move it into a separate thread if he sees the need for it. I think I have the solution for you:
The "WHEN LAUNCHED" and the "POWERED OFF" are currently indeed some of the various specialities that are available in automatically generated recipes. I would recommend you duplicate (by simply adding it twice) one of your automatically generated recipes and start modifying from there. This should give you all options needed and also the the entire handling of powering on times etc. will be in there. Give it a try. Thanks
