NEEO as secondary controller with Fibaro HC2

I'm having trouble connecting NEEO as a secondary controller with a Fibaro HC2.

I have set the Fibaro HC2 in inclusion mode with the option "Add secondary controller" and used the options "Include in existing network" and "Copy from existing network" in the ZWave menu of the NEEO. They don't connect to each other.

Anyone got it to work?

  • Thanks a lot for all your feedback. What is exactly happening, errors, or no reaction at all?

On our side choosing "Include in existing network" is correct when you want to include NEEO as a secondary controller in another network.

Did you try putting the fibaro on the normal learn mode without telling it that you are trying to add a secondary controller? Do you see anything in the logs of the fibaro controller? Are both working on the same z-wave frequency?

  • On the Fibaro HC2 I tried including the NEEO as a normal device (put HC2 in learning mode just like adding a zwave device) and as a secondary controller (in the zwave option menu of the HC2).

Nothing happens on the HC2. I do not see anything in the HC2 log.

  • Jeroen Cloo I received my Neeo this week and had a testdrive yesterday. Normal device inclusion on the Fibaro HC2 will add the NEEO correctly.

I run firmware 4.140 on the Fibaro HC2. It did take a few minutes to properly configure itself. It's also risky in my opinion. It only imports the ZWAVE devices by their factory device type names, not the given names in the HC2. It caused my to accidentally kill all power to my computer room.

It's not that easy to trace down the actual devices.

    • Kalf : how far was the Neeo brain located from your HC2 during inclusion?

Mayby mine is too far away.

I run the 4.141 beta version in my HC2.

  • Mine is about 5m away from the HC2 and it's about 1m away from a fibaro wall plug.
Did you already reboot the HC2 ? Sometimes the inclusion process hangs and you need to reboot the HC2.

    • Jelle Kalf : mine is also about 5 meters away from HC2 and close to several zwave devices.

Did you see anything on the HC2during inclusion? I only see “home center in learning mode” and “Device added”. How long did you set the inclusion time?

Jeroen Cloo  I only had the 30s timer set, used all 3 checkboxes (including NWI and security). Not that it seemed to matter, but it worked.

Mine stated the Device Added twice and configured a few seconds after that. However, it took several minutes for the Brainz to detect all devices. But I guess that's normal because it has to discover the entire network.

    • Jeroen Cloo After t the "computer room" accident yesterday with selecting the wrong adapter to go on/off, I reset the brain entirely and rebuild it this afternoon. It worked just fine again.

As your brain is already setup, it's wifi. Just move it to a proximity of 1m away from the HC2 and try again. Be sure to avoid any metalframe walls in between. My 2001 house is also filled with that wall type. Horrible for any RF based signal.

    • Jelle Kalf I can not get it to work. I rebooted the HC2, reconfigured NEEO, put the brain next to HC2 for inclusion. Nothing...

If I find time, I will try get it to work through the NEEO SDK.

Jeroen Cloo Silly question: Both devices do have the same z-wave specification, right?

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a HC2 from Fibaro, I will try to find one so that we can analyze that. Is there a choice on the HC2 with full and low power inclusion?

      Like
    • Patrick Yes, the do have the same zwave specification.Other people managed to add the NEEO as a secondary controller. So it is probably 'wrong' with the configuration om my HC2.

Is does not have the power inclusion option anymore (a few firmware versions ago it was visible in the menu). But I tried to connect the NEEO to my HC2 when it was located 15 cm next to the HC2.

Go to the About page in your mobile app to see the Z-Wave region.

    • Paul Spee Just checked then and the region is ANZ, i tried adding the Neeo as a normal device to the HC2 and it works fine. Issue is just adding it as a secondary controller.

What do you mean “adding as a normal device”? From my perspective, the process of adding a secondary controller is identical to adding any other device.

      Like
    • Paul Spee My understanding was that you need to go to Configuration > Z-Wave Network and then click add secondary controller on the HC2 while clicking on "include in existing network"

Or am I missing something.....and it is just user error?

I don’t have a Fibaro, but on other controllers I am familiar with there is only one option whether it is a sensor or a controller. Even on the NEEO you would use the INCLUDE process to add a secondary controller.

      Like
    • Paul Spee  Yeah if i add it from the add device screen it adds the NEEO no problem at all but it looks to be a "dumb" device receiving commands rather than controlling others.

When i try adding as a secondary controller menu i get nothing.

      Really appreciate the help Paul!!!

Might open a support case with NEEO.

As I mentioned previously, I am not familiar with the Fibaro, but the way I read the explanation of “Add Secondary Controller”, that function is not used to include the NEEO as a secondary controller.

      Maybe Patrick can help?

  • I added my HC2 succesfully with the above settings. The new fibaro dimmer is missing functions but the old fibaro dimmers are working correctly. Patrick confirmed already that he is going to test the new dimmer. This is already a cool beginning because i can control my lights in the living room and make cool recipes. It is still not perfect because some switches are categorized under living room and cant move them to the correct room where they belong.

But ,with this nice community and crew a lot of fixes coming every day. Keep up the good work.

John van Dijk "Trying to get the new fibaro dimmer". Problem is that EU versions seem to be sold out, and US versions are kept by customs. But I think I have now found one that I will actually get after paying.

We are sorry for that delay, we'll sure get that device working.

  • I have now managed to include the HC2.  I did it by adding it as a normal device (just like adding a new z-wave switch to the HC2).  I also selected the options as below. Once included I got a new device icon which I set to ON. I It took a while to include the devices. I now need to do some testing as I have included loads of lights and renamed them but now not sure how to the ones I don't need. Anyone?

Hi Phillip, yes it seems to work okay. However it will need refining!

It takes a while to import the devices but as already mentioned on here it doesn't import your device names only the manufactures model i.e. Fibaro FGD212 Dimmer 2.  It means you have to test every device to find out what it is and rename it.  My thermostat devices (Heat-It) were discovered but doesn't seem to work.

When I first set up my Neeo as a secondary controller I put the device that is automatically titled Light and contains all the Z-Wave devices in my room titled Lounge. However now I tested it, I can't delete or move it from that room. I only have the option to hide the device (Light) and then link to the devices contained within Light.

      I hope that helps.

Thanks Steve, I have my remote sitting on my desk doing nothing at the moment as is unusable due to a few ongoing problems.

Just wondering how you have been going with the NEEO as a secondary controller with Fibaro? Does it have integration with Fibaro for recipes etc?

      Thanks Steve!!

Hi Phil,  I'm not getting on very well with it.  I'm not impressed with the Z-Wave integration at the moment.

The only thing I have done is put a light switch slider on a favourites page.  Its not a good slider either.

  • Hi All, I've got the exact same problem here:

    HC2 Firmware: 4.160
    Brain firmware: 0.48.35-20180116

I've tried both inclusion as a secondary controller, or as generic device. nothing works for me, nothing happens at all. I tried on both iOS and Android apps, I always have the same problem, a white rectangle appears above the menu "include in existing network".
All devices are in the same Z-Wave region.
I've restarted both the brain and the HC2 many time, but no success at all.
I can't hide my great disappointment, I've seen the Logitech Harmony working flawlessly with Fibaro devices. May be I made the wrong choice??
It was a long wait, for a big disappointment....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • After many attempts, and thanks to the help of Alex Bayer , I've been able to retrieve the devices from my Fibaro HC2. But now, mostly every day, I need to restart the brain. I don't know why, but right after the reboot of the brain, I got control of my zwave devices. And after few hours, fo no reason, it's no longer working. The reboot of the brain is the only solution.
So what should I do, put the brain on Zwave plug, and create a scenario from my HC2 to restart it every two hours. At least I know the fibaro system works fine.
