Smart HDMI Switch?

My main TV only has 2 HDMI ports, so I'm in the market for a smart HDMI switch that will work well with neeo.

I see a few switches in the device list, but pretty much all of them are marked as stupid devices, for reasons I'm not totally sure of.

Has anyone had luck with a good HDMI switch that will work well with neeo? Are there any on the market that would work but aren't in the database yet? I'd rather not purchase something only to find out it doesn't work well..

Thanks!

  • We have a lot of HDMI Switches that are "always on" devices which don't need to be powered on or off. I will check with Andy if he can search some in our database.

Many thanks for your message! The following supported HDMI switches are supporting discrete Power and Input commands:

    Accell UltraAV 4x8
    Accell UltraAV 4x2
    Accell UltraAV 4x1
    Apogee HDMISW5
    Atlona AT-UHD-PRO3-88M

    ZettaGuard 4K x 2K 4 Port 4 x 1 HDMI Switch with PIP (ZW410)

The following devices do not have discrete power commands, but are marked as "Always on", therefore no power command is sent and no stupid screen shown:

    HDTV Supply HDTVMT0808140
    Kinivo 501BN
    Rocketfish RF-G1185-C

Also, you can just tell me which device you would like to buy and I'll check if we can add it and if it's stupid.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi again,

Unfortunately, no. We do not have any commands for this device. All we can do is either buy the remote or contact the manufacturer.

    • Andy I was looking at the ZettaGuard 4K x 2K 4 Port 4 x 1 HDMI Switch with PIP (ZW410) device on your list since you mentioned it has discrete power commands - however when I add it via the neeo app it still mentions that it's a stupid device. When I add it to a recipe I get a page that asks me to manually turn it on then press the HDMI X button.

I haven't purchased the device yet, but was playing with something that supported 2/4K. Is this the expected experience for a device that supposedly has discrete power commands?

I'm very sorry! This is my fault! A co-worker added a placeholder to validate this device for the power commands. There are no actual discrete Power on/off commands for this. Please let me know when you decided on a HDMI switch. I'll check the device in more detail to make sure this doesn't happen again.

it it is listed as a dumb device for NEEO but since it is always on that won’t matter. It works great with NEEO. It also has 8 hdmi inputs so that really helps.

Tyler Pruce  Thank for helping here 👍 Is there the possibility to turn it on or off at all, or do you just keep it on? In the first case, we could handle it in such a way and the stupid screens would no longer bother you.

      Like
    • Patrick you can turn it off but it is better to consider it always on since it turns on when plugged in and there is no reason to shut it down.

      Discussed this in this thread:

      https://planet.neeo.com/t/80fpha/monoprice-hrm-2218f-hdmi-8x1-switch-inputs-not-working

    • Patrick also to clarify, by having it always on it is much better for NEEO so you aren’t prompted for power toggle ever.

Tyler Pruce Thanks for the feedback. So if I understood correctly we are already handling this as an always on now, no need for further fixes. If I got that wrong let me know.

it is a bit expensive, but it works well and works well with NEEO. I have three of them and all have performed well. It also comes with plugs for every country pretty much and rack mounts if that is your thing.

    • Tyler Pruce Thanks! I'm definitely going to consider it. I may try to go with something that supports 2/4K to future proof a bit, but there don't seem to be too many of those that are well rated.

We have this exact device at office and have pretty good contacts to this company. In other words, it's very well tested.

Okay, thanks. So, all is wired correctly and the device works in our office, the codes are from the manufacturer. I think it has to be a positioning or a setup issue.

Can you please try to find a better position for the Brain? It has to be perfectly in line of sight with the receiver. Depending on the current position of the Brain, you may also try to move it closer.
Also, can you please send me a screenshot of the recipe steps?

      Dillon Moulder Jamie Moore

There may have been a misunderstanding. It's the opposite. We are in contact with the company since a while now. That's why we have such a device at office, added the codes, tested it and even improved it with adding additional commands and macros that the original remote does not support. We are very interest in using NEEO with the devices from HDAnywhere.

    • Jamie Moore Andy just had this response from James in HD anywhere team.

      Hi Jamie,

The NEEO remote is compatible with our MHUB 4x3+1 so rest assured there is no false advertising here, apologies if my previous response was interpreted as suggesting otherwise.

If you search for 'MHUB' here:  https://neeo.com/works-with-neeo/ . You'll see there are codes in place for 'HD Anywhere mHub 2K 4x4' which will allow you to use IR control for your MHUB 4x3+1.

With the MHUB 4x3+1U having been released recently it's taking time for NEEO to add it to their database under it's own model but it uses the same codes.

What I was referring to in terms of improved integration in testing is IP communication back and forth with the MHUB.

      Apologies for any miscommunication.

      Kind Regards,

      James

I have just added your version. It's called mHub (4x3+1U). Right now, the codes are for a 4x4. Yours is a 4x3. Can you please let me know if we can safely delete the following commands:

      - OUTPUT A INPUT 4
      - OUTPUT B INPUT 4
If the same codes are used, I'm assuming that OUTPUT A INPUT 1-3 and OUTPUT B INPUT 1-3 are the codes you need for switching.

Jamie Moore I abandoned trying for now, as stated in the topic I’ve referred to you. I don’t think the two products complement each other yet, especially not in a hidden wires home like mine. Regrettably, there’s been an apparent lack of interest from the NEEO team about using the products in combination during the last 2 months.

I expect the NEEO driver for the MHUB 4K431 was written and tested against the model I have, but it should be compatible with the latest model you own; the hardware specification is largely the same, with the exception of Alexa integration.

Andy I’m fully aware of the history between NEEO and HDAnywhere, that the two companies are now closer than ever, and that the new business relationship between the two companies compels synergy between their respective products. This is precisely why it makes no sense for the topic I’ve referenced here to have so little engagement from NEEO staff.

I have every confidence in your personal commitment and aptitude, and your work rate really does deserve recognition. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for everybody else from NEEO, as it’s just not evident.

Andy The reason it's labelled "3+1" is because there are 3 HDBaseT outputs and 1 HDMI output.

If you look at page 11 of the supplied mhub-431u-manual-05122017.pdf document, you'll see how the Brain might be connected directly to the MHUB 4K431 or MHUB 431U. This is why I also enquired about connecting the Brain to the MHUB's HDMI Output port to provide for control using HDMI CEC.

    • Cyan Sea I think you are getting HDMI switch and a HDMI matrix confused. A switch is usually for one TV in a single room. My home is a whole home intergration meaning that I have 4 AV zones and all of my devices like Sky, Xbox and Apple TV can be viewed and controlled in each room. All my AV kit is in one location under the stairs. Meaning that I done have messy wires and multiple Devine hanging about in each room. It’s a full smart home solution with NEEO driving the user interface to my home alone with a few other things.

      Like
  • Hi Everyone, great to see how the community can progress an issue to being solved. Nice work! Cyan Sea you make a valid point, but if you consider that a single brain + MHUB can potentially be used to control 4/8 separate AV zones, that is saving the cost of 3 ($600) or 7 ($1400) additional brains potentially in a whole-home AV project. NEEO+MHUB users will be able to just buy additional remotes for zones where they want a remote in-situ. This is why the partnership has the potential to be so complimentary in our particular product category. Thanks for your interest!
