Harman Kardon AVR 1700 Power Off Hack

I'm not sure that this is really a function of the NEEO, as my old Logitech Harmony remote had the same issue. Macros/recipes to turn off devices won't power off the Harman Kardon AVR 1700 (an otherwise nice, affordable digital receiver). So, shortly after the TV screen turns off, the sound keeps on playing.

However, the ease of editing recipes for the NEEO makes it an easy solution:

  1. On the phone app, tap the menu icon and select Recipes.
  2. Select a recipe that has a 'off' addition (typically the automatically added ones). For example, TiVo in my case.
  3. On the pop-up menu, tap Powered off.
  4. At the end of your recipe, add two new commands after the Send "power off" to "AV Receiver": Send "power on" to AVR and again Send "power off" to AVR.

Yes, that's right: You'll send Power Off, Power On, Power Off. The first don't really do anything, other than perhaps clear any something on the AVR.

  • That's weird. You should have to do that.

Try adding the power on and power off commands as short cuts and simulate the power off sequence. Maybe you find something better.

    • Paul Spee I agree it's odd. I had created a "all off" recipe as well, and the same issue. Even just going to the AVR commands and testing "Power off" doesn't actually turn the unit off (only the Off/On/Off sequence). I've played around with several sequences, in fact, and this is the one that seems to work. Since it's easy enough to add to the existing power off sequence for a stock recipe, I'm satisfied with it.

That being said, if anyone finds anything better, I'd love to hear it!
