Release Notes "Six Three Three Six" (Release 0.53.8)

Friends,

I am happy to let you know that we have just published the release 0.53.8 to you. Check the note below to learn more about how to update your NEEO.

Also, check the biggest news NEEO has ever announced!

This release comes with even more customization options since many of you have been asking for these. You can now give custom names to your shortcuts, you can add empty spaces on your shortcut pages, you can edit the icons of custom recipes and much more.

There is even a new UI in that release. I don't want to say more, just do the update and you'll see 馃槈 Don't worry, you can switch back to the old UI if you don't like it.

We have added our Multibrain Driver as well. This driver allows you to connect multiple NEEO Brains together. This becomes especially handy when you have devices which need to be controlled over IR or HDMI CEC in different locations. This requires some manual steps to set up, in exchange, this brings huge flexibility. By adding the device "NEEO Brain" you can add devices which you have previously configured on another NEEO Brain.

In addition to these and many other new features, we implemented a load of fixes and improved the NEEO Remote stability even further. HDMI CEC based drivers now profit from a major overhaul, especially in regards to reliability and power-states.

Highlights

  • Shortcuts can now be manually renamed
  • Added basic NEEO Multibrain Driver
  • SDK Drivers can now be updated without re-adding to NEEO
  • Devices controlled over HDMI CEC properly reflected Power State on NEEO
  • Infrared Devices are automatically updated if there is a change in the database
  • New UI, can be toggled back to old look in the NEEO App
  • Custom Recipes can now be duplicated
  • There is now a spacer which you can use to further customize your shortcut pages
  • Icons for custom recipes can now be manually selected
  • If you have only one room setup this now is the new home screen

How to update your NEEO

Pretty simple as announced in release 0.50.6: Simply wait for the NEEO Remote or the NEEO App to show the red exclamation mark, then click on it and follow the instructions. If you are not running 0.50.6 yet, follow this little guide to update via the NEEO App.

The firmware release is not published at the very same moment in all regions, so be aware that it may take up to 24 hours until your NEEO Brain shows the update, so give it some time.

  • Jeff  Due to the lack of transparency and absence of meaningful communications post-acquisition, how can affected NEEO customers make formal complaints to Control4? Please advise.  Charlie Kindel Can you kindly give some direction here too please? Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Dillon Moulder What was not transparent? Everything you need to know is communicated via the posts.

Jeff If 鈥渆verything鈥 we need to know has been shared, why are there so many questions about what is going to happen within the next 24 months, what is going to happen after the 24 months end, what does the upgrade option from Control4 involve, why have specific NEEO staff members stopped posting on Planet NEEO, which NEEO employees no longer work for the company, has all NEEO development stopped, will there be any more firmware updates at all, where is the promised set of dark UI icons, and so on? It鈥檚 just ridiculous to suggest that affected customers have all the information they need. There are more than enough unanswered questions to form the basis of an FAQ, so why not write and publish one? In the meantime, please answer my question with the information I鈥檝e requested regarding the complaints procedure; all reputable companies have one.

Dillon Moulder Communications is bad as always since Kickstarter. Why are you surprised or still offended by this? It sadly has always been like that....

Jan Pete I鈥檓 not surprised at all. In fact, it鈥檚 all entirely predictable. However, since NEEO services have now been announced as finite, it鈥檚 far more important to obtain full and honest answers now than it was pre-acquisition. Don鈥檛 you want to know exactly what to expect between now and month 24 rather than be left guessing?

Dillon Moulder They give you no information, this is all information you need. Congratulations to a CHF 250 paperweight....

Even if Niels or somebody is able to workaround the proprietary software, the hardware will fail at some point in the future, so there is not much sense in investing time and energy in keeping neeo running from my point of view.

I might be interested in rooting the Remote in order to flash it with a community based software in order to control something open source.

But neeo for private customers is dead. Period. I am as angry as you as I feel betraied. Lessons learned: I will never do Kickstarter again

And to the evangelists: spare me with this kickstarter is not amazon crap.

As a kickstarter you can not just take the money and do what you want with it. You have accepted the AGBs which say that you must try keeping up to your promises, which is obviously not the case here....

      Jan Pete

Who needs working software?  What Kickstarter backers really want is an an instagramable unboxing experience they can monetise on their Youtube fetish channel of product reviews.  Am I right?

Brad Hayden This just happened to me, too. First 6 stations come up with the music Icon, the remaining 6 are still ok. If I delete one of the "music icons" and add the station again (with correct station logo selected) it shows up with the "music icon".
