What are Combo devices and HowTo handle them correctly?
If you want to add certain devices to NEEO, you will notice that multiple devices with very similar model names can come up. We call them COMBO devices.
For example:
Denon RCD-M40 AUDIO
and
Denon RCD-M40 CD
and
Denon RCD-M40 TUNER
The reason for this is, that NEEO handles devices according to device types.
Always add the main part (depending on the device, e.g. AUDIO, AVR, TV) and then add all parts you would like to use with NEEO. If you never listen to the radio, you won't have to add the TUNER part. If the device is only used for amplifying the audio signal and for switching the inputs, just the AUDIO part is needed.
If you add the CD player part, for instance, you'll have a recipe that when started will show you the transport buttons (PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, etc.). If you add the TUNER part, you'll not get the transport button screen - instead, we'll show you the channel favorite screen. Also, the channel hard buttons will automatically be mapped to the tuner channel buttons, etc. All in all, you'll get separate recipes that already switch to the correct input and present you with an interface that is already tailored to the device type (CD, Tuner, etc..) you need.
These device parts are optional. The main part (again depending on the device, e.g. AUDIO, AVR, TV), is mandatory. The main part (in the example above, the AUDIO part) is used for powering on/off the device, switching inputs and controlling the volume only. Please note that the AUDIO AVR parts will always be hidden by default.
I hope I could make our system clear to you. It's always the same principle for all combo devices. The following is an example of how to add and set up a combo device.
For this example, we'll assume the devices listed above. Also, we assume that you are listening to a CD and TUNER.
- Open the NEEO app.
- Click on the hamburger menu in the upper right corner.
- Click on "Devices".
- Click on "Add a new device".
- Add "RCD-M40 AUDIO".
- Click "Next" until the setup process asks if you would like to add another device.
- Click on "Add more devices".
- Add "Denon RCD-M40 CD".
- Click "Next" until the setup process asks if you would like to add another device.
- Add "Denon RCD-M40 TUNER".
- Click "Next" until the setup process asks if you would like to add another device.
- Click on "Done".
Now you'll have two recipes on the Home screen - CD and TUNER. Both have a red exclamation mark. This implies that the setup is not yet finished. You'll have to define how your devices are connected together.
- Click on the "CD" recipe icon.
- The setup process will ask you "Which Input on Audio is used".
- Choose "Input CD".
- Click on "Next" and "Done".
- Click on the "Tuner" recipe icon.
- The setup process will ask you "Which Input on Audio is used".
- Choose "Input Tuner".
- Click on "Next" and "Done".
Now, all should be fine. Of course, you can edit the recipes, add commands to the shortcut screen, hide screens, etc. Exactly the same behavior as for non-combo devices.
