Release Notes "L'infini" (Release 0.50.6)

Friends,

This is a little follow-up release to release 0.50.5, make sure to read the original release notes.

The cool thing about this release is how simple updating your NEEO just became: From today on you can trigger the updates directly from your NEEO Remote with just two simple clicks.

It is no longer necessary to first search your mobile device, no need to unlock it and wait till it connected to WiFi, no need to open the NEEO App or touch your mobile at any point during the update.

Once you see the red exclamation mark on the NEEO Remote, just tap it and follow the instructions on the screen.

The firmware release is not published at the very same moment in all regions, so be aware that it may take up to 24 hours until your NEEO Brain shows the update, so give it some time.

Raphael any news on new firmware release? 1.5 month passed, would be good to know when we can expect the next upgrade. Thanks

  • Have done the update, wasn’t quite the smooth experience... when tapped update it turned off the tv so then had to dig out the tv remote to turn it back on while NEEO was updating! Never mind.

Why would you even update while using it?

    • Mika Su the remote/brain weren’t doing anything at the time, my daughter was in the middle of watching a film so thought it an opportune moment to grab the remote and update!

You must have been unlucky though. Just tried to reproduce the error, but what do you know, updating smoothly and TBBT still running :)

    • Mika Su I have to grab any time I can when the remote isn’t actually having buttons pressed on it to do updates etc. Thought the middle of a movie was a pretty safe time! The NEEO gets a LOT of use in my house despite my relatively simple setup, it’s fantastic really!

    • William Laverick-Joyce Maybe you should go for automatic updates, then the remote checks if it is used, if not, it doesn't do the Update. But currently the update can also be started anytime of the day, there is allready a request to set a timespan where the remote should be doing Updates. But therefor the time and calender bug needs to be fixed firstly.

jb launching the device/room via remote will loop "Activating Recipe", no recipe loads.

    • jb go ahead and check the recipe through the app, may there be no step show controls of available, thats why the remote stuggles. Add this step again and everything is solved, this is allready a known (but very rare cases) bug, and it is allready worked on.

  • I loved this, was super easy. I walked away after the update and both the remote and brain were good to go when I came back. Thank you.

  • This was the smoothest FW update to Neeo so far. Just as it should be! Thanks!

  • This release was well intentioned unfortunately the update did not not go as expected. The brain  updated without issued but the remote failed and took ten attempts to update until I change the phone app option "Prioritize NEEO Link" to an "ON" state, then finally the remote update completed. I am still having other issue with the remote as outlined in my replays to @Jeff in the previous release posts.

  • I must say that this update while simple, has large impact on improving simple function of the remote. Good job.

But.... Raphael  Patrick Can we get some info on when we can expect hand recognition and more importantly KODI integration???!!!

    • Matthew Potter There are allready two Kodi SDK Drivers available. One is also packed with a list of TV Shows and Movies.

    • Markus Mahr thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately SDK does not mean native Kodi support to me.

    • Matthew Potter It is not yet native, but it is available and it is definitly a awsome integration allready build. It will get enhanced and (hopefully) merged inside the Brain (or at least the whole SDK will fit in the brain).

    • Matthew Potter mine is in early alpha stage. When it’s finished I’ll offer it to NEEO. Hopefully they can then include it.

  • Good update. The remote is starting to feel finished now. Really looking forward to being able to use IP control with the SDK out.

  • Nice update process. Unfortunately, this latest release appears to have broken Neeo's IR control of my Oppo BDP-103 Blu-ray player. It can no longer control Play or Pause, and other functions might not be working (hard to say until the basics are working). It was all working fine prior to updating to this release.

    • Steveeo Drivers should not be impacted by Firmware Update. They are two different storages on the Brain. Did you check if you can Update the Driver? Did you try to add it a second time and check if it is then working again? If not, maybe Andy knows something about this issue.

Markus Mahr I understand that a firmware update shouldn't impact device drivers, which is part of the reason I was surprised to see this happen. The Neeo app indicates that the driver for the Oppo device is already at the latest version. I have not tried adding the device a second time to see if it behaves differently, but I'll experiment more when I'm home this evening.

By the way, the Neeo is sending out IR commands (which I can confirm via a sensor on my Xantech IR distribution setup), they just seem to be the wrong commands.

      Many thanks for your feedback!

Markus Mahr is right. The device data and firmware updates are two completely separate processes. Also, the data for the BDP-103 wasn't changed for more then a year.

Is there anything else that could have changed? E.g. Brain position. Additionally, try re-adding the device like Markus proposed.

Andy I did a bit more experimentation, and sometimes the Neeo controls the Oppo player correctly, and sometimes it doesn't.

      A few points of note:

      • The Brain hasn't move at all, and thus far, no other device in my Neeo configuration has exhibited this issue.
      • The original Oppo remote always controls the player correctly, so the problem isn't in the player.
      • The Neeo always controlled the Oppo player correctly prior to updating the Neeo to this firmware release.
      • As best as I can determine, the Neeo is controlling the Oppo player correctly whenever the only recipe running on the Neeo is the one to control the Oppo player.
      • If other recipes are running on the Neeo prior to starting the recipe for the Oppo player, sometimes the Neeo fails to control the Oppo player. I haven't been able to find a repeatable scenario where this always happens. If I retry a sequence that previous caused a problem, it may or may not cause a problem the next time, which makes it challenging to troubleshoot.
      • I created another device for the Oppo, and so far that one has worked correctly, but it's possible I haven't tried it enough to encounter a problem.

My guess is that there's some situation where another recipe is somehow interfering with the recipe for the Oppo, such that perhaps Neeo is sending commands for a different device or just garbage data when it should be sending the Oppo commands. I dunno. Is it possible that a memory space is inadvertently getting overwritten?

      Many thanks for checking!

Please continue to use the second added device and let me know if the issue appears again.

Additionally, please let me know the following data - we would like to check the logs and file a bug report for the developers:

      - Host name of the brain
      - Firmware version
      - All devices involved in the interfering recipes
      - Screenshots of the interfering recipes

Thanks! That would help a lot!

  • Andy , I too reported earlier that my NEEO nolonger outputs the correct IR for OFF to my Oppo UDP-203. All my other Oppo UDP-203 commands appear to work. You had me test the OFF command from a live test and that worked. You stated that the command from the live test was from the Oppo driver that hadn't changed on your end for a long time. My Oppo driver had become corrupt. We left the issue with you wanting me to delete my Oppo device and re-adding it back. I have yet to do this as my recipes are not simple and I use the Oppo OFF command when switching to other recipes/devices.  What I would prefer is that drivers could be refreshed, an option similar to check driver for update.

  • Good day, I too report, that it often does not turn off my Sony TV. So I had to put the TV on the screen to turn it off signly.
