  • Although NEEO is advertised with Bluetooth support, at the moment you can not control a single device via Bluetooth. So you have to wait until the announcements of NEEO were then put into action to be able to use Bluetooth.

Stephen Karp For example at Amazon where you can buy an NEEO is written:

"Das NEEO Brain steuert all deine Geräte und Gadgets. Sämtliche führenden Home Control Standards werden vom NEEO Brain unterstützt (Wifi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Infrarot, HDMI CEC und viel mehr). "

"The NEEO Brain controls all your devices and gadgets. All leading home control standards are supported by the NEEO Brain (Wifi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Infrared, HDMI CEC and much more)."

      or

"NEEO ist kompatibel mit allen bekannten AV Produkten der letzten 10 Jahre und unterstützt auch alle coolen neuen Geräte auf dem Markt. Unterstützt werden alle grossen Heimautomationsstandards wie Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Infrarot, HDMI CEC und vieles mehr."

"NEEO is compatible with all known AV products of the last 10 years and also supports all the cool new devices on the market. It supports all major home automation standards such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Infrared, HDMI CEC and much more."

That's what I mean by the product is being advertised with product features like Bluetooth.

In fact, at the moment you can not even control one single device of the modern devices that need Bluetooth control, for example, a NVIDIA Shield with NEEO and Bluetooth.

That's what I mean when I write that of the properties that are advertised so far, Bluetooth has not been put into action, so you can probably just wait until NEEO finished her product. So hopefully Bluetooth can be used in the future.

  • Hi, Stephen Karp. Thank you for reaching out to us. As Fonzo has already mentioned, we don't support Bluetooth based drivers yet.
The Bluetooth hardware is functional, though the software is not yet ready. This control method will be definitely enabled within future firmware versions. As I have already mentioned in other threads, I can tell you that in general, the first Bluetooth LE-based drivers are running for internal testing. Due to the NEEO Brain handling a whole bunch of different frequencies and protocols, the testing procedures are quite extensive to verify that the implementation does not cause any interferences.

Fonzo: Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention! We've already taken action and clarified this as long as Bluetooth software is not ready. Changes on amazon.de will usually take a few days to be refreshed.
If you find any other information about Bluetooth, which could be confusing, I would appreciate if you could let me know. Thank you very much.

  • First of all, I don't know if I'm in the right place with my posting, so please forgive me if I'm wrong. Since Logitech wants to get rid of their home automation customers with harmony hub based remotes right now by closing the local port 5222 I also look for an alternative solution. NEEO seems to be pretty close as I can see, but I don't want to use HDMI-CEC (tried once and ended up in chaos), so Bluetooth is essential for me (fire tv), and I can't find a lot on how to learn IR or RF Signals for not (yet) supported stuff like my air-conditions, fans etc. I also own a light Manager air and learned that Support for this device is not completely implemented yet by NEEO.

Michael Scholz Bluetooth was promised but you have to wait for further firmware updates that NEEO supports also Bluetooth. Until now I use NEEO as a remote and a Logitech  Hub for control for devices that work only with Bluetooth. Instead of using XMPP and Port 5222 you can use systems that can control the harmony hub via websocket for example FHEM. A Fire TV can also be controlled via ADB so no need for Bluetooth control. IR signals can also not be learned to NEEO at the moment but you can send a request to   Andy who adds the ir-code to the database. The light manager can be simply controlled via a raspberry and forward action or a home automation system of choice. The command is then redirected to the light manager from the raspberry or the home automation system to the light manager via the web interface of the light manager.

  • @fonzo, thanx  for the quick answer. A PI is already running (HA-Bridge) for certain Alexa actions including both of my harmony hubs, so I guess I can implement a NEEO and controle it via lan commands using my HA-Bridge again for speech controle? If yes, only recepies or single button actions as well (like switching on the outside Speakers on my Marantz SR-7010 via speech command as I do right now with the Harmony hub?

Michael Scholz at the moment the HA-Bridge is useless because it can not control the harmony hub via websockets. You can install FHEM for the harmony if you like. You can start commands or recipes as described by  Niels de Klerk in this API thread .

I personally use instead of the HA-Bridge IP-Symcon and IPSymconNEEO . Marantz/Denon is controlled by IPSymconDenon and the FireTV via IPSymconFireTV .  Commands to Light manager can be sent via file_get_contents to the Lightmanager Web interface. All commands are sent from NEEO via forward action to the endpoint on the raspberry, in my case a webhook in IP-Symcon.

  • @ Fonzo, thanx again, right now Harmony is still working with HA, blocked the corresponding URLs on my router for the hubs and still on 201 FW, but this is of course not future save, that's why I look into NEEO. If I get you right there is a Chance to controle NEEO via simple get, put or post reuqests? That would be good enough for me, will have a look into the api thread, thanx again. Might order a NEEO to see how far I get with it. I would like to stay with HA-Bridge since it is very simple and extremely flexible. I integrated already two broadlink Minis, as well as a Milight Bridge which seems to also be missing at NEEO.

  • Ordered a NEEO bundle, hopefully ariving soon. Just found an old flirc which I can use for my fire tv in the mean time I guess. As far as I understood flirc with fire tv is already supported, one problem out of the way I guess.

Michael Scholz If you update to the newest Firmware from the Logitech Hub you can use XMPP again. Then you could use also the Raspberry with Forward Action and the HA Bridge to control the FireTV. Controlling the Fire TV via Bluetooth or ADB is much more fluent compared to remote control over IR and Flirc.

  • @ Fonzo  I already upgraded both my Logitech hubs to FW 210 when it came out, even support contacted me regarding my massive complaint. Reason for ordering NEEO though was to get rid of at least one of my hubs since this is already the second time Logitech tried this on their customers. It is also a design question since NEEO looks a lot more valuable compared to my Elite right now. Since I had a flirc lying around from back in the days when I used Logitech 1100 I will give that a shot first and see how it works. If it is not usable I will leave the Logitech hub until full Bluetooth support is available. It will take me a while anyway to set up my NEEO (as soon as it arives) in order to achive the full WAF at home. Who knows, an implementation of NEEO into HA Bridge might also be possible. This would make things even easier in future, and as I can see here full FTV support via bluetooth has been promised for a while....but thanx again for trying to help. By the way, NEEO support is quite fast in answering, entered a request to add my airconditioning remote I received an answer with a live IR test only hours later, hope they will keep it up that way.

@ fonzo One more question if I may: I know NEEO comes with one IR extender. Does the Logitech IR extender also work with the NEEO?

Michael Scholz I don't know, at least you could try, but I don't use an IR extender with NEEO. Most devices are controlled via the network in my setup.

  • Ok, I'm back since my NEEO only arived yesterday (ordered 21st of December) but anyway...

I got my main devices working (TV, AVR, VU+, Vavoo box), and finally my fire tv using flirc. Control with flirc is quite quick, only problem is still turning Fire TV off (long home button), but that's an old fire tv problem. Otherwise recording of the buttons (flirc) went smoothly and navigation works fine. What is badly missing on NEEO is:

    - Recording of IR signals, needed for my airconditioning or fans

    - decent implementation of Light Manager Air

    - Implementation of certain devices via Lan (AVR, TV, VU+>easy setup within the app, api's are available) since control is more reliable and status of these devices would always be clear

    - Usability of the hard coded "home button" on the NEEO for other devices

    - Setting of Volume and Mute controle in custom recepies

    - Using Volume and Mute control outside of recepies and make it possible to assign them to a fixed device (use case: I connect bluetooth via speech command from Alexa to the AVR, but now Volume control is not possible with NEEO since no recepie has been started, same as harmony).

Otherwise it seems to be a good replacement for Harmony Elite once one gets used to the different handling, but as mentioned above still a long way to go.

    • Michael Scholz Just to let you know, there is an written SDK driver from me that support the VU+ you can find the Related topic to that over here:

      https://planet.neeo.com/t/m2k53t/enigma2-sdk-driver

Only issue with SDK Drivers is you currently need to run them on an external 24/7 running device (e.g. RasperrbyPi). The driver in it's current state work very well and is in my personal setup since i started to code it. I will redo some things and also update it, as soon as i find time to do so and implement new features as well. If you have questions, feel free to ask them over in the Topic.

If you would like to have such drivers run inside the NEEO Brain, you can add your vote over at this topic, it may help to change the attention on this topic:

  • Hello,

can someone at Neeo explain me when Bluetooth support will be available.

So far my Black Neeo is still in the box and I will probably dump it to buy a working device, Logitech Harmony Elite.

I gave my trust to this company but only receive a piece of junk which is not even at the level of my 20 years old remote !!!

David There will never be Bluetooth support as NEEO will not release any new firmware. Therefore, you have to live with the state of the present firmware or just find a workaround. I myself use a harmony hub for Bluetooth and send commands from NEEO via an IPSymconNEEO and IPSymconHarmony to the harmony hub.

David NEEO joins the Control4 Family

Raphael That said, other than any critical updates this firmware is the last one that comes from the NEEO team.

This is the last one without Bluetooth

      Firmware 0.53.8

  • Hello Fonzo,

    thank you for the feedback.

Raphael is it possible to return my black Neeo and get a refund ?

I purchased it to get a full solution not an incomplete thing. If now, what was promised will not be delivered in a reasonable timeframe, then it is useless to me and my old remote does the job !!!
