Tivo - Still asking for a manual power-up after updating Device

Hi

I've update the device for my Tivo Bolt, but I'm still getting nagged to power on the device.  The recipe doesn't appear to show a power up request (nor is it needed, of course, since Tivo is always-on), and I've tried adding a 'Tivo button' into the request to see if that gets rid of the nag screen, but it doesn't.  Am I missing something?

  • Hi Pete, I have the same issue with my Samsung cable box. From what I've learned,  these particular devices were not built to integrate full automation. In your case, you may have to upgrade your Tivo

    • Anthony Roper But i really just need Neeo not to get fussy about powering on Tivo.  The Bolt is the newest model available.  It was something that worked with Harmony, so I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work with Neeo.  At least for the Bolt, sending the 'Tivo button' ensure it's on, there's no dedicated 'on' button.

    • Pete White I think the NEEO team just needs to change the Tivo bolt to a smart device. I have the Roamio Plus and it behaves like a smart device in NEEO. No nag so it's definitely doable.

Perhaps Patrick and Andy can help here.

    • Pete White I understand your frustration as I have the exact same problem. I figure this is a manufacturer's glitch to address (firmware perhaps). The fact that you and I are discussing it tells me this is probably not an isolated issue.  The NEEO team should be looking hard into this, especially if more users start to report similar problems.  Because there's no way to know what devices will work until you actually add them, I'd strongly recommend holding off buying new equipment as pre-screening for compatibility seems impractical for us but more appropriate for NEEO.

      Hi again,

We already marked the Bolt as always on device in order to prevent the "dumb" device screen. Please update the device according to this guide: https://planet.neeo.com/t/h4td07/howto-update-a-device and all should be fine.

Let me know if you still have any issue!

      Thanks!

    • Andy Hello Andy,

I have the same issue as Pete but with different equipment. Granted, these are older devices (all of which are fully controlled by my Harmony remote), I don't see why my NEEO can't do the same.  Here is a complete list of them:  YAMAHA HTR-5550 A/V (not on the list of devices so it can't be added), SAMSUNG SMT-C5320 CABLE BOX (added but gets the "Dumb device" screen-not operable), SAMSUNG LN40B650T1F TV ("Dumb device" screen - not operable), SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA EXPLORER 8300HD CABLE BOX ("Dumb device" screen - not operable). As you can see, this is a pretty long list. I'm using my Harmony in the meantime (thank God I didn't get rid of it prematurely). But my goal is to use my NEEO exclusively, so please help me.

Anthony Roper I will have the device driver team add the YAMAHA HTR-5550 A/V.

What do you mean by "not operatable" for the other devices? Does manually toggling the power does not send out the right commands?

For the devices that show the stupid device screen, could you maybe check if any other commands turn them on (often sending digits or switching inputs actually do that). If you find such commands and let us know, we can make discrete commands for the power ON and OFF. This would be the very best way to fix that.

    • Patrick Hi Patrick. By "not operable" I mean that nothing happens, including power on or off. I've tried other commands, as you suggested, after switching the power on but nothing happens at all. This is the case for all the devices listed. The only difference between them is that the Yamaha receiver was the only one not found on the devices list.

Anthony Roper I have opened separate threads for your device specific issues:

      SAMSUNG LN40B650T1F TV

SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA EXPLORER 8300HD CABLE BOX

      SAMSUNG SMT-C5320 CABLE BOX

      YAMAHA HTR-5550 A/V

  • As for the Tivo, can you remove and re-add the device? We have marked this as an always-on device in our database. So that should behave differently.

If that does not help, can you let us know which exact model you have added to NEEO?

    • Patrick Sure, will try it this evening.

  • Deleting and re-adding the Bolt fixed the issue - thanks.  Next problem is that Button D doesn't work.  for the Bolt, this is important, as it's the commercial skip button.

      Hi again,

The Function D button is fixed! The new data will appear around 1AM CET. Please update your device according to this guide. Thanks!

    Glad to hear!

I'll check that! There are already the commands SKIP SECONDS FORWARD and SKIP SECONDS BACKWARD added. These commands should already do it for you. They are located on the transport button screen. Right now, it's the wrong icon. They are addd as >>I and I<<.

  • Another request for Tivo (sorry!).  The hard 'Back' button doesn't do anything for Tivo, but that's a frequently used button on the TivO peanut, so that can that be coded too?  Generally I'm having a tough time finding a good (i.e. wife-approved) Tivo set-up for the touch screen, but I think enabling the Back hard button would help.

This is strange. There is already a BACK button command added to this device that works for other TiVo units. I have created a Live IR test. Please test the included commands. Hopefully one of them works.

The Live IR Test works the following way:

      1. Navigate to the Settings Menu in your NEEO app.
      2. Navigate to NEEO Brain.
      3. Click on "Device Commands Support".
      4. Enter into the text field the following code: 15E33iHzWX
      5. Test the commands.

      Thanks for testing!

    • Andy Thanks, I'll check it later.  To confirm, this is for the physical 'Back' button, not for a soft/touch screen button?

Yes! Soft and hard button make no difference. The same command is mapped to both of them.

      Thanks!

    • Andy No dice.  Back Button 1 seems to act the same as the 'Live TV' button, Back Button 2 didn't do anything.

    • Pete White you will have to delete the Tivo and add it again. I had requested Andy to map the Back hard button to the Last/Previous Channel command. He made that update yesterday and asked me to test it out by deleting my TiVo Roamio Plus and add it again. I can confirm that the Back button now works like the Last button on the TV remote. To go back in the menus, I use the left arrow and added the Clear shortcut to close any menus.

      Hi again,

We can add LAST to your device as a back button. Is this the command you are looking for?

      Like
    • Andy Not really....Last is a different function from Back.  Last will switch to the last viewed channel, whereas Back does the same as any back button, it just backs you through the menu structure, but also removed screen overlays (that would have been called with the Info button), and various other things.  No you mention it, I suspect the option 2 I tried last night was the Last button, as it did do something once, when I was viewing live TV, but had no impact once I was in the Tivo UI.

      Hi again,

The BACK button that we have entered does work for other users. But to be 100% sure, we have just ordered a TiVo remote. It will arrive by tomorrow. We are going to learn the command from it.

    • Andy OK, cool.  The Bolt remote is (I think) slightly different from Roamio and the legacy Tivos, but it is backward-compatible, so should do the job.

      Hi again,

Well, we just have learned the command from the original Bolt remote - and it's exactly the same command that is already added to the driver of your TiVo Bolt. This is the original code which works for any other TiVo Bolt device. I'm afraid we cannot fix that, because there is nothing to fix on our side. Maybe you are using a different firmware on you TiVo, or buttons are mapped differently. But on the NEEO side, everything with this command is 100% correct.
