Wall Mounted Tv, 3D printed NEEO Mount

After a bit of heartache I finally have a working NEEO Brain, but that's another story.

I have my TV hung on the wall and needed a way to hang my NEEO Brain up on the wall under my TV.

Few minutes in design software, over to the 3D Printer & Voila !

A bracket that slides into the location where the TV base/ stand would go.

3D Printers rock !!

And fingers crossed, so will my Neeo shortly !!

  • Congrats!

  • Thank you !!

  • This is cool! Post picture of the final setup when done!

  • Patrick Keegan I'm sure I could make one for you, but every TV uses a different mounting design for their base so I'd need some info on your TV

    • Big K When I first read your post (without looking at the pictures) I thought you had made a vertical wall mount that my NEEO could snap into. Something I could attach to on the inside of a cabinet on its side. Like a button on a wall. What you've made is really great and I can see many people using it.

Patrick Keegan  this kinda what you were thinking ?

    • Big K I am in the US and I really appreciate your offer.

    • Big K Yes that is exactly what I was thinking. But shipping I think would be a pain for you.

Patrick Keegan I have a small online business with some friends and we have locations in Canada, USA, EU. So .. it wouldn't be very hard to implement into our existing network. 😉

    • Big K If you are interested in going forward I would be happy to pay for shipping. Direct Message me and we can work out the details. Thanks.

  • Not the best photo but here's what it looks like.

  • Looks good with it mounted!

milo Ha ha ha ha !!! Im guessing good news is coming for you guys in a week, my journey has been rough as well (the unit that was sent to me was defective along with a healthy dose of miscommunication). I will say this though, if you keep your chin up and remain positive I think you will be impressed. They are a brand new company with no experience of this magnitude so there will be growing pains but I think they are doing well and will only continue to grow into an amazing company !

  • Kinda snowballing here but, if I figure out what font they are using, we could even add their logo to it (with neeo's blessing)

  • ClearHeatVision How does this look ? Might need to tweak arm location or move to a 3 arm setup to make sure it doesnt interfere with IR .

  • Big K hehe. I have not seen that NEEO accessory yet. We have many other 3D printed things like flash adapters and stuff around in the office that look slightly similar though.
One question that I have with your holder:  You say you will hang it up unto the wall under the TV. Could you not mount the brain behind your TV? Have you tried? Even if it does not look like it if you look at the brain - due to the IR optics in the brain you get very strong IR output not only on the top but also on the side. I have not seen many setups with brains behind the TV which perfectly control the TV. I would be curious to learn if that works in your case as well (if it fits at all) Thanks for being part of NEEO and I'm glad to hear that the initial issues were sorted out. Raphael

    • Raphael Big K  If it's non proprietary could you let us know exactly where the IR transmitters are located, say in relation to the NEEO logo on the Brain or the white LED light.

      Thanks.

Raphael I have mine right below the TV as shown in this photo. Does the IR emit from the top or bottom of the brain ?

Big K Patrick Keegan I' happy to share! It's not a secret (anymore) how the IR is designed. By now I'm sure the major competitors have taken some brains apart ;) The answers is: The IR output is literally into every direction. There are over 80! light guides in the top lid of the brain driven by multiple top-looker and side-looker IR LEDs. Additionally there are side-looker IR LEDs in the bottom of the brain firing into a 360° light guide. It really creates an IR coverage like I have not seen on any product.
Here is the story of how it has been designed: We knew infrared is still important for the consumer market. All existing solutions were based on blasters that you had to aim towards the TV or the small sticky infrared emitters that you had to stick in front of your device - and those ones always fall of after a while. So - we had not seen any good solutions and did not have the highest hopes than we can do much better but we started a new design from scratch. We were thinking about how light is best distributed in a room from one point. And the answer was simple - with a lightbulb that sends light in to all direction 360° vertically and horizontally. With the first design we added very low power LEDs because our simulations said this should do the job. Honestly I did not have hight hopes that this actually performs. I was even more amazed when I saw that it performs like nothing else that I had seen until then. Still in todays design - the actual light emitted is less than with a standard infrared remote control BUT - it goes into every direction. Just like with a candle. A little bit of light will go into almost every corner of the room.

PS: Here is an older post where I spoke about the infrared solution: https://planet.neeo.com/t/x1t6q8/lets-talk-infrared

      Thanks for being awesome

PS: It's fun to watch the infrared in action. Cheap smartphone cameras can display the infrared light for you (as they don't have a proper IR filter) In the case of Apple's iPhone only the front camera will show you anything - the rear one is "too good" for that. Have fun

    • Raphael Thanks for responding. An amazing video!!

  • Only one thing to do now ! Lol !! Let's do some testing !

  • Cool !!!

      Big K Nice!

    • Raphael I really don't want to question NEEO but why put so much effort in IR? I'm positive it has been the standard for quite a while but every product produced from now on would more likely to be controlled over IP or BT? That being said, ofcourse IR is necessary but why with 80 transmitters? in what case would the brain use that? My brain only reaches two of 8 devices because they sit in a cabinet, you'll have to have all your equipement in the open. How many people have that?

Even though I'm glad to have that kind of coverage from The Brain, but it seems excessive!

Wessel Otter It was important for us that NEEO is not another smart home product that will just work with a few specific sensors or so. The idea of being compatible with the real world, with the devices people already own was very important to us. This of course leads to quite a lot of infrared devices. The design also aimed to be easy to position with the 360° coverage. I'm happy it's in there and I feel for quite a while it will remain important for many users. PS: the numbers of actual emitters is lower. The number 80 refers to the light guides. These are actually optical guides that distribute the light into the right directions. (just a little bit like with a piece of fibreglass)
PS: For inside the cabinet you should use the extender. I love the level of integration that have reached with the IR design of the brain. - the fact that the brain outputs IR extremely well but it does not look like an IR device. Typically those blaster have this black-with-red-touch plastic and you see from distance that it is an IR device. What do you think about that aspect? Thanks

  • Big K nicely done! but aren't you blocking the 4 transmitters on the side?

  • Wessel Otter I believe the majority of people's homes still use IR over BT / IP and the change over will be a slow one. The cost associated with adding IR to the brain would be more than worth it to make their product forward and backward compatible. There are still many brand new electronics that still use IR.

And I don't believe I'm covering up any sensors but further testing will be done and the adjustments will be made.

  • Yes, it sometimes sounds like IR is depreciated, but then again, it is 2017 and almost all devices still have that in your homes. Also, a lot of devices that do allow being controlled over Bluetooth or over IP need to be turned on first to be online, that mostly happens over IR still. Another great thing about having that is that we can do "mixed drivers" in the future, for example waking up your device over IR and then controlling it over Bluetooth.

  • Big K Cool stuff going on here! I know what you mean, I have also seen a Phone Docking station I designed being sold as an STL file for downloading. I still do have a lot of things on Thingiverse though, about some I just don't care.

  • BTW Randy N needs a version for a vertical position for the NEEO Brain here 😉

  • Big K are you selling these anywhere yet? I would love to buy one of the wall mount units you have shown. That is exactly what I'm looking for in my setup. I'm in the US.

  • Hey sorry !!!

I had some big changes with work going on (good ones) and kinda disappeared !!

Let me see what I can do !! Everyone who needs one is in USA ? I’m in Canada but I’ll see if I can ship them from USA to reduce shipping costs

  • DM me your email and I’ll see what I can do !
